Not totally against the Barlow thing.
Just a year to year proposition. You know he will give his all if and when he gets a game and has a decent tank.
Not scared to put his body on the line or fight for the hard ball, unlike others on our list atm that get a gig every week.
At worst he will put pressure on first 8-12 mid/fwds to perform every week.
At best he could be a solid contributor that sets an example on what it means to dig deep when you need to.

The only freo players I would take are fyfe, weller, and umm that's about it. Seeing as they arnt leaving I don't want any of em...

At best he'll play and make our team even slower while keeping out a Duggan, Nelson.

At worst he sits in the WAFL taking up a spot on he list that could be the next Gov, Cox, Prussia etc

For the current year, yes you need to pay as much as you can to relieve pressure in future years. So if you had room you would front load to meet the cap.

Carlton probably front load to the extent that they would have significant room future years. As total contract value would be much less than hawks as example.
That logic doesn't follow. Carlton have been out of the 8 for the last how many years and hawks have been in the top few for most of that period. You can't keep frontloading for ever - at some point the backload hits and you have to prop up other contracts to reach 95%. Over a 4 year period the maximum difference in player payroll is still only 5%.

It's a sad reality, all clubs have pretty much equal payroll - it's one of the fundamentals of equalisation but it ultimately undermines free agency as another (more effective) tool.

I was over simplifying but I do think list management is more clever than that but it could end up that top end talent get paid considerably more. Which is dangerous should as if something happened they'd be harder to move on.

It really does - instead of players coming into fa and cellar dwellers having shedloads of cap space to swoop its hawthorn and stinkney

Problem with our midfield is work rate to outnumber opposition at the contest. Too many mids just playing spectator.

If speed was just the issue Jetta would be in but he isn't for a reason.

Way too many times our mids were amongst lowest possession getters when really that's reserved for backmen, forwards and rucks. Not mids. When you aren't getting it, you look slow.

Wondering what's going on with the finalisation of our list

Club has said brown is leaving to Victoria but he hasn't been officially delisted yet. Why the delay?

If he's out the door make it official unless :

1) we plan to retain him if he can't find another club which seems unlikely or
2) there is one or more other players being delisted and we want to announce them in one go but haven't been able to talk to the players concerned face to face yet

Too many we wingers. Gaffs the only one who can kinda get excused but even at times he goes harder than masto, lecca and Jetta. We need wingers like duggan. That are great outside but go in hard and make a contest.
