If I'm not wrong, a player in the PSD can put a price on their head that a team taking them has to match. Hawks clearing space means they could front end it so others won't want to take him. Not sure if you have to match year by year or just total contract though...

Means if he's sent to the PSD (as GC have threatened if Hawks can't satisfy them in a deal), he can put a huge price on his head for a one year deal that only the Hawks could pay.

Right. I'd forgotten about this.

Has to be total contract and has to be minimum 2 years.

This is all sorts of risky IMO. You'd have to think this is upsetting the 'family club's' apple cart a bit. He'd have to be paid well overs to make sure no one had a crack. I reckon they'd be getting themselves into all sorts of strife doing this. Would also sour relations with GC a fair bit (and other clubs) and that's a bit short-sighted. You don't go pissing off your feeder clubs like that do you? That's not a good way to do business.

I'm more inclined to think they're building up a bit of a war chest to grab Fyfe/Martin etc next year. That is scary.

It sounds like it's probably only a one year deal for Lamb so good chance he is gone next year.

No harm if he does

He wanted out but couldn't find a buyer. So if he has another poor year we delist him - it's not like we've missed an opportunity to get a trade for him this year.

If he has a good year we either re-contract him on the back of improved form or we lose him to a Victorian club but at least have a chance of getting a trade return for him.

Oddly enough, considering he's been an under performing player him staying is actually a good result

The problem with that is that this coming year they'll be pretty ordinary, and they'll be trying to sell Fyfe/Martin to join a pretty meh team, who will be losing Hodge, Burgoyne, Gibson from that team. Their midfield will be T Mitchell, JOM (hope for his sake he can get to 100% but wouldn't be holding ones breath) and a bunch of dross. Who are the young players that would inspire someone chasing a premiership to join them?

I wouldn't be surprised if Fyfe went this year. Freo should have cap to match any offer any other club puts to Fyfe. Guess could be traded next year ala danger. But surely freo would get more this year.

It would be very tempting for Freo if he decided today he wanted to go to the Gold Coast with all there high picks!

It's getting a bit late in the trade period for someone like Fyfe to go. Unless it's being done behind closed doors. They still have Hamling and Kersten to get done.

Yes but other option is everyone retire and end up with all dross. Tapping up star players, getting them to come to ur club and have someone else take draft risks is way to go. Especially if AFLPA want to ruin afl and have free agency ASAP.

Liam Ryan. My God we need him.

Got some potential Ryan but it is still a huge step up from the WAFL, not exactly been tearing the WAFL apart. Hope he gets a chance and better if its with us but still it is only potential at this point.

I wonder if a swap of Brown for Marsh will work? His brother joked this morning about Brown keeping his No16 at the Pies. If say Brown is on 300-350k that would free up a fair bit as Marsh can be put on a smaller contract.

Wouldn't mind it, even if Emac stays. Marsh might be playing in the WAFL for a while, but he is still very young, so has plenty of time to improve. He was drafted as a forward, so perhaps he could even be tried as a forward again?

Excellent news that my sponsored player lives to fight another day for once.

Well done, Tom. You are a bloody legend.
He thinks so
