Trade Week a failure - NO KPP attained

How many KPP do we need.

I see it like this, our KPB's will be Jammo and Waite and up forward I think Hendo and Kruezer/Casboult.

You can only have 4 KPP per team.

Our forward line is going to have a little more grunt with Collins. Our backline will have some run with Laidler.

We keep Walker and Irish who can add to our team in 2011.

And Thorton can help the Aints win a premiership.

* Ratten just on the radio, Setanta will play down back next year, possibly CHB, and Walker will play through the midfield more.

Given our supposed "best" KPD's went backwards this year relying on them being the answer to our defensive problems is a worrying thought.

We might have KPD's on our list, doesn't mean they are any good.

Wait for White to come on a bit before mouthing off stupid. He looked excellent last year before he got injured.

Please tell me who you had in mind as a KPD to target in trade week???

The extra cash will still be there next year.

Due to the GC, landing a decent player this year was always going to be hard, as clubs ensured most of their stars were signed early.

Free agency is coming, and we are still cashed up. We could have wasted the money on an average KPP to appease supporters, however thankfully the club is not so short-sighted.

I am sure we will address this, in time for our premiership run. Have patience - it is hardly now or never.

Because the ONLY players we talked to over trade week were those reported by the media ......... I mean it was common knowledge we were going after Laidler since day 1 of trade week, and Collins was linked to us since the Tigers finished in rd 22 :rolleyes::rolleyes:

1) Just because we are linked to a player by the media doesn't me we have actually gone after them (roflmfao @ Travis Cloke link)

2) Just because we HAVEN'T been linked to a player doesn't mean we haven't approached them .............

Lose the "rolling eyes" window licker.

Clubs can be known to have an "interest" in a player. As was the case with Walker without a deal necessarily being a possibility.

If we made inquiries about certain players then be transparent about it and let the members know about it.

It's extremely common in other sports so I don't seen why it can't be done in AFL.

I'm under no illusions we can just go get a KPD, but to know we were out there looking puts my and probably other minds at rest that it's being addressed.

Ratten, and I think Judd, have previously stated that we would target a KPD.

Is your mind at rest now?

I'll take a guess and say no...

Don't call me stupid you **** head.

People are entitled to their opinions you sanctimonious prick.

I never said we had someone in mind, i said it would be nice to be seen to at least be inquiring into such players.

We have waited for Jamison and Bower to come on and they both went backwards.

Ohhhhh settle down hero.

How the hell do you know what the club did and who we inquired about?? Just because trade radio didnt mention it it does not mean it didnt happen. You are making wild claims that the club did nothing and didnt inquire but you really know SFA.

Go have a cold milo before you get flustered. :o

Setanta going down back next year inspires great confidence at his stage of his career has been tried at both ends now and ended up finding it difficult both up forward and previously as a defender.

Reality is that like a number of teams Carlton are mid-stream and going to find it difficult to become top 4 until the new sides have received all their hand outs and a limited form of free agency comes into play to enable us to further enhance our list.

I'm not making any claims, I'm asking did we make such inquiries and if so who?

And if not, why not?

If we couldn't trade Walker then tell us why and what offers were offered so we can say "well done" or "WTF!" in response to the clubs actions.

You know SFA as well.

The only difference is I want to know what went down, you seem to be happy to be a sycophant and trust the club implicitly.

Something else that should be kept in mind here is that with the interchange limited to 3 next year I suspect we'll see rucks spending more time on the ground resting forwards rather than one on and the other on the bench.

So getting a forward that can also, with some work on his tank, push into the midfield may well be a stroke of genius from the boys.

Not much love here for getting Laidler either. People have been pissing and moaning all year about Gibbs being "wasted" across half back. We address this by trading for someone who should release him.......and all we here is "but he isn't a KPP".

Pathetic.

Most people have been pretty happy with that trade have they not?

The general consensus is that it was a good piece of business.

It addressed one need, but we have others.

I already indicated we publicly declared our intent to target a KPD, yet as expected, you only want to keep pissing and moaning.

Some players may have seriously considered our offers, and in another year or two, may decide to later accept (as with Laidler for example)

This is hardly going to happen if we act like amateurs, and start passing on these private discussions to the public. All this achieves is creating an uncomfortable situation for the players in question, for the simple purpose of appeasing a few simple-minded supporters.

Professional businesses don't operate that way - that is what we are, and that is how we will eventually attract a quality KPP.

they don't grow on trees

Didnt you know all the other teams in the comp are just feeder clubs for Carlton? Swann etc just arent smart enough to trade Grigg for Scarlett and Thornton for Harry Taylor.. let alone the most obvious trade of all which was O'Hailpin for Buddy Franklin.

Bunch of idiots running our club, burning up my membership....

Oh wait, i did that last year when Swann didnt think of getting back Josh Kennedy with pick 742.

You indicated lip service, what does that prove?

Quite uncommon that path.

The AFL are amatuers when it comes to world sport. We don't even have free agency yet.

All that's apparent here is that our players aren't professional and want to be treated with kid gloves.

Look at other major sports in the world and players are linked with other teams openly all the time.

Professional businesses don't operate that way - that is what we are, and that is how we will eventually attract a quality KPP.

Utter rubbish.

Professional businesses do operate like that.

Professional sports teams opely discuss these kind of situations constantly.
NBA, NHL, NFL, EPL etc. etc.

Should be right, injuries was the only reason we needed a KPP in 2010. This and youth. A good one would have been good but they are hard to get in trade week.

You think players are going to give us a pat on the back for starting the trend?

How other major sports operate is irrelevant to this - it is not common in the AFL to list all private discussions, and as such it is an amateur move.

If players know we are going to divulge details of private talks, then how receptive do you really think they will be to listen to offers from us?

Knowing we would target KPD's, from the word of our coach and captain, should be sufficient evidence. Look up the articles for yourself if you need to see it in writing.

Our intent should be all that matters - a list of failed targets is largely irrelevant.

I think our trade week was a failure, we did not obtain that KPP that we desperately need for our team to go forward. We also shoulda traded Jacobs earlier in the week for Adelaides Bock Compo.

I think laidler will be a handy pickup to play that Quarterback role at half back allowing Gibbs to be realeased into the midfield. also Collins to replace Houlihan once he retires.

However this is not what we desperately needed! We could have coverred these areas! we need someone to hold down CHB or CHF to allow Waite to be pushed back.

We can't make a KPP magically appear on the trade table.

If there aren't any, we can't go for one.

You'd probably be happy if we got Sellar who is a dud.

At least he's 195cm +

Correct, but what annoys me about all this is all the posters on here stating the Swann and Icke are the greatest negotiators in the business and they will just say boo and miraculously a KPP falls in our lap, then when it doesn't happen they all turn around and say well there were no KPD available.

If Icke and Swann are the messiahs of trade negotiations then why didn't a KPD just appear. The truth is they have done well when a player has selected Carlton as the club they want to go to, when this has occurred they made the trade happen. So have other clubs ie : Tarrant to Collingwood, Jacobs to Adelaide.

Basically what it all boils down to is when a player is uncontracted and chooses the club he wishes to go to he will generally get there and the club that he is leaving will generally be on the losing end of the deal.

We were in a good position with Walker, we didn't trade him and at the end of next season we could be on the losing end of the deal just like Jacobs this year. IMO Icke and Swann screwed this one up and it could bite us next year

the real failure was losing Jacobs for pick 33 and a nothing pick. terrible effort by Carlton.

we got robbie warnock for a 20 something pick - pick 33 for sauce is ok

you can still find something at 33 if you have done your homework
holding out for 14 then losing him for nothing would have been a bigger failure ?

getting collins from a club who has an early pick in the PSD is also acceptable imo

disappointed we didnt get a bigger CHB type but give bower a full year and see how he goes then

I'd be surprised if you could find any poster on here who said Swan and Icke will get us a KPD. The most ardent supporters basically said in Swan and Icke we trust and I'm still curious as to which KPD/KPP they were supposed to get anyway?

Saying we would like to get a KPD doesn't neccessarily mean there will be any out there come time to trade. Maybe they said that to see if any clubs would come out of the woodwork and look to do a deal for one of our players.

You are right in saying that a club who has an uncontracted player who nominates a new club is usually on the losing side of the deal so thats not Swan and Ickes fault.

I'm not sure how they stuffed the Walker thing up. No club bashed our door down for him. The closest was probably the Bulldogs and in the end they decided Sherman was a better option.

Now we get another year out of him and if he doesn't play well enough to make the seniors he'll probably leave at the end of next season, but if he's not in the seniors then he's not much use to us. If he plays well he may decide to stay.

You think players are going to give us a pat on the back for starting the trend?

Who cares what they think?

They are more than happy to collect a pay packet that takes the avg person 5-7 years to earn each year.

How other major sports operate is irrelevant to this - it is not common in the AFL to list all private discussions, and as such it is an amateur move.

Is it?

I've heard the Players Association make mention of other sports when they have argued for Free agency.

The AFL is the amatuer organisation on the world stage.

If players know we are going to divulge details of private talks, then how receptive do you really think they will be to listen to offers from us?

The players need to learn how to act like "true" professional athletes then.

It is relevant if they are only saying that, rather than acting upon it.

Mick Malhouse has proven that coaches will lie. So excuse me if Ratten's words don't carry that much weight in regards to looking for KPD's without solid evidence of that.
