Rodney Eade on 'Before the Bounce' said that he has heard rumours that Fremantle were interested in him. He mentioned him in the same sentence over his doubts about Paul Hasleby staying.

Basically I got the impression he was hinting at rumoured trade between the two.

Which I think is clearly a ridiculous trade that no club would benifet from.

I do however feel that Johnstone will be shopped around, from over here I got the impression he is not very happy at the moment.

If we trade Hase to Melbourne, I would want their pick #21 and their pick #4. I do not want Johnstone. They can have Hase and pick #7. And that's only if Hase actually wants to leave.

For some reason I thought Johnstone was younger than Haselby - turns out he's not, he'll be 28 :eek: next year! He's not exactly an angel off the field either. I can't see any value in going for someone like him.

First round pick for him.

Take it or leave it :)

I don't care if you think it's unfair because I quite frankly don't want to get rid of him :)

Sounds like a deal to me (leaving it that is), who else can we not trade? :D

I've become quite attached to pick 7 in the last 3 weeks, really don't want to see him go, he looks like a real player.

And we don't want Hasleby. Trapper is a better player, period.

For **** sake we don't need Johnstone(Melb) Johnson(melb) we need youngsters who haven't shaved yet still boys with all our picks

AND harvey plays Byron , Foster & Brock in the midfield.

I should have known we'd be linked with him after I said he was the softest, laziest footballer I'd ever seen earlier this season.

Maybe I should try using my powers for good:

Joel Selwood is the most useless 1st year player I've seen in a long time. There. We should be getting a call from the Cats sometime next week.

Can you read? Clearly everyone here has said they dont want him. And anyway just cos one feeble Dees fan doesnt wanna see him go doesnt mean he isnt. There is no way he is worth a 1st round pick anymore.

On the topic though i think he could be handy, but we wouldnt want to give up much. If we got him we would surely have to play him in the role across half back that McLeod, Burgyone etc play. This would release Blacky to add to our midfield again and free him from that position.
NO WAY IF WE HAVE TO PART WITH PICK 7 THOUGH.

Hypothetical

If hase wants out....there is a strong chance he may go to Tigers or Blues for nothing via PSD

& if Bell retires....

Why not Johnstone > Hasleby

I'm not against it totally......if Hase & Bell are gone anyway...hypothetically speaking of course

You're right Sabre, at his best, Johnstone would be a good addition- unfortunately his best is sprinkled between games where he goes missing just like a certain player called Hase (maybe Harves could rectify this?). As everyone is saying, if Hase and Bell go or even if just Hase goes, it would be good to replace their creativity with a seasoned player or our window might close for a year. That would allow the youngsters to develop without too much added pressure whilst giving us a different sort of midfielder, with excellent skills, decent pace and the potential to hurt the opposition by himself....

BUT only if we dont have to give much for him or Hase is going anyway

I'm not totally against it either.

Johnstone is a long kicking skillful midfielder if Haselby want's out we could do allot worse.

Given his age, and tendency to flash in and out of games, we could do a lot better as well.

Do we really want to replace Hase (should he go) with someone the same age or older?

Well obviously I would prefer someone like Chris Judd....

But he is percieved as injury prone and lazy in the football public, what do you believe to be a realistic expectation for him?

First round draft pick? Maybe if we get very lucky....

I honestly believe that Murphy has a greater value than Haselby at the moment.
As I said without endorsing the deal....We could do allot worse.

You honestly have no clue!

Compare Haselby's output this year (let alone over the course of their respective careers) and you'll get an idea of their respective values.

I think some people take the youth preference thing way too far. Murphy is younger, but that is the only thing he has on Hase.

Our leading possession and clearance winner versus a guy who couldn't even crack a regular senior birth is what we are comparing here. There is no way that Murphy can be seen as having more value.

Roundhouse..You are the king of over reaction..

Murphy's value has always been in his potential in a side that give's him a crack. We all know slow midfielder's are hardly the rage of late, not to mention injury prone ones.

Now before you jump to any more wrong conclusions, have no stage have I said that Murphy is a better player than Haselby.

From what has been in the media, Haselby wants more money than Freo are prepared to offer. If another club is willing to pay him the $400K+ that he reportedly wants, surely they must rate him reasonably highly and of some value?
