I think Mark Seaby is one player we should try and get to Carlton next year. He's still young (about 22) and can play, and seeing as Cox, and if he manages to play well, Gardiner are ahead of him, he might be one player to look at. We are very short on rucks at the moment, with French having a bad season and likely to retire within a season or 2, and seeing as Deluca isn't really a ruckman, and Bryan is out of favour, we need a replacement. From what I've heard, Batson isn't good enough, and if Aisake does make it, it'll probably be atleast 3-4 years before he'll play good footy. I reckon we should draft a ruckman with our 2nd pick in the draft, but even so, they'll still take time to be able to ruck regularly at AFL level which is why I believe that an experienced young ruckman with talent, is essential for the Blues. Not sure what we would need to trade for him though. What do you guys think about this?

You need 4-5 ruckmen on your list as insurance; besides Gardiner and Cox they won't really have anyone

When will we draft a rookie ruckman in the National Draft?

It's been too long since we picked up a ruck and are PREPARED to invest the TIME needed to develop the ruckmen. Most won't reach their peak for 4-6 years from when they are drafted

Surely we need to do this instead of going for short gaps and wasting the #1 PSD pick on a 'ruckman' 195cm tall

it would have to a player trade. wouldn't be giving up good draft picks for seaby. i agree on your assessment of french. he is finished imo.

If we got a priority pick at 18 overall, I would consider trading that for Seaby because in all likelyhood Leuenberger and Renouf will be gone by then. Hampson is solid but the rest of them are undersized and you have to rely on them growing.

That would leave us with 2, 20, 36, 52, 68 and 84. Also Pick 2 in the PSD.

If you're talking about trading a pick without the priority, then obviously that's not an option.

To think that I thought Carlton would of learnt its lesson on recycled players
i.e Clarke, Mott, Harford, Morrell, Johnson, Eccles, Smith L, Gallagher & maybe Longmuir & Chambers to name just a few.

Get in a couple of kids, persist with the current ruck stock until these boys are ready, but Seaby really if he played cricket Warnie would say...........

Andrejs everitt. If we somehow snagged him, we could spend a few years getting him built up to the appropriate level. im not sure why i like the look of this bloke, i just have a feeling we'll be seeing alot more of him in the future. Id rather him be on our side when that time comes.

That's too risky in my book. We can't afford to be speculating and hoping that Everitt grows enough to be a Ruckman. Waste of a pick when we also been Key Defender and quick midfielders.

We got burnt years back drafting the likes of Vance & Massie hoping that they would grow to become Key Defender size........look who that turned out.

I'm totally against trading away any draft picks this year. Whilst I agree that we desperately need a First Ruck to replace French, I think a better option would be to persuade the likes of Meeson, F.De Luca, Maric or Wood to come to us for nothing via the pre-season draft. The lure being game time and being our number 1 ruckman. They also suit our profile of all being young up ans coming players.

I can't see Essendon taking them before us, as they have made it perfectly clear that they are targeting a top notch player. They also already have Hille, Laycock, Ryder and Bradley as young Ruck prospects.

massie is now a regular and a fine contributor in the most dominant team in the competition.

I understand that K, but he aint playing CHB, and he certainly aint playing CHB for Carlton like they hoped he would...........hence my point on drafting Everitt with the HOPE he'll grow into Ruckman size would be a mistake.

Am of the opinion that it is sh*t or bust with a ruckman trade.

At the moment there are not that many outstanding bigmen.

If they are prepared to trade, then get the best.
Go for Cox, simple as that.

Read somewhere else someone suggested Setanta in the middle,
which at this stage is not a bad idea.

I remember Jim Stynes early,
no idea in the centre,
but he ran like a deer all over the ground.
He turned out ok.

i agree with everything you're saying. to me everitt is well off growing into a 200cm ruckman and if we were giving away a first or second round pick on him in the hope that he would grow into one would be a huge mistake.

No way in the world would I trade pick 18 for Seaby, lets hope either of the 2 above ruckmen are available at that pick.

If not lets try & get a young ruckmen in pre-season draft from another club as suggested by WTTF.

In all likelyhood we may finish bottom 4 next year & can pick a ruckmen with
1st pick, wasn't there a kid for vic metro who starred in the ruck but is not eligible this year.

If we recieved a priority pick at the end of the 1st round and used it on Seaby the recruitment department should be shot. The guy is average at best, he is not the answer for our ruck department. We should be concentrating on new younger talent.
My ideal scenario is to use the PP (if we qualify) on the best availible Mid and then our 2nd round pick on a quality young ruck. We should try and use the PSD to try and snare Fabian Deluca or trade our third round pick and possibly a player for a ruck.
