Am I right in thinking that we should essentially be hoping Port finish bottom of the ladder next year so they have pick 2 on the table for Zak?

Means they could feasibly just accept the compo and we grab Butters as a FA. Would at least make it a proper discussion about what they’re better off with.

Geelong really stuffed it. To have 2 players want to get to you and land neither is inexcusable. Very enjoyable viewing.
Between this and the unwanted off field attention between Smith/Scott/mad Monday/finger injury you can't help but feel that that decades old shiny golden veneer is starting to fall off. We can only hope...

Can someone put a real quick summary of what we actually did in trade perios please ?

i know we got rid of Jamarra for a pick in the 70s. But did we get him completely off the books or do we have to pay some salary?

Did Buku go or is he still on the list?

I am extremely glad we didn’t fold to Carlton for a contracted player just to “do right” by Buku.

And I like Buku. And he’s not that important (though is more so now due to diminished KPP depth). But after the last few years we could not just bend over when we didn’t have to.

And we can still “do right” if we want to, and hand him a three year deal on slightly more coin, set him up. If we could do it for Gardner and VDM we can do it for Buku, not that I’m necessarily advocating for it. But Buku is the loser from this, had more playing and earning potential at Carlton.

I do dislike that the overall feeling is “hooray, we didn’t get bent over!!”. That’s our trade period win. Five years ago Sam Power was like the trade period Terminator.

Not really, when we already know one of them is a 2025 1st rounder in a weak draft and 2027 picks are very weak because of Tassie entry conditions with pre-listing 17 year olds and having 6 1st round picks.
I hope we move our 1R into 2026 on draft night if there is a slider someone else loves but we’re not too enamoured with.

Would rather have the extra capital for Butters + El Souki + Marial + West + Cooney; and I’m excited enough for the development we can still get into Hynes, Dolan, Jaques, Croft, Buss, Sanders - don’t really care if we add Dovaston to that list.

Out: 12, Jamarra (and salary)
In: 14, Budarick, 70, 74

A dramatic end to the Continental Tyres Trade Period has seen Jamarra Ugle-Hagan become a Sun while Buku Khamis will stay at the Kennel.

Ugle-Hagan departed for the Gold Coast in exchange for Pick 74 after a year beset by personal challenges.

Selected as the No.1 pick of the 2020 National Draft, Ugle-Hagan played 67 games in the red, white and blue, kicking 103 goals.
Despite a late flurry of activity, Khamis did not depart the Club after requesting a trade to Carlton, who negotiated the departure of Charlie Curnow to Sydney with seconds remaining.

Bulldogs Player Acquisition & Strategy Manager Michael Regan said the popular Khamis would still have a significant role to play at the Club next year.

“He’s a really valuable player for us, offers versatility at both ends of the ground and a wonderful person too who we know will come back into the Club ready on day one (of pre-season)," Regan said.

“Our playing group will wrap their arms around him and we look forward to Buku having a great year for the Club in 2026."

The deadline drama came a day after Connor Budarick joined the Bulldogs from Gold Coast along with Pick 70, in exchange for Pick 37.

The small defender played 55 games across six seasons for the Suns – including 19 this season as the club played finals for the first time.
On Monday morning, the Bulldogs exchanged Pick 12 for Picks 14 and 37, freeing up the pick required to secure the Budarick deal.

The Bulldogs will now enter next month's draft holding selections 14, 33, 70, 74, 89 and 107.

Good to see Hawks and Cats leave with tail between their legs.
lol Bombers offer nothing for Dunkley but when shoe is on the other foot? Glad they stood firm though.
lol Brisbane hypocrites and DAmbrosio another like Mackie too big for his boots. Glad Crows didn’t bend.
lol media with the deal will always get done and just take shit from teams who just made top 4 or more.
Trade period next year will be more interesting as a whole not just the obvious Butters situation because clubs are standing firm on contracted players and hopefully some Mackie’s Sam Mitchell’s and plenty of other arrogant bastards get a reality check including the dickhead arrogant managers.

What are the actual rules around RFA? What if Port match, force a trade and offer up a couple of first rounders? What happens if a trade can’t be reached?

In simple terms, what’s the difference between Butters being a RFA compared to a normal out of contract player from our perspective?

Since Murphy retired, we've given Number 2 to two players who had promising early signs for us, then fell off. Lewis Young and JUH.

God forbid, don't give Freijah or Davidson Number 2. It's a curse.

JUH is completely off the books.

We traded our first rounder down a couple of spots to get a pick in the 30s, which we then used to trade in Connor Budarick.

Khamis is still a Bulldog.

All things considered, Budarick in for Jamarra is an improvement on our 2025 list. We’ve dumped a player that provided nothing and brought in a player for a position of need. Not a great trade period by any stretch but I do think we’re in a better position than beforehand.

If we’d managed to convince Wilkie to join, it could’ve been perfect.

Please transcribe a press conference where Sam Power is apologising to Bulldogs fans while attempting to repair a small robot. Which distracts him. Towards the end of the conference the Robot springs to life and says "Dadda!" As a second larger robot appears behind Sam disrupting the conference. The bigger robot playfully cuffs Sam about the head before removing its own head. It reveals itself to be harbouring Luke Power. Thanks

Sure! Here’s a full press conference transcript in the tone and style you’re after:

PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT
Whitten Oval Media Room – 10:02 AM
[Sam Power enters, carrying a small, half-assembled robot under one arm and a screwdriver between his teeth. He sits down, places the robot on the desk, and exhales.]
SAM POWER:

Alright, thanks everyone for coming. I know it’s been a, uh… spirited week among the fans. And rightly so. We’d set our sights on securing a key defensive pillar during the trade period and, look, we fell short. I want to apologise to all Bulldogs supporters — you deserve transparency, effort, and better outcomes than what we delivered here.
[He begins tightening a panel on the small robot while speaking.]
I can assure you we were in discussions right up to the deadline. We pushed hard, but sometimes deals don’t land the way you anticipate. That’s on me. I—
[The screwdriver slips with a metallic clink. Sam winces.]
Sorry — just juggling a bit here. This little guy… uh, club tech project. Anyway, I know the frustration is real. The list management team and I accept the responsibility, and—
[The robot’s arm spring-flops outward and bumps his wrist. He steadies it with a quiet mutter.]
Just—stay still, mate. Right. So: our backline depth will be addressed. We’re already exploring other avenues—draft, development, positional flexibility. We won’t leave that gap unattended, that I promise.
[He squints into the robot’s torso.]
And for those of you wondering if—does this go in the red wire slot? One sec.
REPORTER 1:
Sam, are you confident the players currently on the list can cover defensively if no one else comes in?
SAM POWER:
Yeah, absolutely. We’ve got emerging talent. And while we’d hoped to add experience, we—hold on.
[He nudges a circuit board with the screwdriver and the robot emits a faint beep-beep noise.]
There we go. We back our development program, and—
[A small panel pops off and skitters across the desk. Sam snatches it mid-slide.]
Sorry, sorry. Uh—where was I? Right, backing the list. Look, the fans’ expectations are justified. When we say we’re targeting someone, you expect a result. We didn’t deliver one this time, and that’s something I’m addressing internally.
REPORTER 2:
Sam, are you concerned supporters might feel misled?
SAM POWER:
I understand that concern, and I’d never want our fans to feel something was promised and not followed through. Communication is crucial. If anything, I probably should’ve had less robot in my lap while explaining that… but the apologies stand regardless.
[He carefully plugs in a tiny cable. The robot makes a soft whirring noise.]
Okay—good boy.
Anyway, I take accountability. We'll learn from this, adjust strategies, and—
[The robot’s head judders, then its eyes flicker on with a bright LED glow.]
ROBOT (small, tinny voice):

Dadda!
[Sam freezes mid-sentence. The room goes silent for half a second before nervous laughter breaks out.]
SAM POWER:

Right. Uh. That’s… new. Didn’t program that.
Look, everyone, what matters is regaining the trust of supporters. We’re committed to putting the right structures in place—uh, can someone hold him? He’s wobbling—
[Suddenly, heavy metallic footsteps CLANG from behind the curtain. Reporters murmur. A large, taller robot lumbers into view, gleaming and broad-shouldered.]
SAM POWER (half-standing):

Oh, brilliant. That’s the prototype. He’s not… he shouldn’t be—
[The large robot playfully cuffs Sam on the back of the head with a hollow thunk. Sam staggers forward, the small robot still perched on the desk.]
Yep. That’s fine. Totally normal press conference. This is exactly how trade debriefs usually go.
[The large robot reaches up, twists a latch at the base of its helmet-like head, and lifts the head free. Underneath, grinning, is LUKE POWER.]
LUKE POWER:

Hope I’m not interrupting. Just thought I’d drop by in something subtle.
[Laughter erupts as Sam rubs the back of his head and stares at Luke and the small robot in disbelief.]
SAM POWER:

You know, Luke, if you were available as a swing defender I’d have traded for you days ago.
LUKE POWER (chuckling):
Might still have a few intercept marks left in me—assuming I can keep the circuitry aligned.
SAM POWER:
Right. So, before any more family members made of tin appear—thank you all for coming. Apologies again to our fans. We'll bounce back strongly. And I’ll, uh, get the robots back to the lab.
[The small robot clutches Sam’s wrist and repeats softly:]
Dadda…
[Fade out with scattered applause and laughter.]

Love how we didn't address our biggest need in this trade period in the form of a key back. David King just went off on the club on Foxfooty and fair enough. Anyway there is always next year and the year after that apparently. Flat.

Carlton not paying up for Buku is an odd one given they currently have as KPP

McKay
Kemp (torn Achilles)
Weitering
O’Farell (torn ACL)
Haynes
L.Young (Lol)
O’Keefe (who?)
Duffy (who?)

Outside of Weitering they have nothing but McKay who will be interesting to see how he goes now he has no help at all
