Hey Guys,

Just a thought...

What would St.Kilda have to give up to get any of the following:

- Bowden
- Tivendale
- Hall

I realise these are three of your highly prized players, but all have struggled recently and I'm not sure what they would command. All have been mentioned frequently in trade banter on Big Footy, and I think Richo will be kept at Punt Rd for sure, while Torney is pretty much certain to head to SA.

Any players you'd like from us (apart from the obvious ones we won't give away...who I don't need to remind you about!) I'll certainly listen to.

Off the top of my head...frankly I have no idea how this will go down...Brett Moyle and pick #19 for Bowden? Depends how highly you rate Bowden - some seem to think he is a slow-developing messiah while others think he is a pretender who works for his team about half as hard as Richo. I'm not sure where I rate him, but put it this way - for Mike Sheahan to compare him with Nathan Brown (albeit last year) gives me horrific fits of laughter. Although Bowden has shown some real talent in past, and is still only 25 next year.

Have a great 2003 guys....I hope we can build up a serious 'public holiday' rivalry. I can't for the life of me understand why Richmond vs St.K on the Monday isn't being played at the 'G. If both teams were playing well, it could get upwards of 75,000. At 'Telstra Dome' we only get 50,000. Not good enough Wayne!

Hey everton .... seems your uk boys are struggling in the Premier League so far ... never mind - it always seems to be a three-horse race over that way.

Anyway, interesting post on your behalf.

I really rate Joel Bowden - he's undoubtedly in our best 5 players, though he's certainly got his critics. Like Richo, he suffers from the expectations of the very people who criticise him.

For a trade with the Saints for Joel, we'd be after Lenny Hayes.

Tivvers - probably a combination of Begley and a 4th round draft pick, or Beetham and a slightly higher draft pick.

Hall - somewhere in between the above two players. Maybe Hall and a low draft pick for Hayes, or Hall for Heath Black and a low pick.

As you can see, I really appreciate the way Lenny Hayes goes about his business ... he's got a bit of the Simon Black's and Rob Harvey's about him. It's also pretty obvious that our emphasis is on midfielders ....

Well done G-of-JJ, when you post these things to most club forums that spit at you, scowl and tell you that their list is absolutely perfect with no room for improvement!

If you rate Bowden, Hayes would seem about right, but Hayes will be a superstar, In all seriousness, Bowden + plus some serious picks, (but I don't want to say pick#3 because I might be shot at, even if I believe it!) would be in order, but only because Kevin Sheedy declared him to have "best hands since Greg Williams" ;). He's now an untouchable for us, but I can see your thought process. You'll get Kane Johnson however, he'll be a stellar player, not quite Hayes, but he'll love playing for the Tigers.

Tivindale - I'd prefer to trade Begley back to SA where he is being highly sought after. But Beethem and say, pick #35 or #51 and I'd be very happy. He was #9 in 1999, has huge potential, but I really doubt if he wants to play with St.Kilda. All Saints fans know that Beethem will be a star, but it won't be with us for some reason. A club like Richmond, who has some room for midfielders of his type, would be ideal because the kid just needs some senior experience. If we could squeeze Tivvers into our team, I'd like that, he'd be a nice addition to help ease the trauma of losing Burke (32), Thompson (29) and Harvey (31) in the next few years. Would have to contend with Moyle, Ball, Dal Santo, Black, Baker, Blake, Clarke, Davis and Voss for a midifield spot in the short term. Beethem and #51 for Tivindale?? If so, you've got a deal!

Hall - Ok, I don't rate him very highly. The best I could offer you is Jason Blake and either Daniel Wulf or pick #35. I know that doesn't conform to what most Tiger fans think of him, but he just goes missing when the Tigers need him most. Maybe Moyle in a straight swap, but Moyle is a ball magnet and I'd be dissapointed to lose him for a hot/cold tall. Would Beethem and Blake be satisfactory?

Now, I don't know much about Royce Vardy, but does anyone rate him? Chad Davis in a straight swap?

What are the futures of Pettifer, Rogers, Chaffey, Fiora? Untouchable?

Thanks for the intelligent response G-of-J-J! In terms of trade these days, they are virtually non-existant!

Your Tivendale suggestion, Begley plus 4th round pick I would say take no problem.

Regarding the Hall trade, I reckon you overrate his trade worth.

Regarding Tivendale, when can I get the papers signed ? :)

I dont think Tivers and Bowdo should be traded. Hall will be a superstar.

What about Vardy?

Would you trade him for Chad Davis, Jason Blake, Chris Oliver or Daniel Wulf?

Doesn't seem to have a great future at Punt Road, maybe needs a new home?

Which SANFL team is after Begley, because it doubt either the Crows or Power would be intereted?!

Quite a poor attempt at a joke.

Stephen Trigg mentioned his name in the AA last week as a player they'd look at trading for to offset the loss of Johnson. Similar style of players. Begley is slightly more conventional/not as gangly, but not as sharp in sight of goals. A bit shorter and lighter than KJ, but he is a few years younger and was recruited from the Double Blues, although has indicated a preference to stay in Victoria. Has suffered a horror run with injuries, but managed a very impressive latter half of 2002.

How much have you seen of Begley recently, Kane McGoodwin?

Perhaps Vardy might find his feet at another club but won't be much good to us. You can keep Wulf however I'm not sure about the other guys.

The Saints would be a difficult team to trade with just at the moment.

Reasons - they have a wealth of either :

1. "Second Club" guys - Hamill, Gehrig, Black, Voss, Lawrence, Milne, Capuano etc... and I'd be wary of the subsequent "Third Club" syndrome.

2. Late 20's-year-olds/30's - Thompson, Harvey, Everitt etc... who are nearly past their expiry date or have terrible recent histories with injury.

3. Lots of highly-rated youngsters considered to be the future of the club - Reiwoldt, Koscitsche(??), Ball, Del Santo, Clarke etc... who SHOULD be untouchable ... not to mention another one in November courtesy of Pick No. 3.

And that's about it, except for a few of the names I've already bandied around - Begley, Beetham, Hayes et.al.

As I said, a hard team to trade with presently .... but still worth talking to on October 24th ...

Everton ... I also share the opinion of a few of the other Tiger fans here that Bowdo and Tivvers are virtual untouchables (especially Joel). As for Razor - big, young, athletic guys who can kick, run, mark and take up either the ruck or a key defensive roles are as rare as hen's knackers. He's always going to have a greater currency than a little bloke ... Therefore whatever opposition supporters think he's worth - go up one !!!

id be more than happy with a bowden hayes swap.

cheers!

Moyle for Bowdo is a fair insult ....when comparing players I like to use independant assessments rather than promote a bias warped by years of watching the same team ...

Bowden has featured quite prominently over the years in media awards ...leading one to suggest he is an influential player ..

To propose a swap for an unobtrusive saint would warrant a revolution
