Ash & his GF Courtney moved back to Victoria. Turned down a few offers to play in the VFL and signed with Berwick in the South East F.L. Still there today. (top of the ladder this year)
Pick 36 Ash Smith
39. Steven Motlop
44. Rory Sloane
;)
Shit
Shit
Sloane  I love SloaneDog. More heart than half our side.

just had another look at that draft. we could have legit picked ballentyne or zaharakis instead of swift, had motlop or sloane ahead of smith and had walters over jones. If we nailed our last three picks, we could be in premiership mode. we would have our biggest weakness fixed in the lack of quality inside mids and crumbing small forward.

Oh god no

Faaark. You would have thought we could have nailed one of those?

Were our recruiters no good? Is is possible they get conned about certain recruits?

still better than swift and at his best he was not far off a betts.

At his best yes he was good, he's past his best now though. Plus he's also a colossal w***er.

Recruiting is not an exact science, every club has what if stories.

to be fair they did nail the first two picks with NN and shuey. even if we nabbed one of those players we would have had a great draft. At the end of the day we pick an Elite ruckmen and a guy not too far off being an elite mid ( tho i dont believe he will reach it).

Thats true but still i would still have him

Funnily, thats our best draft from 2007 -2009 and probably the second best draft since judd left to now.

Unfortunately they don't measure heart string muscles at the Combine otherwise he would have had a "red flag' against his name. .

He moved like Clarke Kent....... sadly he played like Louis Lane.

Bit harsh on Lois. She always played hard.

Just goes to show what a difference a bit of luck makes. Geelong had a draft in the early 2000s that basically set up a dynasty

This one for us in 2008 would have absolutely set us up, even if we still bombed out with Swift (I'm glad we didn't get Ballantyne) but took Walters and Sloane over Jones and Smith.

But basically every club would have a similar story. It's all a lottery

Sloane has more heart than 99% of the competition I rekon, kid plays out of his skin every time would love him in the team!
He's my wifes favourite player. He's also the only chance I have left of scoring a 3way.

You can look back at every draft and do that, there is no point in dwelling on it, there have been gems that we have unearthed late in drafts that other clubs fans would be lamenting that they missed. So it goes both ways.

Picking at Geelongs scraps to take Liam Bedford in the rookie draft over Jeff Garlett tops off that draft.
We need to stop going after other sides recycled shit with our rookie picks. Plenty of very good small forwards have been taken with rookie picks

Might be tough to get it done considering he signed a three year deal in September.
In the doghouse with Eade, throw our 1st at them. Given Eade likely views him as a distraction / hangover from GC party crew I'd say there could be an amicable split in the works.

He's in the doghouse because he's not sticking to the team plan or doing what's asked from him. Given that's the reason Bennell has been dropped by us in the past i'm not sure Hall would be able to get away with it either.

Bennell is also just a bit shit

How is he not sticking to the team plan? anyway, that's beside the point, which is that the friction caused creates an opportunity for us to come knockin' and perhaps entice a trade. Not sure how else we add a stud mid.

I think from what I read it was that he wasn't adhering to the team defensive structures and was just purely trying to be offensive. I don't see that type of play going down well with Simmo if he did the same thing (see Bennell).

The only thing with this is rocket has history of getting offside with certain players and once it happens it's very hard to get back on his good side. For my mind he is easily the most targetable player for us. No home state advantage/disadvantage, already travelling every second week. Offer him some good money and it covers at least one of our weaknesses going forwards.
