Trade hypotheticals

Personally I think Mitchell stays and you lose someone else (Parker, Hannabery, Smith) or the like

None of those three within the next two years. They've all re-signed within the past 12 months and are on contract until at least the end of 2016. Who knows what the squad situation will look like by then.

Sydney would punt Mitchell in a second before getting rid of any of those 3

Something will need to give here then.
Cap pressure and game time will demand one of those 4 goes.

What's to say (hypothetical) all clubs refuse to give a 1st for Tom.

How long is it before the club asks how much is it really worth to keep them.

Regardless of what he is worth as a player. It is possible it is detrimental to the club to keep him on the list an may settle for an early 2nd.

And at the risk of now upsetting Crow supporters too.

IF Danger was to go this year and nominated Hawthorn as his destination...

Would you think our 1st, Birchall and Grimley/Lowden/Hallahan would get it done?

A club will offer their first, more than likely Melbourne (Frawley comp), with a sweetener going Melbourne's way. Sydney would consider it. That would be a little overs from Melbourne but he is contracted. All those 3 you have mentioned are basically AA players. Clubs don't get rid of AA players, they get rid of depth if the need be. Players will accept a little under to be successful, Hawthorn have done it, Geelong have done it.

Pretty much my point. To retain the balance of this year. They may need to accept unders.

You are not trading out Grant Birchall for one, doubt Clarkson would be that keen on it. Perhaps package your 2nd with Suckling for example (just an example). Get another 1st rounder. Two first rounders for Danger would be the going rate.

They will accept a fraction under this year. However Mitchell might go, Goodes (ret.) if they win, Shaw (ret.) if they win, O'Keefe, LRT. That is a fair wad of cash going out. They will be well and truely under.

Gotta give quality to get quality.
Bundling lower grade players/picks ain't gonna do it.

Whitecross will be back with vengeance next season and I can see him being a perfect fit to come
Off the opposite flank to Suckers

Goodes and Rok will have been on the veterans... Do you really think there is more than 300k between those 3? 500 maybe but I think buddy will chew that up quick smart.

You can also go Suckling + your 2nd for a mid first rounder and keep your elite HBF in Birchall! That makes a heck of a lot more sense. Either way why not wait till 2016 when he is a FA!

Easily, they would be on more than you think. Shaw was recruited and re-signed during the period. LRT's contract was after the GF, would have been upped in value. O'Keefe and Goodes are not on a packet of chips. They would conservatively have around 700K between them. That is a pretty conservative figure.

Ok... But Goodrs and likely LRT will have HALF their salary paid outside the cap under the veterans rules.

Yes lets say they are on 500-600 K (meaning 300K is counted). The others would have 400K minumum between them. Very conservative estimate. That is assuming Shaw retires, if not could be in the 600-650K area.

To save OUR cap space. He'd cost us plenty less $$$ this year and we'd back ourselves in to fill Birch's position with any number of classy young kids.

Good luck, doubt Clarkson would agree on trading out your best HBF. As good as Dangerfield is, get him next year under FA.

Sydney aren't just going to have wads of cash due to a few retirees. That's how they give Franklin $10 million - by planning for these exits

Surely if they manage to get their hands on a big name player a salary cap audit is in order.
