Is there anything to this Lewis thing? Wonder if it impacts the Hawks letting Mitchell go?
In the audio I mentioned earlier Wright said that they'd been asked about Lewis but he said he's a contracted and required player

Don't think it'll have any bearing on Mitchell

Mitchell would be worth pick 51 alone for the knowledge and craft he can teach our young mids- and if you look at our recent development of players it would be hard to say this is an area we arent lacking in. He provides leadership and ball winning capabilities. Is still playing at an elite level. if all we have to pay for him is a late pick to secure him for one, maybe two seasons on top of securing ourselves one of the most highly regarded football brains currently in the AFL as an assistant coach. then it is the biggest bargain for the club and we'd be stupid not to jump at the opportunity

See, we're the only player in the game here - either he comes to us and they get the cap relief, or he's playing there next year at $600k. Hawks need to get this over the line, I don't think the pick compo is the issue for them. The likely issue is how much of Mitchell's salary they'll have to eat to make this work. I'd say 69 is plenty and they should be covering 150-200k of the salary too.

I'm not sold on the idea of bringing in a ruckman for 1 season. As it is, we have 2 healthy ruckmen for next season in Giles and Lycett. McInnes can play the ruck/fwd role if we need and Brown can pinch hit in the ruck. We may have Naitanui to add to the mix come finals next year too. (Not expecting him to set the world on fire when he gets back though.

I'd rather we look at a project ruckman if we are going to have another ruck on the books.
Esava Ratugolea comes to mind as he can play the fwd/ruck role

McInnes isnt a ruckmans A hole and hes just not up to AFL standard as a forward,he cant compete in the air and very rarely marks the ball.He is also injury prone.
Ditto Brown, not even as pinch hitters.
Giles will give 100% in the ruck and will probably give you a game like in Adelaide once every 10 games, imo the coach wants him still as that "3rd" ruck option.
Whoever they recruit they want as Lycetts back up each week, imo.
Nic depending where we are on the ladder and i reckon that will have to be top 4 when hes due back if not he may be wrapped in cotton wool until the 2018 season.

Reckon they'll manage Priddis and Mitchell carefully to get as much out of them, even leaving them out for some interstate games.

Mitchell may want to go another year if Nic gets back and he gets to rove to those delicious taps. I mean, he already knows how to do it from playing us previously.

Don't think Priddis needs management at all, the dude is a robot. Mitchell doesn't seem to be breaking down either, and up until he started getting hard tagged, was close to elite. My worry is defensively how we got with both him and Priddis in the midfield.

Who will Hawthorn use to tag S Mitchell when we play them next year?

Gee i still really want to go for our first this year and next year for gold coasts 4 second rounders. They already have picks 4,8 and that will give them pick 12 with them likely to also pick up pick 6 and 14 as well from the hawks. Also means they are into next years first round a second time as well. I must be a broken record but i've said this so many times but with the lack of a standout top 10 but instead being a huge clumping of players from pick 4 - 35 imo giving us 5 cracks at the cherry as well as gaining waterman and mitchell just makes so much sense. Personally i've gone off vardy a bit after watching some of his more recent games closely as the injuries seem to be tolling up and having an effect on his play.

Brown goes, chop karpany and mcinnes onto the rookie list. Mitchell comes in for a pick swap of 34 and 52 for mitchell, 36 and 54. Lamb goes with 54 for the saints pick 50.

20 Rotham
22 SPP
24 Bolton
26 Simpkin
30 Scharenberg
36 Drew
50 Ryan
70 Waterman

R1 Goddard

You end up with a half back utility with great skill and vision who can possibly turn into a mid. Worst case i see him as a hurn replacement as a backline general, best case scenario think david mundy + elite footskills.
Powerful half forward who shows explosive ability away from the contest, very good hands and goal kicking ability. Worrisome footskills, particularly with his ball drop and tends to kick to a general area of a target rather than putting it on his chest.
Classy half forward with exceptional skill and agility. Only this low due to injury.
A medium forward with midfield potential. Think of this as a lecras replacement but with more of a midfield leaning or similar to alan didak.
Good all round midfielder who finds the ball at will, has already stepped up to seniors and very good vision and skill by hand. Also good at getting the ball out when tackled but lacks pace and agility and also worries about family history with knee injuries.
Aggressive, hard at it inside mid who thrives at getting the ball. Very courageous. Unfortunately is a ranga and question marks on utility.
Forward pocket speciallist
Mid sized forward, third tall forward who will do anything he can to succeed. Shows great leadership. Unsure of position at afl level, not sure he has the touch to be an inside mid and can be erratic in front of the big sticks. Part of that could be due to needing a bigger tank as he regularly seems to take shots on goal whilst exhausted.

In the rookie draft with our sole pick i would take goddard. Best ruckman in the draft imo.

Would expect SPP, Scharenberg, Ryan to definitely play games next year with rotham, waterman and simpkin possibilities. Think drew will need a couple of years to put on the size and strength to play his position due to lack of utility in other positions. Bolton a maybe but needs a lot more strength and size, would fear he could break otherwise. Goddard at a pinch could ruck next year. Doesn't do a lot around the ground at this stage but with cox, nicnat and slyce to learn from will improve over time and easily the best tap ruckman in his draft year.

No i meant we would have to be in the top 4 for Nic to come back late in the season anything lower on the ladder and we would wrap him in cotton wool for the 2018 season.
No i dont think we will finish top 4.

Jonty Scharenberg wasn't he one of the players to test poorly at the combine and is expected to slide now ?

Heard we have shown some interest in Cedric Cox

The bye and Bulldogs winning it all from 7th say hello.

If WCE are fit and have some momentum, they may bring back Nic even if they're outside the 4

Partington is a similar size to Mitchell - an inch or so taller and a few kilos lighter but I see him playing a similar role to Mitchell - winning the footy and disposing of it cleanly.

He's raw but there's talent there to work with and Mitchell will help with positioning and looking for the right option through traffic.

Call it a gut feel but I reckon parto will really enjoy Mitchell's tutelage

y zat pacifically?

Far out this thread moves quickly that reply was 20 odd pages back and I only posted it last night

I open myself to Mitchell in open arms.

His first game is going to be the one of the biggest games since ben cousin's return from injury.

Get it done asap can't wait to see him round 1.
