Sorry to hear mate.
It might not mean much at the moment, but from someone who sees a bit of this stuff - medicine has come an incredible way and treatment is way better than even just 3 yrs ago. Less side effects, and far greater outcomes. You'll come through this amazingly, and you'll have us all behind you.

All the best bud.

Edit: and to McGooley too! Posted straight after reading TODdles post, and assumed that McGooley is what he'd named his tumour. So horrible to read a page forward and find another shinboner doing it tough. All the best mate, and we are behind you, regardless of how new here you are, you're one of us.

Edit edit: Noticed a new/strange mole around my groin a few weeks ago and have been putting it off getting checked out, due to being a ridiculously shy homebody. But you lads have urged me to action, and I've just booked for a spot check.

Ugh, skin cancer

Just when you think your in the clear something pops up again

So January was spent indoors on chemo cream. Yep never heard of it but it melts your skin away of any hard to see or future basals and you end up looking like a zombie

Fast forward to March so impressed that I’m going to ask the Dr whether i should do the whole body

Yep back to myself

Done away with the lists now......too much to keep track of for a head so zippered, and this is a time for positive thoughts, not people feeling crap cos' they inadvertently missed the thread........

.......but I really do wish to very sincerely thank everyone for their kind words. All of you.

Sometimes I can't always find the right words to use either, but trust me when I say that your kind words and wishes really do mean a lot to me. A whole lot.

Cheers, you goons.

(Edit: And a big 'get well soon' to any others on here going through similar. And an even bigger 'well done' to anyone who has gone through it and successfully conquered the beast.)

Oh my goodness me ToD. This is shocking news to read.

Hopefully the medical people have some very good ideas on how to get rid of the bits they couldn't extract in the first procedure.

Rest assured you will be in all our thoughts in the weeks ahead. All the very best to you and anyone else battling cancer at the present.

Are you guys any chance of attending games?

Sorry (for the late reply), Luke.

Personally, I'd be a decent shout (and I mean that 100% literally) for either or both of The Brave Doggies and GoDees games.

Round 3 - party at TOD Manor.

(Please BYO large, heated, in-ground pool and/or functional jacuzzi. And not one of those blow-up ones either. Same goes with the hookers. Still have mountains of leftover coke from my tenure as a Mod, so all good there.)

Just caught up on this and a bit floored. I have a close friend going through this at the moment - and has been battling it for close to 20 years now. Best wishes to both of you and everyone going through health issues.

I'll be in Melbourne for the GODees game. Unfortunately I won't be able to bring along any of ferball's finest. Don't know when I'll have some of that again.

Sorry that I am late to this thread, I have only sporadically checked into BF over the pre-season due to the amount of horrific shit that is posted on a daily basis. It just runs me down.

It is terrible news and am deeply saddened that ToD and McCooley have been hit with these health battles.

There has been significant advances in cancer medication in recent times, some good signs coming from a drug called Zelenirstat in Canada, I think that is nearing the end of phase 2 testing and the FDA in the USA has given it the green light to be commercialised and distributed after phase 2 trials are completed, they wont have to wait for phase 3 or 4 testng to be completed. Hopefully that is available soon as the treatment doesn't require chemotherapy.

I found out recently that a friend of a friend was told to get his things in order and was given a few months to live. That persons partner was a naturopath and was studying for her medical degree. She immediately put him on a ketogenic diet with strictly no sugars or carbs, this causes the body to go into ketosis and it burns fat for energy rather than glucose. This diet has been used a lot for the treatment and prevention of developing diabetes and also managing weight for fatties who usually got that way by consuming a lot of sugars and carbohydrates.

He saw quite significant shrinkage of tumors throughout his body, his was very advanced, was in his blood stream via bone and spread to most of his organs and specifically his brain as well. From what I understand it has been almost two years now since he was given the months to live diagnosis.

Cancers need a lot of glutamine to reproduce rapidly, far more than regular cells do and from my understanding is that they are able to use glucose to create the glutamine amino acid. In a host that is in ketosis, the lack of glucose becomes a hostile environment, it makes it much harder for new cancers to grow and can shrink existing cancers but in a study on mice with significant tumors have found this hostile environment sees higher rates of cancer metastasis as the cancer attempts to escape the now hostile environment. It is understood that ketogenic diet-induced metastasis are dependent on a protein called BACH1. We currently have BACH1 inhibitors to treat things like sickle cell disease and other chronic diseases but I think it would be worth talking to your oncologist about existing diet based ways to prevent or reduce the rate of cancer growth.

Not sure if that info helps anyone or not, we seem to have some amazing cancer related treatments on the horizon. I wish I had known this information a lot earlier as I have lost some people to various cancers in recent times. It makes he wonder why we really do not address the diet of modern Australians, we know the levels of sugars and carbs we consume are really bad for the human body long-term, we could prevent so many people becoming diabetic through a change of diet.

Now listen here you wonderful loon….
I will finally put to bed my jealousy of your lust for P. Dempsey et al and resume my compendium of your most outrê scrivenings on this totemic platform for the chance of a giggle and a (supressed) shout at a game or in row P of that recreation of the old Arden St “grandstand” in all it’s shambling, life-threatening glory. I concur with most who delight in ya that only you with yer massive, bewitching brain needed a lil’ trimming…
Onward ya rascal. And my shout for all when we can roustabout again, soon.
Love
ol mate.

Hi TOD. So sorry to hear about this. Sadly my sister has been stricken by Stage 4 Glio Blastoma for the past four weeks and has run out of options. I just rushed back to Ireland to see her. Best wishes.
Sorry to hear too

Apologies from me too Luke for my late reply. Sometimes when my world gets a bit wobbly I take a timeout but my answer is No to going to games anymore. Weather, walking distance & other factors now determine my engagement
with many outside things. I even have to plan my sleeping LOL. But I need to clarify a point.

When I first started my coughing I was mis-diagnosed by a so-called top specialist (Unfunny Fact: just because they charge $600 a visit doesn`t mean to say they don`t make mistakes). After a couple of years getting worse & stiff-armed by him I went around him & got a Second Opinion - I reckon it would have left me in a lot better position if I`d done it earlier. So my advice is "always whenever possible get that second opinion". This is about you & the people close to you not THEIR egos & wallets - when you leave their office you are no longer in their thoughts - you just gotta live with what they give you so take control of your health yourself. I found a medico who I could trust & accepted his advice. I`ve actually got - ideopathic pulmonary fibrosis & bronchiectasis (I think I picked the two worst ones to say & spell ) - chews your lungs up till you got no air left - terminal no exceptions. DRs. I reckon are like mechanics, punters & BF posters - good. mediocre or bad. I also found that majority of drs.in the public system quite often are excellent & driven to help their patients not their wallets.

So enuff of chucking advice around. I`ve got a fork in me (that`s an awful saying particularly if you are on the end of it 🤣)
but TOD is still in the fight. He`s tough & wants to fight & got a crew around him but you can still hit some dark spots so we just need to be around when we`re needed. It`s a big help to take your mind off your own problems sometimes & join
in the fight back up the ladder.

You never know TOD & you (his BF pit crew) maybe have a meet up at one of our games later in the year or first one next year.

Geez mate, all the very best to you. I hope you can defy the odds forevermore. That sure seems a shit pair of cards to be dealt. Us bunch of social misfits and miscreants are here for you too.

Hi, all.

Not that concerned about a shitty team losing a shitty pre-season game to another shitty team.

Not to mention bearing unholy witness to my beloved team’s sustained stretch of perennially shit football.

Why I hear you not ask? - Because getting diagnosed with f’ing brain cancer can very quickly change a person’s perspective on what is important in life:👍

Sitting in the Austin, bored shitless. Had a golf ball-sized tumour cut out of my head yesterday. Suddenly years of serial shit-(non-)posting explained!
Glad to see you’ve still got your fingers bro 😎

You're spot on. They were all fantastic. The doctors, the surgeons, the nurses, the theatre nurses, the physio girls.... I was beyond impressed with the care and empathetic treatment I received at every step. I was up on the 6th in Neurology, and the nurses up there are absolute professionals.

Except the Emergency Department of course. But that's always a complete shitshow in any woefully under-funded hospital

For the short time I was there, that was my main take-away - the Austin is a premier hospital with staff who toil and work their guts out to do an incredible job, but you can still tell the place is running on the smell of an oily rag. Which of course is a disgrace. Wtf, governments of the day? No excuses, stop burning away money on pointless shit. (Apolitical sloganeering ftw!)
Mate great show about Emergency Depts on Apple KRANK Berlin, a certain doctor reminded me of you 😉
