There is going to be allot of talk about trading this coming few weeks, so lets keep it in the same thread so we can make comparisons.
Firstly the biggest story is Longmuir being traded to carlton for 2nd/1st pick
Thoughts?
My opinion is that though its worth it, I would prefer to keep longmuir he can play all over the ground and frankly Pavlich showed loyalty to Freo so freo should show loyalty to longmuir. Were making head way in keeping our stars we shouldnt begin trading them away.
Secondly is what we do with these picks
Do we take Wells or do we take Headland?
Headland for me, hard goal scoaring midfielder, he has a penetrating kick and would be ideal for the dockers.
Thirdly The futures of Brown,McPhee,Shipp etc?
Finally who else do we target, the lesser likes that could help our cause.

I think our main tradable players would be:
Shipp - Plays bloody well in the WAFL, but seems to be out of favour.
Toia - I don't think any other club would be interested.
Walker - Good trade prospect, his disposal just isn't up to scratch though.
T.Lo - I would like to keep him, if he goes anywhere it'll be it WC.
McPhee - Good prospect, but a few players like koops and woods are ahead of him.
Brown - I think we should let him develop further, but he could be traded.
Thornton - Young player, I doubt there would be any interest in him.
Metro - Yeh Right............

With this bunch, the only players that might have any trade value for other clubs would be Shipp, Walker, T.Lo, Brown and McPhee.

Shipp would probably get traded back to victoria for draft picks (we have already been stripped of a third rounder).

Walker should be traded back to victoria and the Ideal list of players I'd want would be Chick, Joel Corey, Woewodin, Tarkyn Lockyer with swaps of draft picks included. I don't think we would be able to get any of these players cheaply though.

Since T.Lo has already been to Melbourne and come back due to homesickness, couldn't see him agreeing to be traded back there. If he does go anywhere he'll go to WC for draft picks, which could be ontraded later to give us some extra trade value.

McPhee is a great prospect, he's been hampered by injury this year, but could be worth a bit on the trade market.

Alot of speculation on the news says that we will trade Brown, I think this would be a huge mistake. Browny signed on last year at our lowest point. He loves the club, won the best clubman award last year and by all accounts had a big part in getting Pav to stay at freo. We should keep browny and give him more time to develop. Loyalty is a two way street.

In all I don't see that we will have any major trading power this year unless we let go of one of our good players (eg J.Lo). Rather than trying to trade heavily this year, I think that we should concentrate on getting the best available midfielders in the draft and if possible trade draft pics for fringe/tradable midfielders from other clubs. I'd rather see this group of players stay together than the normal turnover of 10 players each year.

How about West Coast's third round pick for McPhee?

Thats going to be the 43rd pick in the draft. I think we can get better than that fo him. mid to early second round I think. Plus I think the lad is keen on going home (gut instinct).

Just having a think about it, I wouldn't even trade a second round pick in this years draft for McPhee, unless there is someone we want in the draft, which we couldn't pick up with our other pick (Pick #21). I would rather trade him in a deal, or not trade him at all.

By the way, I am not saying he is worth a first round pick. I know he isn't. He is probably worth a second or third round pick, but I don't think it is a good idea trading developing players for unknowns, especially when the draft is reasonally weak. Also considering that we are not looking for 18 year olds anymore, we are looking for 21 year olds.

LOL he couldn't even get into the freo team this year, what do u think he is worth?

He had OP all year so that is why he didn't break in to the team until late in the year.

He was a second round pick when drafted and IMO is holding that worth. The 3rd round of the draft is usually full of crabs unless to take a chance or strike it lucky (Medhurst).

Leigh Brown shouldn't be traded. He was the first to come out and stick by Freo, and do it audibly. He was one of the reasons that Pav ended up staying. The club and it's supporters should show a bit of loyalty to him.

Yeh but is there really a place for Leigh Brown in the Dockers team?

Yes there is, I look at him like you guys look at Lynch his best & worst are miles apart but in saying that I think give him a year or two to develop further. Can never have too many big men.

Given he's on $250-$300k a year, if a club showed a lot of interest in him you'd be stupid not to consider it. Certainly if it involved getting Headland.

I know he had a down year but I wouldn't count out Chick, I still think he could add alot to our club.

Wasn't McPhee pick 39, and thus early third round?

We've got to move heaven and earth to get Headland. I don't 'tcare what it takes, the players that we can't afford to lose have already signed or are definate to (Hase, JLo). If it takes a direct swap for Croad - i'm for it!
