Scully laughed all the way to the bank.

Everthing was set up perfect for him. The timing he was drafted, the rules at the time, when his first contract expired. A unproven player of his talent should never have got the contract he did. There was no way he could say no to it. He essentially won the lotto.

For this reason i would not offer Boyd a mega deal like $800k+ per season for 5 years.

No unproven player should ever get this amount. Only proven guns.

Also, once a young player has secured such a hefty contract and has long-term security, it isnt that uncommon for them to not push themselves to the limit...i mean theyre set up for life and have just got things given to them without having done anything at AFL level.
Certainly is a theory with English soccer players...they get absurd amounts of money (way more than AFL players obviously) before they are even 21 years old and many dont become the player they were expected to be, one factor being they lose that absolute hunger to be the best

am I missing something here?

with Griffen a FA next year and able to walk to GWS at no cost to them and at best a pick sixish for the Dogs, surely the whip is in the Giantsl hand?

And now that Boyd is openly wanting out, playing him all year in the firsts and getting a bidding war between the Vic clubs at then end of next season would get GWS the best result? He is obviously not fussy about where he goes.

Can't see what the Dogs have backing up their tough talk right now.

brilliant film... so many quotable lines.

BTW you didn't even need the jpg... you coulda just gone medieval.

Went with some older workmates to see it at the cinema when I was 15.

Didn't I just think I was the baddest bloke getting around??

I just don't get GWS' line of thinking...

They are offering: Jaksch, Whiley + 19 for Pick 7

They are suggesting the difference in jump of picks from 28 to 7 is worth 19 and Whiley....I don't even know which deal I prefer though.

Nah. They want close to #12 for Jaksch. Would concede 14-16ish.

They are therefore suggesting #19 and Whiley is worth the difference between Jaksch's value (#12-16) and #7. #28 was well unders.

If Carlton manufactured #16 from somewhere, the deal is done IMO.

Carlton would trade #7 for #16 and a pick around #12-13 IMO. Would they then trade that pick for #19 and Whiley? Maybe ...

anything happen yet?

Okay, quick summary.....

Kristian Boyd has asked for a trade and we are still waiting on the Tom Jaksch deal. It appears that Ryan Beams is on the move and Collingwood and Brisbane are still working on the Dayne Griffin deal. The resst gets pretty confusing so I will leave it at that! :)

Absolutely right. Boyd's value will be a lot bigger next year and the Giants actually need him next year.

The only issue is whether Boyd would be upset about not getting traded this year and screw the Giants in the PSD. Dogs would have to finish last though.
