Popped into to training this morning (saw about half of it, seemed to mainly be the mid field crew) - some random thoughts.

- Jy was certainly acting like a leader - players wander on and off the field and in and out of drills, Jy seemed to come back to do a kicking/decision making drill with Lazarro and one of the other draftees - was giving pointers etc - also Lazzarro seem incapable of kicking off one step, quite strange.
- Phillips does indeed look like a ready made footballer, he has a low centre of gravity and a odd, very compact way of running.
- Kyron Hayden must have a body fat percentage in the negatives - the man is just so toned. Speaking of which in the 'evade the other person' drill it was Bonar Vs Hayden to the cry of 'Here come the bulls' from the rest of the players. Bonar had a very nice fend off in one of the passes
- Stephenson didn't get caught once in the the 'evade the other person' drill, ( it's the drill in the Jy and Scott photo above) he has more dance steps that Jy
- Draftees were doing the same drill but without the tackling, it ended if you tagged the other person.
- Will Walker was out there the whole time, doing some mark, turn, decision making, kick drills.
- Seeing Phoenix run next to Boomer is amusing - they are basically the same height, but Phoenix is a stick next to him.
- Ford seemed to spend so time one on one with who I assume with Younie on leading and marking
- Various other players wandering around but not doing the drills I saw, these included Atu, Zurhaar, Taylor, Larkey, Tarrant
Also dropped in. Players doing a lot of laps before starting the main training. Bonar was struggling towards the end so endurance at this point still a slight issue. Correct about Kyron being ripped. Literally rocking an 8 pack.
Only point I’d disagree on actually was that I thought Lazzarro’s kicking was brilliant. Nailed all the passes I saw, some bullet like, and his technique was more natural than many others. Really feel like we’ve got ourselves a player there.

I saw Nick Larkey on the ch 10 news tonight, looks like he has spent a bit of time and effort in the gym since seasons end, hope his ankle is 100%

Lazzaro looked super clean and one touch in his highlights videos. Was that the impression at training as well?

This reminds me of the moderately important tax case, Commissioner of Taxation v Cooper (1991). Justice Lockhart summarises the case thus:

Cooper's coach was Roy Masters and at the end of the 1979 season he provided him with a letter about what he needed to do in the offseason (quite possibly he wrote it several years later in support of the case but whatever) including the following dietary advice:

Full judgement here: https://www.ato.gov.au/law/view/document?docid=JUD/91ATC4396/00001

Cooper lost by the way, eating additional food in this circumstance was not closely enough linked to his income-earning activities to be deductible.
Whilst meritorious in its own way, Bob Cooper is much better known for receiving the equal longest suspension in Rugby League history - 15 months - for breaking the jaws of Greg Cook and Lee Pomfret in a brawl in a match for Wests against Illawarra in 1982.

Jim Comans was in charge of the judiciary at the time and was determined to clean up the game, earning the nickname ‘hanging judge’.

Cooper took it to the Supreme Court and lost so he clearly doesn’t have a great record as a litigant.

He reminds me of Sam Mitchell the way he runs to a ball up scenario.

Yes it was. Highly energised kind of player as well from what I saw. Never standing still, always on the tip of his toes and ready to move. Very agile player.

Yeah I meant to agree with Lebit there as well regarding Phillips' running. Has an odd running style. Almost like his quads are too big.
Will make him a powerful runner however.

Out of the new runners, who prior to main training were grouped together doing laps, towards the end when they started to spread out it was Paddy Walker well in front, followed by Lazzaro. Phillips a bit further back leading the others with his unusual running style. I'd say however that there's no problems whatsoever with his endurance.

Hopefully when they announce the intra club they do it on a weekend to maximise fans coming down

or at least open weekend training sessions
Club is still under strict carona restrictions so doubt we'll have anything major open to the public for a long time.
Not allowed to take photos with public or sign anything atm.

Having a look this morning

Tommy Campbell is training. First thing they've done is a lap where they stopped every 40m or so and had to do some form of dance or exercise as a group. Every stop they came up with a new one and had to do it in sequence. Phillips chose burpees because of course. Spicer couldn't pick one to do and the S&C coach had to invent one for him

Spicer is so small, smaller than the highlights make him look. He will need heaps of time for mije

LDU looks imperious. I'd suggest he's very ready to take a step or two up this season. Has probably flown somewhat under the radar due to Jy's emergence but he's going to be really good again

I really like the look of Lazzaro. He does everything the proper way, every kick has the head over the footy, the follow through does what it's supposed to do - he is very impressive first up

Any questions - fire away

Xerri ? Comben ?

Xerri ? Comben ?

Xerri is training. Doing all the drills from what I can see

Haven't been able to see Comben but honestly he could have turned up in my cornflakes this morning and I wouldn't have known

TT finally participating in the main drills?

Counter idea: he needs to become so fast that no one ever can tackle him

No Comben, Ziebell, Cunners, Garner, LMac, Goldy, Atley, Polec, Walker, Anderson, Dyson, Hayden, Turner or Dumont.

Atu running laps and doing basic ball work due to injured thumb.

They were doing a bunch of basic drills when I was there, easy skills stuff like handballing, then short and medium range kicking to leading targets, before moving into longer ball movement drills.

Thomas was out there but i overheard that he was not going to be doing everything just yet. Gotta say, he looked a class above.

Of the newbies I was most impressed by Ford and Powell. Both move really well and their execution was top notch.

Comben has been there though sporadically?
