I'd like to think its a meritorious system when you have woefully out of form players in the best 22 getting extended runs, it does shake your confidence.

The point is that it's easy to say some bloke can't play but unless they get extended time how do you really know?

I think that is a cop out for him, his role is to crumb and kick goals. Part of his role is to be defensive but that is a part of all forwards roles. I have never heard or seen him being played as a defensive forward. He is a forward his role is to score first and foremost or create score assists.
Who is it that currently has the role of small crumbling forward if it is not him?
Being #6 on the list of total tackles for 2015 made him a defensive forward. He dropped off sharply this year though.

I think it's great his defensive work, I just don't believe that is what he is selected for. At this minute he is our small crumbling forward.

Look forward to seeing motlop in the blue and gold. (that's how what you wrote sounds ;))
That's because we're trading lamb for Motlop

Even with Cripps being down from 2015, he still managed 94 tackles this year. 41 more than Josh Hill. Because of this I see Josh Hill as our crumbing/opportunistic forward and Cripps purely as a defensive forward. Either way, I think we need a better crumbing forward than Hill or Cripps.

We dont have one and have had this problem for years.
Its why Shai Bolton and Liam Ryan would be massive boons for the club.
Both would play straight away and Shai has midfield potential as well.

28 goals is a pretty decent return for a small forward to be honest.

Defensive forwards still need to score goals as thats what they get paid for but Cripp's other role is his defensive work.
he gets goals and applies pressure but he ain't a genuine crumber and we don't have one. Josh hill was brought in for that and yes he does get the odd opportunistic goal here and there but he plays more like a taller player. Its why we need a genuine crumber, someone that can make some thing out of nothing or thrive when our talls get curtailed.

Really?
I don't know much about the kid but Bolton looks tiny.

Pickering said yesterday that we have cap issues. I think it was him. It was on tradio in regards to us not offering brown a new contract. Not sure if it was mentioned. Not that surprising I suppose.
I think the cap issue is more to do with the fact that we do not have much to give a 5th in line KPD hence money is tight. I would not be offering much for Brown so not expecting others to be paying overs. Don't forget Pickering is a greedy prick and pushes his players value up and blames the club for not meeting market. A trend I have noticed with his responses.

If he is good enough to warrant a selection he should play. Guys like Charlie Cameron and even Gaff in their first year were tiny. In terms of Gaff, he played 17 games in his first year.

From his manager Alex McDonald on Trade Radio today:
  • Tom Lamb should be at the Eagles again next year. Was a young draftee, has had to grow up and mature. In the second half of the year in the WAFL started to show something.

Edit: Keys' link is better. I wouldn't take the club's social media person's word for anything though, they didn't even know the free agency period had ended.
Words like "should" and "likely " seem to be code for " we would trade if we could " .

In the short team, I reckon Marley could be a nice replacement for Butler if he breaks down next season.

Cole and Nelson need a little longer to develop IMO.

Bear in mind we are already pretty stocked down back with Sheppard, Hurn and Wellingham. Plus the aforementioned Butler and the possibility of other players spending time down there such as Mitchell, Jetta, Yeo, Hill and Duggan.

Bottom line is another half-back flanker isn't a screaming need for us.

If butler breaks down, Cole comes in - he has the ability to become the type of attacking, line breaking half back flanker that is popular now. I want to see him putting pressure on butler for a spot in the 22 regardless. Ideally by the end of 2017 Cole is in the side on merit and butler is playing for east perth

Nelson needs to be developed as a defensive midfielder
