Of course Varcoes absence, along with Selwood and Corey's, played a real role in the loss last night. Only nuff nuff's with an irrational hatred of Varcoe would argue otherwise.

Varcoe is a quality player - as was clearly evident in his universally celebrated 2009 'break out' season. This season he has been learning a new role and probably carrying an injury. He hasn't been great, but neither has he been as bad as some make out.

I am very happy to see the club recognise how important he will be to our Flag tilt and rest him. Also happy that they have shown patience with him during a form slump. He has done more than enough to have earned some good faith.

You serious? Starting up the hype??? Is there an antidote for you?

Did we loose because Varcoe didn't play?

That's your dumb suggestion..... hardly, given his 2011 form!

Lack of a power forward is our most obvious problem, not the lack of another 180cm, 80kg lightweight.

Essendon didn't seen particularly troubled by their lack of a power forward. They ran all over us start to finish. Usually when we play badly we look really bloody slow. We have very few players who play with a natural pace and having 2 of them out of the side last night hurt us given the way the game was played. It didn't hurt us as much as having Smithy and Selwood out but it did hurt us. We were too tall and too slow.

Not even worth analysing to that extent if you ask me. The intent between the teams was stark. Nothing would have helped us last night except for some harder running, harder contested footy etc. Perhaps if Steve Jonhson and others didn't miss very gettable goals early, Essendon's confidence may not have been as good as it was all night. Who knows??
Essendon played the best game that club has played for years... who cares. The sun even shines on a dog's a$$ some days.

Haven't agreed with you much ( if at all on this thread ) but 100% on this one.

Not all that worried myself.

He's in our best 22. We missed him, but not as much as Corey & Selwood.
Even as a sub, he's a better choice than Gilles (WTF was that all about last night?).

Even if he only gets 10 - 15 disposals they're normally quality and creative and his abilty to find a target in the F50 was something we surely lacked last night.

Also he's along way ahead of Motlop at the moment, who showed some talent (the goal in the 3rd qtr was brilliant) but was well, well off the pace of the game and dare I say it Varcoe's ability in pressure situations is miles ahead of him.

I didn't suggest anything, merely set the bait. That was the dumb thing. But you jumped. This is farcical now.

I'm looking forward to Varcoe's and Corey's return next week, and then Selwood's, and hoping TV's form will shut you up on this issue.

Personally I just hope for team wins, not dumb bias claims about an individual that makes no sense based on his overall 2011 form.

Let's see him string a few together before claiming him as saviour, is that to much to ask????

again, the pot and kettle come out.

targetting 1 player out of 47...why?

Supposed to be a star, has done nothing apart from a quarter against the Blues and played well against the Crows at home in a runaway win.
That's why!!!!
Not to hard to understand???

I am really curious about this one. Can someone please explain the new role to me? Seriously. He ain't playing FB or ruck.

Super Decoy role. He demands the opposition best tagger, because he is our most creative and dangerous player, and he deviantly and tactically takes himself and his tagger away from the action, while leaving it open for Stokes to take on his former role virtually unopposed.

How come you haven't noticed this already.

The thing is, this will change when the opposition don't rate him any more, and come September, he'll be the difference.

Get serious, as you fullwell know, some have him in our top 6 players.

And for your imformation, he ain't one of the kids!

He is definitely in my top 6 list of must keep players.
Along with Selwood, Taylor, Menzel, Hawkins, Simpson, we can build our future around these guys.

:thumbsu:
absolutely agree
Guthrie, Christensen, Hunt, Duncan, Menzel, Simpson, Vardy, Hawkins, Varcoe, Taylor, Selwood, Motlop, Brown, Hogan and Cowan are the future & the guys who will make it and although they haven't yet done anything, you'd probably throw Smedts, Gillies, Horlin-Smith and Walker into the mix. Walker in particular is another bloke that could end up being our best player later on. I'm already excited about the future...you gotta remember too, once some of the senior players step away in 3 years time then those new boys would have then had their 50 or so games under the belt and matured to a point where the transition is seemingless. We could have developed them a year ahead had Bomber Thompson played more of them last year and already notched up 15+ games instead of the 5 or so but luckily all players except Chappy, Varcoe and Wojak have had their best pre-season's ever so injuries have been good to us thus far.

Not when they've been in the senior team for 5 years, and been at the club for 6.

which one is it? 5 or 6 seasons:D I wouldn't constitute just being at the club means you start playing senior footy before you actually make your debut.
This same thread will be made about Mitch Brown in 3 years time because his injuries will be forgotten and his disposals is what will make him a good player in many people's eyes
