Skills sessions again to today with a similar focus to what has been going on previously . This generally involves groups doing either kicking or handball skills and or a ball handling drill involving picking the ball up off the ground and getting a handball or kick away. Once they have worked on this for 25 minutes or so they move onto a full length of the ground drill.
I have to say they look over the slight lack of polish they showed in the first skills session last week. The ball control and speed of the full ground drill was pretty sharp.
Just on a few players , Lucas and Hislop where on running duties only due to recovery from their off season operations.
Johns was on light duties today but when he was running there didn't appear to be anything too serious wrong with him. I have to say he is looking as fit as i have ever seen him. He has dropped a bit of the bulk.
Jetta did some of the skill work and then some solid running.
To answer a few questions on players that where raised last week , Lonergan is in great shape. Houli as you would expect looks good. Winderlich the same. All three have been performing strongly on the track.
Being November it is very early on in the scheme of things but like i said the other day , it is hard to pick out who is doing the best because i have not seen one player who looks out of shape and apart from the very first skills session (which was a bit scratchy) training has been very sharp and the skills pretty good.
I may not have a report again until next Wednesday as i cant get to Friday morning's run this week and i will be at work when they are doing skills on Monday.

Thanks Ant.

How is Gumby looking. Bulking up at all?

Sorry... Just read your answer to that from your thread on last week's training:

Gumby hasnt bulked up much (as expected as it has only been 8 weeks) but his fitness seems to be very good as indicated in his 3km time trial result.

Thanks!

Look at bachar!

what a tank

Great pics ari18 - did you get to chat to any of them?

Windy Hill grass looks a little dry. Looks like they've got some newer balls now for training.

How was Slats?

There not his picture's ;)
They are from Bomber Blitz , a friend of mine took them. People really should add where they got the images from......

For those commenting on the oval it has been cut back really short and they have had the scarifier on it so that the summer grass can start to grow through. It looks worse than it is , the ground still has a little give in it and the grass cover is good even though it looks a bit patchy.

Am I the only one that thinks Bachar looks like he's trimmed down?

Nope.

He certainly has from that photo.

How about Lonergans legs.....

Gumby is just like a big colt, all arms and legs.

Gonna take him a few years to build up.

Jobe also looks a lot leaner.

Chears Ant, love the work on BB too, you and all the hard working faithfull. Good to see skills work this early on, nice change. I've noticed that the previous years under sheedy that it's hand over to to the fitness staff and see you boys in a few months. Hope the early skills work pays off.

huh? I thought this was strictly Bombers supporters? I don't mind, but wasn't that the go?

It is and Daniel follows 2 teams.

He is an Essendon member, attends training if he is in Melbourne and has agreed that none of the info he sees in here will go any further.

I don't think Gumby's helped by having such long limbs.

Some guys naturally look bigger because their build is mainly body, Gumby's exactly the opposite.

Thankfully, that works to his advantage as a big reach is a massive advantage ina marking contest.

Also, for the role Gumby's going to play next year, it's going to involve a lot of presenting and endurance rather than wrestling in the goal square.

What it does mean though, is that as good as Gumby can be now, he'll be able to add another dimension to his game in a few years time. Exciting stuff.

As for Jobe, I think he's just going to keep getting better and better.
