Also for those who didn't see the last thread:

Luke Brown
Luke%20Brown.jpg
Number: 19

Position: Midfielder / Defender

Height: 181cm

Weight: 79kg

Bio: Luke is a talented, small defender or midfielder who has spent his entire junior career here at Norwood. Luke possesses plenty of leg speed and a willingness to take the game on. He is a great right foot kick, reads the game well and is a capable overhead mark for his size.
Giants set sights on Redleg Brown

Despite being overlooked in last year's national draft, Brown has made significant strides in his development this season, playing three finals in his 20 league matches with the Redlegs.
"He's been outstanding for us," Norwood operations manager Mark Ross said.
"He's improved in every facet of his game in the last 12 months. As the season has gone on he has become more confident, he can beat a man one-on-one now and is quite strong in the air.
"And he can actually play a lot of positions. He was a young midfielder who played down back and now you can put him on the wing, he can play on-ball and he can kick goals.

"He's the modern-day AFL player, he's fast and he can kick it well. That's what they (AFL clubs) look for."

"He was super in the national champs," Phillips said of Brown, a 175cm and 70kg player.
"My intention was for him to play against the two stronger teams in Vic Metro and WA, which enabled him to stay with Norwood at league level as long as possible.
"The two games he played, he played on some highly-rated players and beat them quite convincingly. That certainly elevated his chances of being drafted."

If reports are correct that we also want Luke Brown with MD pick # 2, how can this happen?
Luke is not a 17yo and therefore not on the GWS prelist list.

How can we be asking and getting him as part of this deal?

He is a prelist player (see above post). They are separate from the MD players. Think Krakour to Collingwood from last year.

Prelisted player. Nominated last year and not taken. GWS have the ability to take a certain number of them or trade them on.

I've seen a lot of Brown so thought I'd share my thoughts. Brown's a good player, very solid and dependable, and surprisingly strong. If I had to compare him to someone, it’d probably be Doughty, but a quicker, more agile version. He played the first 20 or so rounds in defence and probably averaged around 15 touches a game. He’s small but strong, uses his body very well, and has good disposal. In the last few minor round games, and again in the finals, he often got sent forward and did pretty well; he kicked multiple goals on a few occasions to display his versatility, including the first final. I’m not sure whether he’ll eventually become a midfielder, he’s got the agility to do it, but he didn’t spend any time there this season.

On league debut in Round 1 against Port, in the dying stages he slotted a goal from 50 out to give Norwood the lead, and the win. He’s very cool and calm under pressure, and he likes to take the game on. I think he's got real football smarts. He doesn't need a lot of the ball to make an impact. He’s got decent potential, I’d like to claim him.

based on his improvement this season, sounds like he would definitely go pretty high in this years draft so that would be why we are trying to get him here.

For all we know, we may have wanted to use #10 on him anyway!

I like Brown but I find that highly unlikely:p

Well 'apparently' the deal was Pick 10 + Davis Comp for Pick 15 + MD pick 2 but then changed MD pick 2 + Brown. Got a feeling we rate Brown really highly and would've used the pick 15 anyway, to try snare him. I think Brown is this years Issac Smith- the most highly rated mature age guy. He's been talked about as a possible first rounder anyway.

Having not seen Brown play, I am more than willing to go out on a limb and say he is a definite first rounder in this shallow 2011 draft.

You bloody beauty - make this happen AFC!!!

If we didn't trade for Brown we wouldn't have had a chance to pick him up in the draft because odds were GWS were going to pick him as a pre listed player.

if they add on pick #25 too it's a great Win for us! :) it's a Win either way but it'd be nice we can then use it else where.

gives us #24 #25 #32 #46 to play with
