Not when they strengthen a rival. Arsenal would have sold Sanchez to PSG if he was prepared to go there.

Do you think we won't strengthen regardless? Last time we missed out on Alexis we bought Aguero instead, that didnt work out too badly.

Maybe even wait and sign Alexis on a free next season. We've got an extra £50m to improve our squad and Arsenal have £50m less.

It's not going to make a difference. FSG are not prepared to discuss a sale at any price.
We'll see I guess. You hear that sort of rhetoric all the time.

Personally think if that is their genuine position they are fools. Would they knock back £200m? £300m?

Also with Alexis it will depend on whether there is a chance of a new contract, and how much he is willing to rock the boat.

It's hard to get a read on it. Yesterday I posted that there is gossip of something happening on that front in the next few days.

But he could make it very easy or very difficult for Arsenal over the next couple of weeks.

He scored free kick goals and 8 of his 13 assists came via set pieces. He doesn't have a target man to hit at Everton.
Scored against all bar Spurs from the top 6 last season.
Of his assists a lot are headers yes, he's hit up Olsson and Mawson more than he did Llorente with headers so you can't tell me he can't put a pass on the head of Williams or Jagielka.

Not worth 45m but will be a good signing imo.

It make no sense sellin him now.
If we did wed pay overs for whoever we got and they'd be at best half the player cout is.
Next season market should return to normality and wed have time to get quality.

Alexis looks like a he could be a real campaigner if he stayed this year. He acted like a spoilt brat last season, imagine this season when he doesn't want to be there how toxic he could make the dressing room. If I was Wenger I'd get rid of him

If he really agitates for a move, he could still get his way it seems. It is difficult to predict from here, but so far Wenger seems more resolute than he was with the likes of RvP, Nasri, Cesc etc (albeit during times when we had more financial constraints).

The 'abdominal strain' is suspicious though, very coincidental timing. It's interesting that it happened right on the eve of the new season and right after there was conjecture on when he'd return to training. There's more to play out on this one I feel.

Being a World Cup year I feel all the power is with the clubs. Players are treading a fine line if they sit out or just don't give their all at training and games.

Have you seen Williams attempt to score? Might as well have Shaun Wright Phillips in the box attempting to head the ball.

Whilst true, it probably doesn't apply as much to Alexis. He's Chile's best player and is revered there, he'll be a walk up start regardless.

If we get rid of Alexis now, even for 50m, it leaves us with a massive gap up front, where I know I'm not comfortable with Theo Walcott filling.

If we were able to get Lemar, I reckon we would have happily sold Alexis to PSG or somewhere else.

I think the club seem very reluctant to let him just sign for City, which IMO is the right call.

Geez, how many Cl winners or finalists to Stoke have in their squad now?

The only other time FSG have said that they are not interested in selling under any circumstances was Suarez to Arsenal and they were true to their word.

You here clubs say players are not for sale all the same time. Not for sale at any price is a completely different statement.

Reckon this is about right. Villa fans said this to us when we bought him, and it wasnt until he played for us that we appreciated just how good he was. We said the same to Everton when he left, and I don't think too many of them were keen.

Missed no more than 5 games in a season for the last 15 seasons to. On the way out, but a good pro to have at a club.

Didn't realise he wouldn't be able to score FKs when he's at Everton. Are the goals you guys play with a lot smaller? Are your CBs really short?

It's idiots talk. If course there is a price that they'll be prepared to sell.

Sterling was not for sale at any price not that long ago.

The club did not say that Sterling was not for sale at any price at all. They said he was not for sale which is a completely different rhetoric. Once it became clear that Sterling wanted unrealistic wages on a new contract the club was always going to sell him to anyone who would pay 50m for him. Coutinho is a player worth hanging on to - Sterling was not.

It was said a number of times about Sterling.

Would Liverpool knock back £500m for Coutinho?

If not then the "not for sale at any price" statement is nothing more than hyperbole.

If yes then I would be inclined to believe he's not for sale at any price. And that FSG are morons.

Sterling had two years to go on this contract, and if he left on bosman or whatever the tribunal could decide a far lower fee than what we would've gotten for a sale otherwise. We weren't even looking at 25-30 mil for him at the start of the window and City came in with 50 mil, which is fine

Coutinho has 5 years to go on his contract with no release clause, circumstances are so different that it's idiotic to compare them

It was never said that Sterling was not for sale at any price. Big difference between the 2 statements.

Selling Coutinho a year down the track is clever business. Allows time to identify and chase the targets you want. Value likely to go up after playing for Brazil at Russia 2018.

It wasnt so much of a comparison of the two. More just shows that football clubs say things for a reason. And it's best not to take everything they say at face value.

Do you believe Liverpool would sell if they got a £500m offer? Or that he genuinely is not for sale at any price.
