Huh?

Hawks - Poor
Collingwood - Poor
Stop nit picking.
OK not every single trade has been great value but that club still got it's player.
Collingwood - Mayne - FA so cost FA
Hawks - Dickery - FA so cost FA

But in general most trades have been in the favour of the club getting it's player.

Huge upgrade?

Get you hand off it.

You're a very good poster, but this is deadset bullshit.
The only good thing about hutch his ability to tag. Koby has pace for once and finds the footy as well as being able to play a few positions. In my himble opinion that's a pretty big upgrade.

Looks like Carlton picked up a 2nd round pick next year off GWS by giving up their 1st round next year.
So everyone traded to benefit Hawks and try to get the deal through? Weird how those two traded picks for no reason other than to trade a second rounder to Hawks

Port moved on pick 9 but shored up later picks, obviously hitting the draft hard.

My concern is they haven't actually cut the list or improved it. Seems like a club that doesn't know which way they're going.
Really depends on how the clubs view this year and next year's draft. If you think next year is poor, trade into this year.

Freo swapped their 2017 2nd rounder for pick 35 from hold coast

Glad we didn't do something like that

Would have done that deal, 34 and 35 would get a couple of good prospects and our pick next year would be likely to be about the same position.

Freo lose out if they don't improve hugely on this year, that pick will be in the mid 20s.

Dude, get over it, Stevens is not anywhere near as good as Hutch, and you're gonna be pretty salty when Hutch is playing most weeks for us again this year coz the coaches here rate him. :D
I thought hutch offered us much more in 2015 and was decent. But he was rubbish till the last few weeks this year.
Btw I'm the type that would love to be proved wrong regarding players. I've done it in the past and have gladly excepted to eat some humble pie.

Stevens is no faster than Hutch, he can find the footy just as well and can play the same positions.

Much of a muchness really.

Once there were men called Vozzy and Brady
First they got us Kneedy
To save us from a washed up Petrie
they then traded Nathan Vardy
Still could get no picky for our Ezy
but thank god we avoided Reecy, Haydy, Petrie and Rocky
Think this should make us all very hardy

I apologise in advance.

I think the delay in JOM, Gibbs, Deledio and Marchbank deals getting done are ******* with this

I know some of you will probably think "It's the list managers job, if they're any good they'll get it done" but, Personally I think it's about time the AFL introduced a new deadline that sees the "big" trades being completed on the Wednesday and if they don't, too bad. Just so these smaller trades still have a chance of being completed before deadline. The fact clubs are still trying to get these bigger trades done up until the last minute is crazy, look at the amount of pick swaps and smaller trades like Williams, Black & Palmer got done just before deadline. Can't keep having clubs basically hijacking the whole trade period. Or perhaps it's time to bring in an NFL styled system and allow picks to be traded during the draft.

It's rather ridiculous that we weren't able to improve our draft position, and no doubt it wouldn't be through lack of trying but rather for the reason you gave.

Thinking about it Freo have picks 35 and 40

They'll use one of those on Ryan

Also wonder if they bid on waterman as well

2014:
Pick 4 - Pickett
Pick 6 - Marchbank
Pick 7 - Ahern
Pick 23 - McKenna
Pick 24 - Steele
Pick 85 - Finlayson

2013:
Pick 1 - Boyd
Pick 2 - Kelly
Pick 14 - McCarthy
Pick 29 - Lobb
Pick 97 - Barrett

2012:
Pick 1 - Whitfield
Pick 2 - O'Rourke
Pick 3 - Plowman
Pick 12 - Jaksch
Pick 14 - Corr
Pick 27 - Stewart

2011:
Access pick: Treloar
Pick 1 - Patton
Pick 2 - Coniglio
Pick 3 - Tyson
Pick 4 - Hoskin-Elliott
Pick 5 - Buntine
Pick 7 - Haynes
Pick 9 - Tomlinson
Pick 10 - Sumner
Pick 11 - Greene
Pick 13 - Adams
Pick 14 - Smith

The only players they got any value from were Boyd, Treloar, Tyson and Adams.

They could field another AFL side with the draft picks they've burned.

More like drafting isn't an exact science, even with high draft picks.

12/28 kept with 4 traded for good value. 16/28. 57% strike rate is actually pretty good.

Hawks copped the pineapple this trade period but watch them make a play for "Free Agent Fyfe" this time next year with all that new found salary cap space.

I reckon they will take one year of pain to become instant contenders again in 2018....

In: Mitchell, Vardy, pick 12, pick 34, pick 54 (Waterman), possibly a DFA to bring the list to 40.
Out: Ellis, Cavka, McGinnity, Bennell, Brown

Happy with that.
a month ago you would be accused of being delusional to suggest this outcome

This is what I was worried about last week but got grumbled at for suggesting we weren't being active enough.

There's a reasonable chance we will bite and use our second on Waterman, and will therefore have to rely on our first and third picks to replenish our shitty midfield stocks.

EDIT - just realised that Freo bidding with pick 35 won't cause us to use our second.

The price GCS sets becomes inconsequential if the price the market is willing to pay differs. It's simple economics.

Huh? With respect, that is not simple economics at all. What you're suggesting is that the buyer always has the power, because no matter what price the seller sets they can lowball them and the seller has no choice but to agree to the price, because their demands are inconsequential. What you're not taking into account is supply. What you're suggesting may work in Phuket when your're haggling about a pair of knock off Nike's which are, literrally a dime a dozen, but try applying that 'simple economic' theory to something a little more valuable and scarce, say a drug to cure cancer, or a former No. 1 draft pick who the buyer is clearly after, and see how that goes. The Hawks can't just walk over to the Lions table and offer them the same deal for a JOM can they, or to the Tigers table?

In the case of scarcity of supply the seller very much has the balance of power and it goes a little bit like the JOM trade is going right now.

An idea I had would be an extra hour or so after the deadline where draft picks could be traded. Reading your post expanding that to player trades for picks excluding the first two rounds would allow for a window to get less significant trades done as well.

I think that could work as it gives some clear air after the main trades have been done
