I mean he's not an academy player, let's just clear that up. He was bought from Atleti at 16.

Thank you for the groundbreaking development. He joined the academy squad when he was signed. So if he is sold, he is seen as an academy player per the rules and will be 100% profit.

I would hope not considering the initial fee was £420k and he signed his first professional contract the following year after he signed for United. But we’ve been run by fools for a decade so nothing surprises me.
Most of our kids that get poached have a sell on or buy back clause. Protects us a bit if the player does end up being worth something.

I think we made £7m on Sancho.

Bah has signed with us and has been loaned out to Lens. We've also bought Christian McFarlane from NYCFC just to boil a bit more piss.

Still hoping for a midfielder, and Cambiasso looking a bit more likely than before. Although possibly dependent on how we get on tomorrow.

Signed for 19M with a sell on clause, so we'll be taking a loss.

Potter's had a good month to look at him, and he can't get into the team with our injuries, so pretty clear he doesn't rate him.

Presume the money gets added to budget for the summer or trying to sign Ferguson now.

But this is one of the reasons why Steidten is gone.

The usual practice for sell on clauses is a % of the profit. Not a % of the sale fee. Eg buy a player for 20m, sell for 120m. Sell on clause 20% of 100m profit (20m).

It would be a silly club that agrees to part ways with 20% of a transfer when a player is a huge flop and is already sold at a huge loss. IE buy a player for 50m, sell for 10m (40m loss already) and still cough up a 2m sell on clause.

Agreed, but have read conflicting opinions online that the sell on percentage isn't tied to any profit.

Again, this is probably one of the main reasons Tim is gone. He was desperate to sign a player from Brazil last summer no matter what.

When was the last real Australian 'teenage sensation' to make it big? Heard it about these guys.

Massimo Luongo
Daniel Arzani
Garang Kuol
Nestory Irankunda
Thomas Waddingham
man 2 of them are still teenagers and 1 just turned 20

that's just Aussie sports media. Hyperbole sells

truth be told, the only good Aussies overseas appear to be the obscure ones now a days

Waddingham literally just moved to the Championship and scored on debut.

Arzani did a knee not long after joining which didnt help. However A-league teenagers/young stars generally are below the level required. Look at all the past ones that have gone across like the originals in Nathan Burns, Bruce Djite etc.

and in the case of luongo, a championship/league one career is hardly anything to be sneezed at
Correct me if Im wrong but didn't Bresciano play in some bottom level competitions for years until getting a breakthrough in his mid 20's?

Understandably, data is much more widely available but feels like kids of today aren't willing to push through and play and wait for a break through.

Daniel Arzani is 26, has had one crack at football overseas and went, * it, and returned home. Injuries or not, seems like a lot do this

When I said 'made it big' I'm talking about Aussie players who have played consistently in the Premier League or similar standard. We've heard the teenage sensation claim made before and it hasn't panned out. There's probably 100 or more youth players at PL clubs that don't get these hyperbolic headlines.

If you look at the recent Socceroos squads it's a collection of second and third tier players. Mathew Ryan is a decent keeper and Aaron Mooy did ok in lower PL teams. Before that we are looking at Kewell, Viduka and Cahill.

He was in teams bouncing around serie A and B for the first part of his career but that's when Serie A was better than the PL
