I thought the same thing actually. Thought he was going to chime in after a minute and say "Oh, Hayden Ballantyne? Nah we're not interested. Bye"
Ok, so now I'm considering calling up to do a reverse pitch.

I think he was waiting for them to accept our 100+ pick then decline as we could do better in the draft.

But - I suspect he may be useful if body and mind are in good nick.

Oh Jesus. I work with a member of the Freo official cheer squad and its been nothing but "we are going to beat your mob next year" and "we must be favourites to win the whole thing again next year". I want to throw something at her fat head.

Just throw the Lavenders sad and tragic history back at her , that will be heavy enough to KO her.

Also remind her that nothing fuels disappointment like expectation.
I said at an eagles freo game to no one in particular "why would a fat ugly person draw attention to themselves " it quietened down after that

Freo is meh
hill is soft as ****
Mcarthy will get the number 1 tall defender most weeks and get done
Bennell - would be good if he can sort out his calfs and nose .
Hamling - benefited from a team defence and midfield dominance . Will get found out .
Kerstin is a third tall at best

Soft draw will paper over a lot of cracks at Freo next year .

No doubt, the supporters should be looking at their offseason through optimistic glasses especially for the injections of Fyfe and Bennell into their midfield, the problem becomes how do you appraise the rest of the team? Some players will improve, others will regress and if you look at the sum total of their list turnover, the significant march up the ladder looks a few years away. One of Freo's significant issues has been their depth. If they can develop that, especially on the back of Peel's WAFL premiership, then you can make the argument that they could improve significantly in 2017. That's the great unknown. Will that WAFL depth translate into AFL success?

Back to my initial post, it was more centred on the killing it comment. I don't believe they are killing it but they are having a very nice offseason, one which should fill their supporter base with much hope and optimism. Mind you, if Ross goes back to his game plan, they can forget all about the offseason success.

You are correct, getting McCarthy for not much was pretty good, but it's not like they got Sam Mitchell for pick 88 and got their previous team to cover some of the salary!

Throwing the Freo silverware at them is not going to be a physical offence!

Freo have potentially picked up a bag of spuds. Apart from hill, no one is proven

And even then Hill has a lot of negatives on him with his ability to go missing, very soft and outside.

The Salary floor is way too high and absolutely ****s clubs up into overpaying mediocre players.

Makes it hard for low clubs to keep aside money to have a real crack at free agents if they have to be spending all their money on an underperforming list

I wrote a theory on the main board that the best way around the salary floor is to overpay guys on the fringe of the team and the guys who aren't getting a regular run. Sounds counterintuitive but these are the guys most likely to get delisted and where you'll be making room in the salary cap. Seen as though clubs almost never delist their stars then you end up hurting yourself by overpaying them.

Brisbane with Tom Rockliff are a perfect example. The figures reported are he is on about 800K a year. He's not an 800K a year midfielder. Only at Brisbane because they need to use the salary up somewhere. But if he were on 600K year (which is about his actual value compared to other players in the competition) and spread that 200K over 4 or 5 players who aren't in the clubs top 22, then if/when those guys get delisted that's an extra 200K in the salary cap. The problem is once a guy works his way into the top half a dozen or so players at the club it's very difficult to negotiate his next contract back down.

Obviously you can't have 3rd year players struggling to get a regular game being paid 500K a year.

Was just telling this to a freo mate but their better off making with adames that Kersten. Theres no one really big or imposing enough for them to take the number one kpf mantle. Adams has had experience playing forward before and even tho he is a tad short to be true kpf, he is a physical beast and an athlete. He probably can be dangerous enough to take ve the FF. He may not kick bags enough but structurally frees McCarthy to play his natural position.
