Similar post to other boards with teams out of contention. Who, if any, players are we going to look at to trade or draft from other clubs.

If we get a pp it will be worth significantly more this year with draft concessions in 2010 and a shallower draft pool. If not would we look at putting a 2nd round pick on the table? First round off limits.

We need a young KPP. Bower has been rumoured to upset with his contract (2nd would be requested or push him into PSD); Thorpe will struggle at the Hawks to move into the fwd line; Melbourne have a number of young talls; may be even Rance (not sure if he signed an extension to his 2yr agreement); Gumbleton would be interesting, as the Dons have put a lot into him with limited return.

Small fwds/mids Jetta at Essendon would be ok may be J-Mac at West Coast? who else.

NO trading for players. We're going to have pick 2 or 3 in the PSD, so if there's anyone half decent that might be available (Bower for example), then look at doing what Port did with The Dirty Traitor, and just not trade for them and pick them up in the PSD.

If we do any trading we trade players for picks, but certainly not the other way around.

Oh, and JMac is a hack - good WAFL player, below average AFL player.

Alright then. Lets look at it from a PSD draft point of view.
Is there anyone out there that we want? Remember, with our space in the cap offer someone a decent contract.

I would get into the ear of:
Paul Bower
Simon Buckley
Ryan Gamble

I wouldn't completely rule out any trading. First up, I agree with everyone's general sentiments, but we still have to see what is out there. Even if it means to pretend to be interested in a trade, get someone upset they are being shopped around, then look at the PSD or offer Pick 82.

Bower or Jetta in the PSD, preferably Bower.

Might be another reason why finishing lower on the ladder could prove beneficial. If we are going to finish so low, we might as well milk it for all its worth.

It would be silly to knock back a deal involving our 3rd rounder and a player who would be best 22 in 2010 and beyond simply because we've been shafted during previous trade weeks.

Surely Gumbleton is worth a crack...We're not going to turn our fortunes around in two drafts and our list lets face it is in trouble KPP wise.

If we get a priority pick, I'd trade our 3rd round and a player or even 2nd round for Gumbleton (Naturally after our medico's have checked him out).

Williams for Hawthorn?

The fact we have failed in the trade game in the past is certainly no reason to toally throw in the towel.

First pick is off the table, but lets not forget the GC will ruin the draft the following year.

I can't see why a developing team would trade for anyone at all. The club seems pretty set on bringing new players at the club. I can imagine a reasonably big turn over at the seasons end again.

We need KPP's and if this draft is all mid's then we are going to need a plan B. The way its looking is there's a number of the KPP's are not rated in the top 16 (at this stage of the year) so we may be in luck and get someone half decent in the 2nd round/pp if we get one.

I suspect we will only draft 4 players this year so that has us potentially leaving the draft in the 3-4th round.

Draft another gun mid (Trengove>Morabito>Lucas), get hold of a key back, especially look at Bower (trade/PSD] and a key fwd (draft in 2nd round or pp) then we are shaping up well with the 09 draft (mids, small fwds and a funny looking ruckman). This means we could look at another mid or back in the start of the 2/3rdth round.

Is Jetta that bad... 3rnd pick...4th...swap for Murphy and a pack of cheese twisties

We do need another tall forward. We cant rely on Murphy or Campbell going forward. Mayne when fit will be one, but im not sure he'll be a complete forward - atm he is a good lead up player.

Gumbleton is worth a crack or maybe a 20/21 yr old who is kicking a fair few goals at WAFL or VFL level. Also as mentioned would be forwards who aren't getting a fair go at their current club.

I don't mind if we trade players for picks but defiantly not the other way around. Hopefully we get the priority pick it should help us a lot I think we really need a KPP forward Panos or Butcher maybe depends though cause the mids are really good this year Trengove, Lucas and Morabito a very tempting with our first. The only player I would be intrested in trading for would be Gumbleton but I highly doubt Essendon would trade him for a second rounder.

I understand the apprehension to trading, and I am that way inclined myself, but it is based largely on trades which were obviously wrong in the first place ... involving us paying big for senior/older players.

There is no harm at least looking at the younger players out there. I would bet we would find it very, very difficult to draft better prospects than Bower and Gumbleton. I firmly believe the latter would have well and truly established himself as a gun if not for injuries. Though Essendon probably feel the same, so I doubt they'd let him go ...

If you want to target teams, the easiest to trade with is always the teams with the new coach. North Melbourne and Richmond become easy targets. Im guessing 1 or 2 more coaches may be shifted around by years end.

Gumbleton won't come cheap. He definitely won't be released through the PSD. I think taking a key forward away from Essendon might prove very difficult.

If we can lure Bower across from Carlton i wouldn't mind having him at Fremantle. Seems a decent tall defender. Though i woulnd't want to trade draft picks. A big contract followed by the threat of PSD might see us nab him for a 3rd rounder. Personally i wouldn't trade away picks. Prefer to do player for player.

I think David Hale is being severely underutilized at North Melbourne. The guy is an A grade ruckman being made to look like a B grade forward. If we were to bring him across both Hale and Sandi could provide tall options up forward intermittently while not in the ruck. Obviously Hale could play more forward than ruck and Sandi more ruck than forward. It would make our ruck division the most potent in the land. North would look at an option like Crowley/Mundy straight swap for Hale. They desperately need midfielders.

Richmond fans keep popping up with Foley's name in trade discussions. They see him as the expendible midfielder from their up and comers. Personally i think its just the fans talking, but would certainly be worth an enquiry.

Similarly someone like Daniel Wells would be worth a look into. A new coach at North may see him as expendible. At Subiaco, his skills, pace and endurance would be great. He definitely wouldn't come cheap. Im not sure i'd be willing to pay the asking price.

Rance from Richmond also seems a good player, though i think his price would be inflated from the publicity regarding his 'courage'. In saying that, he looks like developing into a very good key defender.

I'd also be whispering in Chris Yarran's ear. That kid has got skills and talents not yet seen. He would have prospered had he stayed in WA. I'd sneekily be offering a 2nd rounder to Carlton to see if they bite. With the problems they've had getting the kid to perform, they may cut their losses and trade him home.

After that big rant, i'd prefer we keep our picks and not trade at all.

Don't trade in, perhaps trade out.

Don't dangle large contracts for ordinary players.

If somone wants to come home or over for opportunity ....offer them a home via the PSD but nothing else.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Do not trade any picks unless its like 3rd or 4th round.
Our drafters/coaches have generally done a pretty good job with the guys they pick up problem is they have never had many picks to use in the past due to fools giving them all away in stupid trades.

Jetta wow he can run fast big deal.
not a big possesion getter not a wonderful user of it.

We tell guys like Bower etc we waould love him in the team, if he wants to come home and hes had a look at us, he can see we have drafted pretty well an look to have a good group of players coming along nicely, and if all goes well we will be contenders from 2011 onwards.
Cant afford to use draft picks in last draft in trades but you would be an integral part of our team.
Since there screwing you heres an opportunity to get some payback.
Nominate for PSD tell them unhappy desperate to go home an we grab u with our 1st pick.

haha never gonna happen but would be great.

Unless we trade our own players an somehow get alot of 2nd an 3rd round pick then we can use them as trades for players

As for Yarran just wait till he comes out of contract next year an then see if we can snag him cheaply or for nothing.

Someones gotta get carlton back for all the shady deals they have done lately so might aswell be us :P

Why would bower leave a midfield with Judd, Murphy and Gibbs?

There is no trade out there beneficial enough for us to consider...

If we could get Gumbleton at a 2nd round we would, but thats no chance at all..

I wouldnt trade for Bower..

Jetta is not an average footballer. If it was possible to pick him up in the PSD that would be amazing

I wouldn't want us to trade our 2nd or 3rd round picks unless we got a PP - which I don't think will happen.

Too many question marks on Gumby for the price that Essendon would want to part with him.

Bower - it's very easy to say we'll take a WA boy through the PSD but it's very unlikely to happen.

Hale - nup. I'd rather Mundy and Crowley. Teams without a quality ruckman would offer North more if they were prepared to trade him.

Foley would be a good get but Richmond are in a similar position to what we were in last year. They have a lot of chaff to sort through in the next two years and he's a quality player in that age bracket they'd like to hold on to.

Wells - no thanks. They'd want a 1st rounder for him anyway.

Rance - yep. For the right price.

Williams - no thanks. Maybe if he was a couple of years younger but we just drafted players similar to him.

Buckley - maybe. I'd prefer we kept our picks though.

Jetta - nah. We've got Son-son.

Simon Hogan from Geelong was mentioned in an earlier thread. He'd be a good pick up but I don't know if Geelong would be willing to let him go.

I'm prepared to back the club in through the draft.
