This from the Pies Twitter,

Training update: Medhurst, Buckley, Fraser, Lockyer, N.Brown and Blair all trained with the main group this morning.

Then a few mins later

Anthony trained with the VFL group, @stephenc24, as well as a host of other Magpies(O'Bree, McCarthy, Wood, Barham)

Anyone go down and have a look?

So Reading that I reckon that N Brown or Fraser Might Come in the Side. Would like to see Buckley get a Game even if it's just 1 or 2

I like the sound of that group training with the seniors.

Rambot a lock for Reid, Fraser a big chance for Jolly, Blair for Ball.

Maybe Medders for leon's 'calf', and Buckley for Sidebuns.

I would certainly like to see if Buckley has improved since earlier in the year (nab cup he looked lost!)

Also Fraser next week, but the big one is Ball needs a rest!

Hopefully next week Essendon's rucks are much better than Adelaide's.

If his inclusion is anything more than a token 200th game then I reckon playing him against the best available opposition would give the best indication of whether he will be an asset coming into finals or not.

Seems pointless to just play him for the sake of it.
What happens if Jolly's leg falls off?
We need to have a back-up.

We've still got Wood. I rate his rucking better than Frasers, if not his around ground work.

Based on what this season? Not being arky, simply asking.

He was alright against North and Freo, he got 16 and 11 hitouts in those games, compare to Fraser who had 8, 7, 7, 9, 10 in the first 5 rounds. He was pretty lazy around the ground though which is the big strike against him, but it's not like Fraser was getting into everything either.

Fraser in both AFL and VFL form better then wood 2010

Sad really

From club reports Woods doing okay, especially in hit-outs. Fraser can't win in tap outs and is betwixt and between around the ground. Not mobile enough around the ground and not strong enough to stand up in the forward line.

^Players miss training all the time. They are on some schedule. I wouldn't read anything into it.

Bingo!

IMO it's the type of opposition where Leon is likely to kick a small bag too so he you would think he'll be in to find goal kicking form. I'm a bit suss on his kicking form at the moment .... maybe if Medders comes in, Leon can have a run around on ball to get the kicking rhythm back.

Doubt Jolly would be rested though Ball rested and Blair in is not a bad thought.

Hope Goldsack isnt out he is starting to play some great footy

Seems every time his playing well he gets injured
goldy is out has a hot spot on his fibula should only miss 1 week club said he will be straight back in next week as they are happy with the way he is going

Surely you'd still play him? :D
He'd still be our best ruckman, even if he couldn't move :thumbsu:

But seriously though, Fraser needs to be played to see if he can still give us SOMETHING in the ruck. Logically Fraser will be played this week, maybe swing Leigh Brown back to fill Reid's absence and play Fraser as the third tall/20% ruckman. I'd absoltely hate to see Jolly rested against Essendon, because Fraser returning against Hille and Ryder would most likely result in Fraser getting an absolute bath and us losing. When Essendon gain assendency in the middle of the ground they are hard to stop. And the form that our backline were in last week (albeit, all preparation disturbed by Reid! inconsiderate b*stard!) I wouldn't be 100% assured that we would be able to stop constant bombardment out of the middle. Rest Jolly next week, give Fraser a lead in game to get back up to the pace of the game this week, and let him hold down #1 ruckspot next week when Jolly rests.

MM however doesn't always take the logical approach, and I, for some reason, remember him saying something about getting a whole lot out of past performances, and Fraser giving Ryder a bath after being slaughtered on ANZAC day. (albeit no Hille). So I reckon MM may do the straight swap Jolly for Fraser and Nate Brown for Reid. But ideally I'd want the first scenario to occur. :thumbsu:

EDIT: I also think Ball will be given a rest after his tackling onslaught - Blair to come in
Possibly Sidebottom to get a rest too - Medhurst?
And if the Goldsack injury is true then maybe they will bring in Buckley as a replacement?

I always thought that people were just reactionary, and always wanted to make changes to the team based on their own biases about/against players.

Now, the week after beating the reigning Premiers comfortably, I see people suggesting as many as 5 changes, when only one is actually needed due to injury.

It's clear that people just want changes for the hell of it - Perhaps to make selection night more interesting.

Here's a novel idea - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nathan Brown in for Reid, that is all.

While I generally agree with you, we have been making unforced changes every week, and it's a big part of why we're going so well - fresh and deep with our playing reserves capable of stepping up without any need for adjustment.

I think keeping the side together unchanged would be going against the selection policy we've had all year which has been working so well. Personally I'd be in favour of making 2 or 3 changes for rest and form - it keeps people on the fringes on their toes too.

Aside from Reid > Brown, I wouldn't mind seeing

Ball > Blair, Sidebottom/Davis > Medhurst
