Trade hypotheticals

Lowden will most likely go for a second round pick-he's quite popular at Hawthorn and we'd be keen to keep him. The question is, will Essendon be up for trading their second round pick?

Maybe if there's a player at Essendon who's fast but good at stoppages but isn't getting an opportunity I could see Lowden+low pick -->Player+low pick.

Would love pick 16 :3 But the chances of that happening are about as big as Joel Selwood announcing himself a Hawthorn supporter

Ess don't have a 2nd round pick do they? Unless you are talking about there end of round 1 which is there only pick atm and would be nearly untradeable.

They are going to win any trade with Ryder. Sooner you realise this the better you will feel when we get reamed.
No they won't. All the speculation from the people who matter is that Essendon will only trade him when fairly compensated.

A slight twist.

Essendon lose- Ryder & Pick 50
Essendon gain- Pick 16 & 35 Lowden.

Port lose- Pick 16 & 35
Port gain- Ryder

Hawthorn lose- Lowden
Hawthorn gain- Pick 50

Just because Hawthorn are the premiers doesn't mean we are a charity......
We are typically very good when it comes to getting players where they want to go, and dont ask the world for our fringe players.....see exhibits A and B.....Kennedy and McGlynn

Lowden will be a very capable ruckman, and if he lands at your club I have no doubt he will win you over.

But if the typical Essendon mentality of win at all costs applies, then I suggrst your club is free to try the draft or take Angus Graham as a delisted FA.

Lowden will be better than anything you will get in the draft at 50 or via DFA, so I would think you will need somewhat more than that.

If it were me, I just wouldn't deal with Essendon.....at all....period.

I'm happy for Lowden to go elsewhere if he can get a regular game; it's a shame to watch him rot in the VFL.

Collingwood should be very keen on him, they've been after a decent ruck/forward for a while now.

Lowden is talented, but he's played 1 game in 6 years. He's not worth more than pick 50.

Lowden is uncontracted, he will get to his preferred destination for about a 3rd or 4th rounder simple as that.

We will wait for him to select his preferred destination.

I guess we will see, but I really hope we keep him, and if he does go, it is not to Essendon.

1 game in 6 years doesn't reflect the development of a ruckman. You would get a ready made ruckman. The only reason he is not playing is because he is behind Hale, Ceglar and McEvoy.
Previous years he was either still developing, or got injured at the wrong time. And until this year, Ckarko hasn't exactly been keen to give the young guys a chance.

Put it this way, he is a much better option than Renouf who was traded to Port a couple of years ago for pick 33.

I am not suggesting Lowden is worth more than 33, but that 50 might be a bit thin.

Boy oh boy I hope he doesn't go to Essendon.

If Lowden's after opportunity Essendon would be a good fit for him.
-Vacant 2nd ruck position .
-Not a lot of depth in KPF stocks (If Carlisle or Daniher get injured he could get a game as a KPF)

Not to mention T-bell coming off an injury interrupted season which opens up the chance for the 1st ruck position.

No they won't. All the speculation from the people who matter is that Essendon will only trade him when fairly compensated.

The element that still hasn't played out is if Ryder tests the new rule which allows him to walk.

He won't want to do that, and neither club would too, but he seems pretty set on leaving, and unfortunately for Essendon the current situation means they don't have the bargaining power they really should for a player of his quality.

How essendon's next week plays out could have a big role in if Ryder gets traded in a value deal or a steal deal.

OK lets play again, i'll brace myself for responses.

Bris gain - Beams, Norths 3rd (53)
Pies gain - 4, Greenwood
North gain - Bris 2nd (24), Merrett

ok rip away :)

Because I love the vitriol that Melbourne fans deliver when offering up potential trades for it's draft picks why not throw up another one.

Let's say the demons do end up with pick 2 and 3.

Offer to send both pick 2 and 3 to GWS. In return Melbourne receive Jeremy Cameron, Jono O'Rourke and Kristian Jansck (or another player they like).

Would mean Saints have pick 1 and GWS 2 & 3.

GWS could find a player on their list to offer the Saints for a swap of pick 1 and pick 2. If Melbourne looked at someone else instead of Jansck, then GWS could package him and pick 2 up for the saints number 1.

Melbourne could even look at throwing Frost into a the first three players to save a pick later in the draft.
Picks 2 and 3 probably wouldn't get Cameron alone.

No, he doesn't, so much so that he and his manager have stated that he'll only go if Essendon a fairly compensated and if a deal doesn't get worked out he'll stay at Essendon.

No, it's about what clubs want and they need. Trading is about getting the best deal you want-admittedly, 2nd rounder may be too much for him. But he has impressive VFL stats, an impressive AFL debut against considerable opposition, is of a young age and is 204cm and 102kg. Come on-if Hawthorn needed a ruckman like Lowden I could easily see other clubs wanting a second round pick from us on his potential, or an early third.

If he went to a club like Port Adelaide or West Coast he'd go for peanuts, a 5th of 6th pick because they no longer need a fourth string ruckman. Adelaide and Essendon (the latter I don't really know about) need a ruckman to fully implement their structures, which means if they are interested in Lowden-who has all the attributes- Hawthorn can overcharge.

He is uncontracted, and wants to look for opportunities elsewhere.

He originally selected Port Adelaide (from reports) but with Ryder, Lobbe and Gorringe arriving there he'd find himself in exactly the same position he is at Hawthorn. He hasn't selected a preferred club afterwards yet, but is keen to "explore his options". Some reports say Adelaide have been sniffing around a few of our players, but I can't confirm anything.

Jordan Schroeder won 2013 Liston and VFL BnF for Geelong in 2014. Could not get game in the seniors. We delisted him. Sadly VFL impressive stats mean shit in the AFL trade world.

You know that seems pretty close to me. Some might argue that the Lions need another late pick from the Pies. 4th round?

Stanley has done bugger all, the odd glimpse but for a bloke who debuted 4 or 5 years ago really hasn;t offered much.
Hickey could be good but only shown a small sample and Longer has also done not much.

And what exactly has lowden done to make you believe he could be better than the players we already have? He has played one game in 6 years in a side that hasn't had very impressive ruckman. He is worth virtually nothing on the open market especially to the saints who have 3 ruckman already better than him who are the same age, and 2 extra ruckman developing nicely in the vfl.

How many of your ruckman average 3 goals a game? Or matched it with Nic Nat and Cox? He'd be very close to the #1 ruckman at St Kilda or at least it would be a genuine battle between him and Hickey. Longer may be the best long term ruck prospect though.

I find it unlikely Lowden would average 3 goals a game over a 22 game long period.

You aren't really arguing that because he scored 3 goals that's his 'average' are you. That's your problem
