John Tyler, the 10th US President 1841-1845 still has 2 grandsons alive. He was born in 1790 and was VP to William Henry Harrison who won the 1840 election and then died of typhoid and pneumonia in office after a month into the job.

Tyler had 15 kids. 8 from his first wife who died in 1842 when he was still President. Tyler married again in 1844, 9 months before he finished up as president. She was 24 he was 54. They had 7 kids the last one when Tyler was 70. But he had a son Lyon born in 1853 when he was 63.

Lyon had 2 wives. First one they had 3 kids together and died in 1921 when he was 68. Shortly after he married someone 35 years his junior. They had 3 kids, had 2 sons when he was 71 and 75 - Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr. born in 1924, and Harrison Ruffin Tyler was born in 1928 another son died in infancy. At the start of May they were both still alive.

Teddy Rosevelt was 26th President 1901-1909 was born 68 years after Tyler, president starting 60 years after Tyler became president, had 6 kids from 2 wives and he has no grand kids alive.

Woodrow Wilson President in WWI had 3 kids but no grand kids are still alive. He was born 66 years after Tyler and president 72 years after Tyler.

w/r/t teething concoctions, years back on a trip to Lincoln, somewhere one side or the other of Whyalla we gave our son (maybe 18 months old) a Panadol dosage of a teething gel as it came in the exact same bottle as the Panadol (had a label on it saying "DO NOT CONFUSE WITH PANADOL" which we didn't see as it was dark).

After a somewhat belligerent conservation with the emergency ward at the hospital it was decided that he'd be fine just only give water for a bit. He was fine.

Kids are pretty resilient and that's an example of not even close to the worst thing we did to ours when trying to do our best.

Only the other day I came home from work and my partner confessed that instead of giving our son the Vitamin-D drops that come in this little bottle she almost gave him essential oils from an extremely similar little bottle.

Those who get there on merit are usually happy to help others, those who get there by the usual methods just believe they got there on merit.

Nanny state? It's coming from the WHO.

Lets be fair here, we do not have the resources as individuals to analyse and research the effects of drugs on babies (just using this as the current example). The state does and does so on our behalf, why is it then wrong for them to make recommendations based on their data?
It's not nanny state, it's the state actually doing their job.

It's ingrained in them. The term whinging Pom doesn't come from nowhere. They are stuck in this class victim system.

I look at the post war migration of this country. The Greeks, the Italians, the Eastern Europeans, they came to this country with basically nothing, didn't speak the language, a lot of them basically peasants, came from war torn and ravaged countries having dealt with being over run by the Germans, The Russians, or both, then the Commies. The Poms go on about the Blitz and rationing but they weren't ever invaded. Look at the lives these European migrants have made for themselves, they worked hard to build businesses, send their kids to University make a fist of it. How many people of Greek/Italian etc people do you run int in the professional world? Doctors/Lawyers/Engineers/Accountants etc. It's disproportionate to the population. These people worked hard to get there, they don't have Hyphenated names and are direct descendants of the Squattocracy as some here would have you believe. The Vietnamese are the same. Every second Pharmacy is run by Duc Nguyen's brethren.

Sure, if you are born into privilege it's easier to maintain that privilege, also some don't get there on merit, it has always been thus, but please don't tell me that you can't get ahead in this country. And if people who have worked hard to build their wealth, I don't begrudge them wanting to protect it, and this is why many people vote Liberal. They aren't evil.

I've got ahead in both countries very well thankyou very much, indeed I worked up from the council estates of South Wales to the rarefied air of Whitehall before I came to Australia.

That is all the more reason to fight for opportunity for others, not pull up the drawbridge. That is just campaignerish, and what Libs stand for. I would not have been able to without free health care, free education, decent public transport and a benefits system that helped my single mother.

All things Tory campaigners believe should be abolished or privatised.
