Mega Thread TRAINING REPORTS

Hi Caterina, how did Silvagni go in the match sims up forward?

Was Hannath tried forward as well?

There was no contested marking to speak of, the emphasis was on guys bringing it in to someone free inside 50. So it's hard to really get a line on how he'll go.
I will say though that he consistently led to the flanks, didn't straighten us up at all, at one stage he looked like he got a spray for being up on the wing chasing the ball
Hannath did very little of note, big guy, not able to impose himself at all today.

I went down to watch most of the training for the first time this year. So please, no scathing comments about my reporting
Zac D and Griff were the only ones I didn't see on the track from Fridays game. Was pleasing to see Mayne moving freely, I was a bit worried that he was sore.
Jesse C, Tanner and Silvagni were in full training, Silvagni played forward in the match sims and stayed behind afterwards to practice set shots so I think there is a pretty obvious clue there.
Zac C, Duffield, Faulks and Mora were out there for the full session but did not join in the main group. Duffield was moving freely though.
Generally the players were sharp but Ross was particularly emphasising rapid ball movement, Sheridan and Crozier were 2 young guys that copped it for not moving the ball on quickly. The sims were mainly about transition from our own kick ins to length of the field forward entries
MJ and Mzungu stood out for mine.
Walters, Ballas and Mellington in particular looked a bit off with their disposal

Very nice report.. About to add one myself but that's the same summary. Just a little more:

First spotted Morabito out of the rooms thinking it was Michie or Hill. Then double taked and actually couldnt believe it was him. First time seeing him since 2010..
Morabito was training close to full out today, without being in the main group.
Did countless of laps and little drills in between to slowly test the knees. Looks supremely fit (has been for years) and raring to go. Probably two more weeks if that and into the main group.
Zac Clarke did a fair few laps as well, looks relatively loose. Did stretch the calf out a few times but not far off. De Boer didn't do full training, instead did laps and then talk to the firness coaches.. Doesn't look too concerning.
Silvagni and Michie were used as forwards during the sims. Silvagni took a while to get involved, led too far the ground in some cases but started leading well. Lyon stopped the match sim a fair few times, with the younger guys not moving the ball quickly. This ended with the whole squad doing loads of push ups, maybe something like 30-50 who knows.. (!). Simpson was stuffed at the end of this.
Croizer is pretty much in.. Was lively and knew where to lead and has great skill, maybe a few times took a bit too long..
Mello shanked a few kicks and looked a little off. Wouldnt be surprised seeing Michie get a debut this week.

The Lake Grace Marvel is irreplaceable and I am crossing all that can be crossed that he will play on Saturday, but which of our depth players can be called upon to patch the gaping hole in the midfield?

Seriously? The Bogie from Tassie? o_O
Just doing my part as his buddy. Might need a run in the WAFL first, although he was first mentioned in front of some of the others by Ross on 6PR the other night.

Crozier and Viv should be in line for a midfield gig realistically...

Awesome, thanks for that and to Cat too.

On Crozier, was he used as a leading forward too? I think he's a viable option to replace one of the big men that we have out in the forward line because I reckon he's such a natural lead and mark fwd. I know he's not tall or heavy, so he wouldn't play 'genuine tall' as such, but he might get the job done and he's able to run through the wings too if needed. Thoughts?

i was thinking this morning that michie might play in the middle.. but it seems a stretch for a change... not very lyon-esque

I know most wouldn't agree due to his fitness levels, but..*crosses fingers*

I think his fitness problem is being vastly overstated. He was bobbing up inside 50 and rebounding from 50 in the WAFL. The only thing that might count against him was he was recently dropped to the reserves for missing a meeting.

From what I've seen of him, I agree re: his fitness.

If we lose De Boer this week (see FreoRicci's report) it would possibly see an opportunity for Michie?

Doubt it. His fitness still isn't good enough. Only if we are desperate would we see him IMO.

I can see an avalanche of 'Bad Spelling' stickers anytime someone posts about Crichton.
Doesn't matter how you spell it....

It's gone now. That's a pity. I could see the 'Bad Spelling' sticker bringing in a whole new era of Crichton jokes into play, especially if you could sticker yourself.

So you're a mod Seppo, what's going on with the stickers. Went from like to the full pre-primary teacher's kit, buck down to a few. Is Chief having second thoughts?

He was still running around, but he didn't seem to get as much of the ball in the last quarter while I was watching.

Crozier and Shero (in particular) seemed to get a bit more of the ball in the last. Tabs was taking some good marks.

Saw Motlop and a lot of Kelvin Lawrence. Not a heap of Michie. Some, but not as much as I did in the second and third. Whether this points to luck or fitness I have no idea.

If MDB has to miss then I reckon Lachie would have the inside running at a starting spot in preference to Viv. Croz might squeeze into MDB's spot (different role obviously) and Michie could end up a sub.

Can't afford to lose MDB as well, so hopefully he'll come up fine.
