Not a fan of songs triple j wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot barge pole at the time making the count but he we are looking at the Veronicas, John Farnham and Daryl Braithwaite polling well.

Augie March? I think One Crowded Hour will scrape in.I think of these, only the Powderfinger songs, Jet, Gotye, Vance Joy and Flume will feature.
Masters Apprentices are on the shortlist, so it's all-time rather than just the last 50 years, which makes the likes of Friday On My Mind and The Real Thing (Russell Morris) very notable omissions. You can make an argument about voting demographics not favouring them, but they're both iconic songs which would've featured IMO, especially Friday On My Mind. The rules are that only songs released post 1975 - i.e. the 50th anniversary of 2JJ - are eligible. Otherwise, The Easybeats, The Seekers and Master's Apprentices would also be glaring omissions.

While I accept it's vulnerable, I do hope Buy Me a Pony makes the cut. A band with JJJ in their DNA, the first Australian number one, and a tune that still sounds fresh (to me), I think it deserves its place.anyone reckon some local yearly #1s will miss the cut?
Hoops looks the most vulnerable, only #46 in the 2010s decade countdown a few years back
then you have Wish You Well (Fanning) & Say Nothing (Flume) having to compete with other #1s more likely from those artists, although recency will help the latter. I think the rest for various reasons will scrape enough votes to have a shot. Buy Me a Pony might be vulnerable, as it didn’t make the 2009 all-time and there are more subsequent Spiderbait singles to compete with now compared to 1996 (depends how many or few got shortlisted). A lot of the others are still relatively defining tunes for those artists in the main.
that’s all without a glance at how they all fare on modern streaming
Talk is Cheap did ok in the decade countdown a few years ago so I’ve given it the benefit of the doubt, probably still has enough of a following to sneak in.While I accept it's vulnerable, I do hope Buy Me a Pony makes the cut. Of the eligible number one songs, I think only two will miss out - Amazing and Talk is Cheap.
Probably way off...I've no idea what the kids think is cool these days.
once Beyonce made the countdown, it basically opened it up to any mainstream pop artist.
there will be a plethora of those kind of tracks in this one haha.
wonder if any artist will get the Ruel treatment of the Decade countdown, I reckon G-Flip will most likely.

Amazing might be my fave of the local winners (besides Gotye). Probably a good shot at 81-100. Might slip though the cracks with the present demo, but a respectable oldie of broad appeal that would’ve soundtracked a lot of memories for older voters.
exactly, as I indicated earlier in the quoted post I don’t think they are a great example of a That Song band. Buy Me a Pony never had to contend with those three subsequent singles cycles in 1999, 2001 & 2004, too much cannibalising. Thanks for confirming that three were shortlisted. An update on this - I was under the impression cover songs weren't eligible but have since learned that Black Betty is one of the three songs listed for Spiderbait. That's likely to steal some votes from Buy me a Pony.
I ignored him for 15 years because I wrote off any artist who won talent quest type shows (Idol, Voice, etc). The only Shannon Noll song that should be considered is Lift, utter banger that
Same. I'm from the era of the original release and it's never really done anything for me.I wouldn't even vote for the original.
One of the most godawful songs ever written IMHO, no idea why it keeps 'coming back' every decade or so.
His hottest 100 list was clearly done by a staffer.See DJ Albo's picks are in.
That dog song.
Jeepers.
her first couple of songs were all over mainstream radio back in the day, there was a song with Flo Rida I remember vaguely, but I agree, surely there's 100 better songs out there than anything she's done haha
Don't think it's the same at all, it's a very good song from 6 years ago?I think I’ll have to add Thelma Plum to this, crazy the amount of votes I’ve seen “Better in Blak” receive especially from the triple j curated ‘celeb’ votes
