Truth be told, back then we weren't in a position to keep him. Selling him kept us going financially cos things were very tight.

Of course a lot of people were angry that he left, myself included but that was more the way he left by handing in a transfer request on deadline day.

He's not the messiah & won't carry the team on his shoulders, but he's a winner & his experience will be very valuable.

Surprised if there's much hate at all from United fans considering everything he helped win

I know I take the piss when I say it but honestly there's no way we will ever be able to keep up with the Manchester Clubs. Even Arsenal and Liverpool will outspend us. We focus on selling and then never buy. It's suicide. We were lucky last transfer period. That won't happen again.

I suppose good thing he isn't. Sandro and (presumably) Giroud are the replacements. Sigurdsson in midfield also adds a lot of goals.

Don't see VVD going to Everton. Just doesn't make any sense for him to go there.

Sigurdsson would be a good signing but again they're just going for "the best of the rest" type players and I don't think he's any better than Barkley.

Still think the loss of Lukaku is being underestimated, he was their only world class player and they have replaced him with a human potato. They're still 7th at best for me and I'm definitely not worried about any sort of Merseyside power shift.
