Around 100 people are milling around the Jack Wrout dining room at the Optus Oval.
Upstairs, club officals are locked away in rooms negotiating the futures of some of the AFL's biggest names.
Down here, reporters are sitting around tables, while club officials and coaches not involved in the talks mingle.
The atmosphere is quiet but with lots of little conversations as we wait for news.
AFL limbo
With the 2pm AFL trade deadline fast approaching, all the big names on offer are still in the dark about where they will be playing next season.
Hawk Jonathan Hay, Kangaroo Daniel Motlop, Port's Byron Pickett and Blue Brendan Fevola are all in AFL limbo, although Carlton has said the enigmatic Fevola is not up for grabs.
Only two players - Jason Saddington and Patrick Bowden - officially crossed clubs before 1pm on the last day, both for minor draft picks.
Clubs officials are now locked in meetings with rival clubs, finalising deals before 2pm - the strict AFL deadline when the clock on the big screen at Optus Oval completes its count down to zero.
A flurry of faxes and phone calls in this last hour will determine the players' fates.
Patrick Bowden
Western Bulldogs key position player Patrick Bowden has been traded to Richmond for round-four selection number 56. He'll join his brother, defender Joel Bowden at Punt Road.
Jason Saddington
Sydney Swans utility Jason Saddington has been traded to Carlton for round-four selection number 52.
Nick Davis
Sydney's finals hero Nick Davis has agreed to stay with this year's AFL premiers until the end of the 2007 season after agreeing to terms for a two-year deal today.
The Sydney-born Davis joined the Swans from Collingwood in 2003 after making his debut for the Magpies in 1999.
The 25-year-old played a pivotal role in the Swans' first premiership since 1933 by kicking four last quarter goals to engineer Sydney's great escape against Geelong in the second week of the finals.
"Now the challenge for me is to take my game to another level and at only 25 years of age I believe I have the capacity to do that,'' Davis said.
