On the contrary, I reckon it’s exactly what he intended.

Since I never plan to watch or read it, I did look through a synopsis of what happened.

The idea of a queen descending into madness because she felt that people loved her lover - who had a better claim to the throne than her - more than her and then saying “If they don’t love me, they’ll ******* fear me” should have been seen a mile out as soon as it was clear that that whiny little bastard was not a bastard at all. From that point there were only three narratives - either he becomes king (******* lame, but would have been the “good” ending), she kills him (bad ending) or he kills her and gets ****-canned for it (plot twist ending). There was no resolution otherwise...and that was the last thing to be resolved.

i think the reason they didn’t make the season longer or do another season was precisely due to the fact that they knew the turn was coming and they didn’t want to dwell on it for another two episodes (which is what the story called for).

The end was written from the start. And the end is lame because the resolution isn’t decisive - it’s a compromise in a world that specifically states there are none.

Which is just the kind of subversive for no reason garbage I expect from Martin. And why I’m glad I never kept watching it.
Analysis from someone who hasn't read or watched the series. I'm here for it. Surprised one of the thousands of mainstream newspapers and online pop culture sites haven't picked up this idea to differentiate their boring reviews from the rest. Haha.

Yeah, see this is why Tories win government, they will abandon any and all their beliefs for power, and wealth, exploiting peoples inherent greed and selfishness, whereas Labor (generally) tries to stay true to the core beliefs. New Labour was the British version of what you are suggesting, they gained power....great, but screwed over those they had traditionally represented.
What is the point of gaining the ability to make changes for the better if you don't intend to use it?

It just seems to me that Labor's problem was a marketing issue. The tax policies they had were fine in isolation but they went ahead and stacked them in the one cycle to gain a mandate. It would have been better to bring about reform in a more gradual way. An even better approach would have been to, for example, pivot negative gearing to first home owners on their owner-occupied property for 10 years (when most interest in paid on a mortgage; with appropriate caps so millionaires aren't accessing the scheme) while implementing their negative gearing plan more cautiously in a falling market.

Doubtful. Too many people voted Liberal for compounding of wealth to be a decisive factor. I'd believe people voting Liberal to protect their jobs and domicile house value as a greater factor than people voting to protect their negatively geared investment property.

Self-interest and greed go hand in hand and I don't blame people for wanting to protect their livelihoods.

I’m sure that’s true for some. Others are protecting their rates of return and on the next rung down they’re voting with their aspirations.

Many Italian and Greek migrants worked bloody hard without the wanky professional titles and massive pay packets so that their children could get an education and live a more comfortable life, which I believe is Papa G's point. What's your point? Are you advocating for socialism?

My family is half Greek, I know hundreds of Greek migrants and their descendants and know the story full well. It's almost cliche, they all have the same story.

My point is, everyone works hard for their money. Some people make more than others, that's capitalism and it's fair enough. Just quit the 'I work hard for my money so keep your hands off it' wank. Sometimes the system that facilitates you making all that money asks for a little bit back. It's called living in a society.

And for the record, I voted Liberal.

The Greeks and Italians benefitted from the same kissed on the dick timing that all the other Baby Boomers did. My grandparents were just general workers in nurseries and restaurants and they still paid off three houses within 5km of the city. They weren’t bludgers by any means (shifty perhaps, we suspect Nonno was stealing plants from work and selling them to his mates lol) but even the average double income no kids professional couple would struggle to achieve half that these days.

Have you looked at it from the other side? How simple a life did they lead? Did they grow their own vegetables, did they have their own chickens, Did they make their own sauce/wine/grappa/olives etc, did Mamma/Nonna cook every single night? Did they watch their pennies? Did they scrimp and save? Did they rarely go out? Did they wear designer clothes? Did they drive a fancy car?

How do you reckon the average DINKS would go living that lifestyle?

I don’t believe I’m a particularly good person.

What makes someone a good person is helping others around them and taking action standing up for what they believe in towards improving the world.

You can do that and vote Liberal

In our immediate neighbourhood there are five rental houses owned by local people who are employees and hopefully building for their long term future.
A strong argument could be made for capping the number of houses a person can negatively gear eg the Malcolm Turnbulls of this world. That could or perhaps should include their spouse and probably a complete asset test be applied.

There needs to be a balance and not a slash and burn approach.

This is all true ... but I wonder how many of their kids/grandkids would be happy to live that lifestyle ;)

GoT winding up now doesn't have a thing to do with the actors ability, pay packet or anything of the sort. HBO were willing to make 10 seasons and the writers wanted to move on to other projects.

Of course.

It’s just that voting liberal is according to my moral compass a negative action that hurts society, and most times hurts the individual voting.

People voting liberal had their penalty rates cut, people voting liberal were forced off the dole or onto work for the dole schemes, people who voted liberal had theirs and their children’s working rights destroyed under John Howard.

Our wages are lower, our safety nets are being removed, and to top it off our country is literally dying due to the effects of climate change for which the liberals say “well it’s too expensive to do anything so what do you want?”.

....And I forgot, as Pappagallo ponders online which 6 pack of the 78 varieties of Craft Gooseberry infused Indian Pale Ale he wishes to have delivered direct to his front door for the same price as a chickenpox vaccine for an entire African Village, Nonno had to line up at the pub, well before 6pm, in the heat, rain and wind for a crate of Southwark Long necks.

Make lots of money by all means, but not at the expense of paying your share.
Why should someone who can't afford to buy an investment property have to pay the full tax load and someone who can, not? That is inherently unfair. If your investment isn't making money, it's not an investment its middle class welfare.

Australia has the highest minimum wage in the world.

They could have brought in other writers to take over. It’s not like it was their original story anyway. It’s Martin’s, right?

Give someone else a year to prep for it (during S8) and off you go. This is a world where three best selling novels and subsequent film adaptions were written based on a Twilight fan fiction. I’m sure they could have found someone out their to write for one of the biggest shows of all time.

I’m telling you, it’s because Clarke was told what happens in S8 and she said “I’m not doing another two seasons if this happens this season. Just end it.”

See for yourself:

“Um, he just doesn’t like women does he?” Clarke quips. “He keeps f—king killing them. No. If I were to put myself in his shoes I’m not sure what else he could have done aside from … oh, I dunno, maybe having a discussion with me about it? Ask my opinion? Warn me? It’s like being in the middle of a phone call with your boyfriend and they just hang up and never call you again. ‘Oh, this great thing happened to me at work today —hello?’ And that was 9 years ago…”

WAIT A MINUTE!
All this started by you attacking 'Poms' as whingers and entitled.
Are you actually suggesting that they haven't worked hard on coming to Australia, but the Greeks and Italians have? I'm sure your not, but the transit of your argument allows for that interpretation.

They make that? Link me up!

They should have definitely done that.

Nanny state? It's coming from the WHO.

Lets be fair here, we do not have the resources as individuals to analyse and research the effects of drugs on babies (just using this as the current example). The state does and does so on our behalf, why is it then wrong for them to make recommendations based on their data?
It's not nanny state, it's the state actually doing their job.

And what business does Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshead have telling us what is ok for our babies?

They should have definitely done that.

So why did they leave money on the table? Especially when you’ve got Kit Harrington defending the writers from fans who are criticising them while at the same time saying the final season was “disappointing”?
