We haven't got a dedicated thread for who we may be looking at come Trade Week, so hopefully we can keep the rumours, the facts and anything else in between, in here.

Crunch time for Caddy

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/crunch-time-for-caddy-20120905-25eus.html#ixzz25dtQPhjI

I know that others' names are currently ahead of us for Caddy, but he'd be one we may well be after.

The GCS will need to REDUCE their list size by AT LEAST 7 players this year (x4 players as their list size it self is reduced and x3 players for their mandatory changes). This means they would be unlikely to want players in any trade (eg we can't really throw Hampson + a second rd selection at them, as they probably wouldn't use the second rd selection and they would need to drop another player to fit Hampson onto their list) so IF we were to get him it would have to be for our 1st rd selection (#11 which will carry the value of #10 as Essendon use their pick on Daniher, or possibly #9 if Melbourne are forced to use #3 on Viney)

IF we were go go after Caddy with #11 I would want something coming back out way, most likely in the form of Toy, otherwise a 2nd rd selection upgrade.

Possible trades
#1. ND#11 for Caddy + Toy

#2. ND#11 + 2nd rd pick for Caddy + 2nd rd pick (roughly a 7 spot upgrade)

Is this a bit rich?
Warnock, Russell + 1st Rounder for Caddy, Toy + 2nd Round
Logic is:
Fraser has just retired, they need a tap ruckman. we need an inside mid and a skilful small defensive player.

GC have Smith, Gorringe and Hickey on their list. Hampson is surplus to their needs. The only conceivable way we could be in the hunt for Caddy would be to kiss pick 11 goodbye.

Koby Stevens in the Target list??

I would say so. Perhaps there are more likely suitors than Carlton in play though. For example, Essendon. I'm sure they'll offer Hooker and a second round pick. *tongue firmly planted in cheek*

in terms of free agency, brett maloney would be a good inside mid to pick up, help release judd a bit more, mclean and maloney would work?

thoughts on chris knights?
I like him, but he's a Half Forward or Forward Pocket at a stretch who goes through the middle.

Ala Walker, Robinson, Collins, Armfield etc... We already have a few.
If we get him for nothing (Is he restricted or unrestricted) might be a look at for depth possibly earning his way into best 22

As I said in my post, the GCS won't be looking for players IMO as they already have a list squeeze, and would need to cut more players to accomodate them.

Also your trade is basically the same as mine except you are trading Warnock for a 2nd rd selection too (forget about Russel, he is a FA). I doubt we would get their 2nd rd pick for Warnock both due to Warnock's value (hasn't set the world on firre as of yet) and their list squeeze

i have a feeling unrestricted but i could be wrong.

I havnt seen him for a while, whats his disposal like in comparison to those above?

Couldn't tell you unfortunately, can anyone else???
My experience of him is through Dream Team, 2010 was a frequent goal scorer and could rack up possies as he went through the middle.

Love trade week! always hope we walk away with another missing peice to the puzzle, really think we only need a couple positions enhanced to make us complete to have a serious chance at snatching a flag;)

I personally don't want to use our First Rounder on Caddy,
I would throw anything at them (2nd or later Round Draft Picks, Hampson, Ellard etc) to get him, But wouldn't throw our first rounder at him.

Doubt anything but a 1st round pick would be in the ballpark.

As for giving up pick 11, it depends on how our list management committee rates Caddy versus those likely available around 11. If the decision is close then the opportunity to slot Caddy in from day 1 would be a consideration.

The other point Harker and others have noted is GC need to cut their list and are unlikely to use many picks (this rules out 2nd round plus player) but it also means they can upgrade later picks that they will otherwise not use.

Sorry for my ignorance here, but given that Caddy appears to be keen on Essendon (based on what we saw last trade period), and that Essendon have a pick before us, isn't it true that we have little chance of getting him? Would love to see him at the club.

Edit: Okay, I know, should have revised this: does Ess have any traid bait for GC that would seal a deal?

Nope as they need to use that to secure daniher....
