It beg's the question... Is it Rockliff or is it Brisbane?

If you lean towards Rockliff then does not his friendship with Redden make cause for similar concerns given they share views...

I think Rockliff is just a tad ignorant of the destructive force that is political correctness

What? The destructive force that is political correctness? So its not Rockliff's fault that he behaves like a neanderthal? It's the ridiculous politically correct society that is trapping young blokes like him?

And as for the concerns around friendship, you mean like Kerr was good mates with Judd? So good infact that he was in his bridal party. You know, the same kerr that was doing ketamine and jumping on cabs and breaking off antennas and belting cars with them. Yeah, I can see how their friendship caused for 'similar concerns given they shared views'. I mean look at Judd the total loser that he is after hanging aroun Kerr. Divorced, wife taking out AVOs on him, in and out of court just like his mate Kerr.

So essentially just get rid of free agency and go back to trades only?

I'm not opposed to removing FA but the reality is the players pushed hard for it and got it. They wanted more control over being able to move clubs, which isn't surprising given the previous system was very restrictive and possibly even illegal in terms of restrain of trade.

I'd rather FA compensation simply be removed and the compensation is the cap space the club now has to recruit another player themselves. But that could potentially **** over clubs down the bottom of the table.
I agree with the removing compo part. A way around the potential for bottom teams being screwed over could be to have rules or restrictions on FA. For example, if you finish top 4 you can't be a part of the "free agency period" as such (more than welcome to trade for the player you want, if he doesn't get picked up by someone else, but can't grab him for free). Also all this bs about players nominating clubs needs to stop. They are proffesional footballers who chose this lifestyle so they need to live with what comes with it.. If you sign a contract you stick to it unless the club is the one that provokes the trade.

Haha. That was actually funny.

Its not perfect for sure. And the lack of transparency in how these compensation picks are calculated is frustrating.

But the whole premise of FA agency compensation is that if Shuey did want out and he had been with us for 8 years (meaning we'd sunk some development into him) and his pay was in the top 25% of our list (meaning we clearly valued him), then given his age and the contract which was offered by the poaching club, we'd be compensated accordingly.

At least that's the premise anyway.

Better than him being able to just walk out and nominating Hawthorn, them agreeing to terms and him giving us the two finger salute as he left. We get nothing under that scenario.

It's not perfect but it's trying to strike a balance between allowing players to move between clubs when the opportunity arises and compensating the losing club for that loss.

If we thought we got a bit gipped with Selwood last year, the mother of all Gipps is Hawks losing Franklin and getting pick 19. Particularly when this year Richmond will get pick 26 for losing that crab cake (with lashings of potatoes) Vickery. Like I said, its not perfect.

The alternative of clubs determining fair value for players is, well, just trading really. Which is pretty much what happens when players aren't free agents, a la O'Meara. The difference is, Gold Coast can say FU to Hawks if they're not happy with what the Hawks offer and O'Meara is sent to the draft where he is fair game for anyone.

They need to start giving out random selections that aren't directly correlated to where a team finishes. That's most of the problem. In some cases it evens out the competition (I don't think giving Hawks 19 was necessarily a bad thing, can you imagine if they had another high draft pick to add to their list..) I just think that in certain situations the afl needs to step in to overrule the pick and be realistic about what the player is actually worth. Maybe ask all other 17 clubs what they would pay for the player in a trade and average it out? ( I know that has the potential to be abused but surely there's something along those lines that can be figured out)

Off topic, but has anyone gone through the Giants drafting history? Pretty overrated, they've had some shockers, Ahern could end up their last player from a lot of picks in 2014, and he's a cripple. Team is mostly built through incredible trading and the players they got first rights to like Cameron/Shiel. They'll be contenders but I'm not at all convinced there's some super team coming through.

They can afford some shockers;)
But it goes to show the risks in the draft - we are all human

Duggan was drafted as a pure mid, and was played as one pre-draft and since.

I don't recall it being as black & white as you are saying. He spent plenty of time on the half back line pre-draft.

And spent a lot of time across half forward for the Eagles.

Well that just makes his propensity to go touch-less for large chunks of WAFL games look even worse.

Regardless of how you define Duggan's role I still think my point, that we should use our second pick on a mid, is a valid one

He's an unrestricted free agent so there's no cost besides cap space.

You're right though - if he wants opportunity, he's better off at Freo. And then when you consider he probably has a lot of friends there but none/few at WC you wonder why he'd leave. Perhaps if we've offered him more money he'd have to think about it however it's hard to imagine we're willing to use much more cap space on the ruck division. Seems unlikely.

He'll get one year with us to show how good he is. If he can shine then he can get a big contract with another club by saying look how good I was with WCE when NicNat was injured.

I'm hoping we get Clarke. Right age, very athletic, has shown potential in past but appears to have got bogged down in Freo's system.

Can we take Waterman with our last pick or has father/son drafting changed?

Yes WCE can take Jake with the last pick as long as no team makes a live bid for him otherwise if a bid is made WCE will have to match it ,if they think he it is around where they have rated him ..

Darling + #12 + change to Essendon for pick #1

#1 to GWS for Fremantles deal to GWS (pick #7, pick #15 and McCarthy)

For Essendon id also look at giving up next years second or something to sweeten the deal.

??????????????

That deal would be amazing for us I think...

I would rather keep Darling than get McCarthy to be honest. Yes the extra and higher pick would be great but i think we stick with Darling and expect him to kick 50+ next year

I just still think that the club saying Darling isn't up for trade probably means he won't be traded.

If there is any chance McCarthy gets back to where he was you are not missing out on anything though.

I know what you are saying but i think it is a massive risk, I don't like how he has approached leaving a club (Mental Illness aside) and i don't know if he is ready to be a full time AFL footballer. Jack is and a good one and i think we would be silly to throw that away for a what if.

I now want Carlton to go hard for oneara and Mitchell. Just for shit and giggles. All that cap space needs to be used.

The Devil you know is better than the Devil you don't as the saying goes;)

Would have wanted rotham if our need for inside mid wasn't so obvious. We really lack a line breaking flanker as well.
I think our line breaking half back stocks are pretty good to be honest.

Sheppard
Wellingham
Hurns - Ball use
Yeo

Even Schofield can do it. It's one of the reasons we got so far in 2015

Just didn't do it effective enough this year but i think the stock is there

I reckon once the WA boys that live interstate come to play against us at Burswood stadium in front of 65k fans in 2018, and see us training at a top facility in lathlain they might think perth is a good option. Whilst we are sitting on wooden planks at subi - forget it
New stadium enough to entice you home? ;)
