ive highlighted anything that we MIGHT at the very very slightest consider.
the unhighlighted ones are stupid that we shouldnt even think about.

Cupido would go alright at Melbourne.

He'd allow us to have another avenue to goal now that Vardy looks likely to be delisted.

Wouldn't mind any of those players (bar Whitnall and M Johnson)

I definitely would like to see us go after Stuart Dew. His left foot could be a lethal weapon for us across half forward.

We badly need to address the situation at fullback.

This is how I'd rank our targets:

1st preferance - Mal Michael - exactly what we need at fullback. Would almost guarantee us a flag if we got him. Would give Brisbane Clint Bizzell and pick 13 to secure his services.

2nd preference - Jon Hay - much maligned but would work wonders with a change of scenery IMO. Won't get a game at Freo or West Coast due to Haddrill and Glass so may as well come to another club destined for success. Depending on the Bruce situation could possibly give Hawthorn Cam Bruce for Hay and Mark Williams (possibly throwing in Lamb if need be) or giving Hawthorn pick13 for Mr Hay. I would not like to lose Bruce so would probably overlook the deal involving him.

3rd preference - Robert Haddrill - a quiet achiever who does not get the accolades of higher profile defenders Graham Polak and Luke McPharlin but is a fine fullback. Beat many gun full forwards this season to further enhance his reputation as a ever reliable fullback. Would give Freo Armstrong and our 2nd round pick for his services or could be involved in a complicated 3 way deal starting with Josh Carr to Freo, Scott Thompson to Port and Haddrill to the Dees.

4th preference - Shannon Watt - may not have the profile of other fullbacks mentioned but has all the tools for some rapid improvement after a change of scenery. Would be a much better option than Nicho as he has some legspeed, coordination and basic football knowledge. Gets towelled up regularly by Matty Lloyd but that wouldn't be a concern as next season and beyond we can play Rivers on Lloyd. In order to obtain Watt I believe we would have to give up Daniel Ward and Chris Lamb or seeing the Roos are keen on Jolly we could possibly get Watt and Harding for Jolly.

5th preference - Simon Prestigiacomo - as dour as they come, Presti has appeared to have fallen out of favour at Eddie Headquarters much to my surprise. Although he is the statisticans best friend he is a very relaible defender who managed to keep his reputation intact after the back to back Grand Final losses against Brisbane. Wouldn't cost a great deal, especially since Magpies are keen to offload him. I could see Jolly going to the Pies in return for the man they call Presti.

I am very confident that the Melbourne Football Club will end up with one of these 5 fullbacks at the end of what should be a successfull trade period.

With Scott Thompson wanting out possible deals could be :

Steven Salopek to Melbourne - Scott Thompson to Port Adelaide

Brent Reilly and Matthew Bode or 2nd round pick to Melbourne - Scott Thompson to Adelaide.

Melbourne > Robert Haddrill
Port > Scott Thompson,
Freo > Josh Carr
(we might have to add a 2nd rounder)

Melbourne > Steven Salopek, Troy Chaplin
Port > Scott Thompson, Daniel Ward
Freo > Josh Carr

Chris Heffernan is another player who could be sacrificed with a return to Essendon a possibility. Something like this could occur:

Damien Cupido to Melbourne - Chris Heffernan to Essendon
Ted Richards and a 2nd rounder to Melbourne - Chris Heffernan to Essendon

Cheers

i would never give Ted Richards for Heffernan let alone a 2nd rounder on top of that youve gotta be dreaming.

Sadly for you you're not Kevin Sheedy or Adrian Dodoro.

Melbourne > Robert Haddrill
Port > Scott Thompson,
Freo > Josh Carr
(we might have to add a 2nd rounder)

Sounds good to me.

Brisbane won't let go of Michael. Hay could be alright but he'd cost us a bit. Id think about giving them pick 13, no more.

Ive only seen bits and pieces of Haddrill.

I rate Prestigiacomo but he is just Nicholson again. There isnt room for both of them on the list.

Nicholson > Shannon Watt.

How about Daniel Bradshaw? He can play beside Nietz as the 3rd tall and fill in at FB/CHB if we need him. I'd give up Robertson/Heffernan/McDonald, possibly pick 13 or Clint Bizzell.

Another one is Matt Maguire. Not a full back as such but unlike Haddrill and Watt he is guaranteed to be a player. We could use him at CHB and push Rivers back to FB or even use them both accross the half back line. Id be willing to offer plenty.

Other than that I think we should be looking to the draft for full backs or to Ryan Ferguson or Luke Molan. Most of the FB's around at the moment are either ordinary or too expensive or both.

bradshaw is needed more then ever at brisbane with lynch gone

we should realli go after michael and if we cant get him, hadrill

dont want watt or presti and if we get hay it better be cheap

i doubt we'll get maquire and if we do he can be the man on man CHB with rivers floating doing a cornes like role and fergy at FB with bizz
