I’ve given up upon the hope that Travis Cloke can be our star player in the forward half. He has too many faults to carry such a title: His kicking for goal is atrocious, his contested marking leaves a lot to be desired, and he goes missing during critical times, and then plays well in trash-time period, eg the Melbourne game…

I think swapping Nathan Brown into the forward line, and Travis Cloke into defence, will be a better option. Seeing Nathan Brown as a key-forward was exciting: he is a strong contested mark, always has a presence, and his kicking action for goal looks solid.

Maybe Travis Cloke as a key-back could be an option. Because I think our forward line without him will look much more balanced and effective.

HF: Didak – Dawes – Thomas
F: Medhurst – Brown - Anthony

I wouldn't throw him down back, but yesterday was a prime example of him going missing. Although he got 19 possesions or whatever it was, we need him to stay at home, and kick our bags of goals. All his possesions came up the ground, until there was 5 minutes to go, he decided to put his kicking boots on, when the game was off, and there was no pressure.

You wanted Didak sacked or traded and now you think Cloke is not up to standard as a forward???????? Too funny.

Why not? Maybe not next round though!

But yes wasn't Brown originally a CHF anyway? I like him much better there. He doesn't look so out of place.

When Cloke goes missing it's usually due to a lot of pressure. It might be an idea to swap him around the ground a bit.

Nope, he was an under-18 All-Australian Fullback. His brother Mitch was a forward.
Can play deep in defence or attack. Brown has attracted significant interest after several standout performances in the under-18 national championships, earning him All-Australian full-back honours. Quick off the mark, his 20m sprint and repeat sprints were a highlight at draft camp, recording 2.91sec (top 3 per cent) for the 20m sprint and 25.07sec (top 8 per cent) for the repeat sprint test.

If anyone was at the club night last thursday you would have heard Clokey say he was under specific instruction to play further up the ground leading out to the wings. He stated this was his preferred position and they were grooming Anthony or Dawes to fill in the Rocca position deeper.

As for his kicking for goal, i actually think it has improved immensely this year.

I think Cloke is an excellent CHF, but I agree with theClokes that he could be a great CHB. He has the stamina, the agression, the height and the strength, just a question as to wether he has the speed. Why not swing changes and add strings to players bows? If Rocca comes back fit and firing, and Dawes starts kicking bags, and Anthony continues to grow in stature each game, why not?

Cloke's goalkicking isn't good enough for a key forward. In fact, its a disgrace and his contested marking leaves alot to be desired also.

He's overrated by Collingwood supporters IMO. Could be a great CHF but he isn't anywhere near it yet. His goals kicked in junk time when the game is won is a habit of his.....goes missing when the pressure is on.

yer you right, he is a hack. Cant play at all. I mean anyone can win a copeland trophy. I have never really repsonded your your posts Clokes because they are so idiodic that its not worth my time but on this occassion you have out done yourself. You continually prove that you know very little about the game.

While he has not been in red hot form he has been playing a different role and leading up the ground(you know like a traditional CHF) clokes job from now on will be to take 10 marks a game, have 15 plus touches and kick 2-3 goals. He will get better each week. Watch this space....

He would get rings run round him on the back-line, too slow (for a defender) and no sideways movement. You need to look at opposition defenders to compare and he doesn't measure up. He's a very big man, in-case we haven't noticed.
There is only one direction he should be moved, and that is closer to goal where his can put fear into opposing sides/coaches. Bomber will be quite happy to see him leading up the boundary line next week taking chest marks 70mts from goal.
Cloke is a gun forward, make no mistake. He is a victim of our obsessive and outdated "circle work" style of game plan, but that's another story.

Im pretty certain you posted something similar last year and i answered with lol

This year im changing it to are you on crack?

In a perfect world situation it is not such a terrible idea. We have a lot of young CHF options and our long term defence is still a bit of a mystery barring N Brown who also looks promising foward.

The major downfall is that besides Cloke not one of our young fowards consistantly present a target for the midfielders to deliver too. Anthony almost never does which is why he is such a low possesion foward. He is a very good option but not a great target. Ried has shown the ability to create a target high up the ground on a lead but also gone absent from games. He also has a lot of the same faults as Cloke. Dawes has shown he is a good feild kick but is slow, leads to the wrong area and can't hold marks over head he is a very very poor target. Brown looked like he had good presence and created a target today but it was very limited game time. What also must be remembered is anything any of the other fowards have shown they have done so in a peripheral role with Cloke being the key target. All would struggle far more without Cloke there.

Jack's still learning the game and how to become a target. Clokes' been playing for a long time now. He should be getting 50-60 goals this year and 70+ next year, imo if he wants to become a good CHF. We'll see.

I just dunno why Cloke gets such a bad rap so often. Yestderday he kicked two goals, no behinds, had no clangers, laid three tackles and had 20 disposals. Okay he's not Lockett or Ablett, but he's only 22 for christ's sake. Give the kid a break.

Cloke has 4 in 2 games

Anthony 6 in 2 games

medhurst 4 in 2 games

I dont really see where move Cloke to back line comments is coming from, and as good as it was seeing Anthony kick 4 yesterday im still not sold on his ability to play as a number 1 or 2 target in the forward line
