the shred can rest forward tho. He kicked 10 goals last year but i thought he had solid impact as a HFF that year and his delivary into 50 makes it an ideal position to for him to rotate through. Maybe with Redden they should work on his tank instead of bulking and work on his outside game. I think an ideal role for him would be as the type of tagger that nullifies his man influence (rather than completely negate him) but also wins his own ball around the ground. ( something like T.Mitchell and coniglio have done this year).

Yeah, you could be right wrt Shred, my recollection are his goals being as a product of streaming forward, stoppages and rebound off the zone, not him specifically stationed forward. I'm not saying he can't move around, I'm sure he'd be ok at HBF, but I believe we do need to develop some versatility around our mids. Redden as a tagger... not sure he'd surpass Hutchy in that role. Maybe he can develop into a KCornes style tagger (P4P undefeatable at his peak), but that reamisn to be seen. He's behind Shuey, Mitchell, Priddis, Sheed for IM roles and contending with Duggan and Hutchy too.

Collingwood trading in Lynden Dunn. I would rather Brown
Collingwood trades and FA signings seem to be run by BF teenage schoolkids on holidays.

Really don't understand the Hawks logic. Sure, they need to free up the space, but for what? They are essentially giving away their best players for free. There is no point having cap space if you have nothing to offer other teams in return for good players i.e draft picks and what are the rules on this? If a team just unloads all its best players for nothing, then drops down the ladder and secures good draft picks, isn't this a form of tanking?

Actually, it's worse than that - they are giving up their best players to top 8 rivals (assuming Melbourne continues to improve).

While Hawthorn's trades seem to be run by someone who hates Hawthorn :D

Pace means nothing if they can't win their own football. Look at Jetta, he has electric pace and excitement machine written all over him, and a fat load of good that does us if our midfielders are getting smashed and he can't win his own football.

SPP or another big bodied midfielder for our first IMO.

I don't disagree on SPP I wouldn't mind him as well and be happy with the choice but I also wouldn't mind Bolton because he is shaping as the most mercurial of the draft picks as he can break lines and step around players ,takes a big mark and kick freakish goals ,plus adds to the metres gained stats and also can cleanly rove taps from ruckman in the middle..

I do like him a lot and either way I'm not fussed with the BB midfielder selection either if that's the way it goes .

As already mentioned, means they can load up Jaeger's contract this year, which has the added bonus of removing GCs threat of sending him to the PSD.

Wily old Hawks
You risk upsetting the apple cart for older players who've taken pay cuts to stay at the club though, and they still haven't traded for jaeger yet.

There's a lot of risk here for potential long term gain.

Loading up on his contract this year should have no bearing on whether GC send him to the PSD though does it? That would be solely dependent on what GC get for him in any potential trade for him.

Or am I missing something?

Back away. Slowly.

Always worry when this word is used to describe a player. Usually means, shitloads of talent but inconsistent or lazy or f****d in the head.

If I'm not wrong, a player in the PSD can put a price on their head that a team taking them has to match. Hawks clearing space means they could front end it so others won't want to take him. Not sure if you have to match year by year or just total contract though...

And Collingwood.... What are they doing?

Means if he's sent to the PSD (as GC have threatened if Hawks can't satisfy them in a deal), he can put a huge price on his head for a one year deal that only the Hawks could pay.

Has to be total contract and has to be minimum 2 years.

Liam Pickering mentioned they are working with WCE to get Brown to a new home so i take it it will involve a trade nowt that FA is up. He also mentioned about WCE's salary squeeze so maybe he was on good coin to keep him from the Saints back in 2012.

I wonder if a swap of Brown for Marsh will work? His brother joked this morning about Brown keeping his No16 at the Pies. If say Brown is on 300-350k that would free up a fair bit as Marsh can be put on a smaller contract.

I thought Collingwood and Hawthorn were very good at trading and drafting . This year I dont think they are very good at it.

...Either that or we have some serious muppets working in the media dept.

Alex McDonald manages Geelong's Steven Motlop, among others, and was just on NAB AFL Trade Radio.

Some key points:

  • Tom Lamb should be at the Eagles again next year. Was a young draftee, has had to grow up and mature. In the second half of the year in the WAFL started to show something.

So the West Coast twitter handler might not have been lying when they told me Lamb was contracted for 2017

Agree with Lamb's manager that Lamb has had to grow up and mature but disagree that he started to show something in the second half of the year in the WAFL - I thought his form went backwards.

As I've said previously I'm certain that Lamb tried to find a Victorian club to go home to. That he hasn't leads me to believe he didn't get a better offer than we'd put on the table and with any luck it will be the kick up the arse he perhaps needs to knuckle down and make the most of his talents.really handy

Really hope he does well next year, if he does we have a really handy player

His "standing with his hands on his hips" went to another level late in the season. Elite.

He was out of contract
He was offered a measily contract according to Guruless Hagdorn . The Guruless must have seen the video of brown that his contract was withdrawn . It appears West Coast havent officially let him go yet so they as nice guys (unlike hawthorn ) can get him to a Melbourne AFL team .
