This should have been the winning run, in the 10th innings, but Rojas' balance and throw was brilliant.

And as comments to that post and every Blue Jays fan is saying

WHY did Kiner-Falefa not take a bigger lead off run on the pitch given a lefty was at bat? And WHY did he SLIDE?

You don't slide at home with the bases loaded; there's no avoiding a tag, you're trying to touch the plate as fast as possible. Feet first sliding most likely cost him the winning run.

The 2 nights they did at the Ent Cent back in 2010 were quite different. Lets hope they do it again. Maybe they are too old and won't? Maiden's setlist last year, which was quite dissapointing, didn't change the entire tour.

They always swap songs here and there, it's just a question of by how much. Those 2010 shows were perfect.

Iron Maidens Run for Your Lives tour (May 2025 to Oct 2025) set list is killer. Not sure if they will bring it to Australia.

This was the setlist last year - not good.

Compare with their last concert in Poland in August...

Agree Papa G. It was pure piss. Glad I did not waste my money.

Does the lead singer still pilot their plane to fly their stuff between gigs, or has he given that away.

Setlist from Perth isn't horrible but way, way too much from the Black Album. I guess its about keeping the casual fan happy.... a bit like Koch's PAFC.

yeah nah that setlist is ass and balls.
not really any bangers until the last 3 tracks. yeah sandman is way overdone but its still kinda fun to see live.

compare that to the death magnetic tour

Forty years ago today, race day for the inaugural Adelaide Grand Prix in 1985.

I was there, as were 107,499 others in a sold out crowd.

IMO an international (sporting or other) event for Adelaide and our state unmatched in my life time.

IMO the malbun one has always been a bit of a flop. better in a niche city like adelaide where people can froth about it.

i remember getting taken to it as a kid in i think 1991 and loved it.

I was working at Clipsal in those days, from memory they gave us the Friday off to go and watch the practice round.
I spent most of the day in the tent getting pissed but the noise those formula one cars made was unforgettable.

Yeah. The Adelaide GP was special, partly because F1 racing was still something new to Australia; still Euro-centric; and still in that transition to an ultra hyped regulated mega global sport that it is now.

IMO, the 10 years we had the race was when it was at the peak of accessibility and excitement. And, as 240volt says - the sound of those V10s and V12s was something you could never forget. Them and the F111 flyovers echoed across the city and suburbs in a way V8s and F/A18s could never match.

The Melbourne race, although attracting a much bigger crowd and international attention doesn't come close to matching the whole of city vibe that the Adelaide race had - it is still regarded by many F1 experts, former drivers and team bosses as the best circuit and atmosphere ever.

Eventually it outgrew us in cost and scale and I'm glad we don't have it anymore. But the memories..

You have to slide these days, the days of running through the catcher are gone.
But his lead was atrocious.

Plenty of runners dive at bases rather than slide into it. Not the majority, but plenty.

That's why when some players get to first base, they put on a glove that looks more like a mitten.

Jumping and sliding are close enough to same speed, diving at home is usually done to slide away from the plate and reach over to avoid a tag only quicker way is running though, which you can’t do anymore.

This was also a force play so diving was irrelevant.

How? It easier to thrust yourself forward with a dive than a slide. Its why guys who steal a high number of bases dive as much as they slide. A forced play isn't any real difference to steal a base - once you go, you have to go.

The Unforgiven & Nothing Else Matters are always putrid live no way they should be holding out Fade To Black & Sanitarium.

Ohh boy I have to agree. As wonderful as it would be to still have the race here, I just know it would be on tenterhooks as to whether its coming back, sustainable, worth the effort, etc.

Our appetite for motorsport was proven in those years and we have the Adelaide 500 at least.

Adelaide as a track wouldn't work anymore due to the size of modern F1 cars.
I still think it would have still been worth having if that wasn't an issue though. A lot of eyes on it globally. A lot of international visitors that otherwise would never think of coming here.

Maybe this is just a Gen X thing... worth the share none the less

Was waiting for the boulder to fall on the Coyote....

A slide uses your momentum, a dive shifts it. they balance out to around the same.

When you slide feet first, it is safer, more precise and just as quick, you will also have a better chance of dislodging the ball in a collision but you can't deviate once the slide has begun.

When you slide head first you reach out so you can 'dodge' with your hand if there is a tag, in a forced play there is no tag to avoid.

So as this was forced a slide was appropriate, there's no tag to avoid.

The quicker option is to run through as there is no friction slowing you down, that's why there's no slide to first (its different at second and third as you need to stop when you get to base) but you can't run through the catcher at home anymore, especially if there is a potential throw after.

The bigger issue here was there was no secondary lead and that cost him around 4 feet.

I have the recording of one of those nights, I forget exactly which one I was there. I’ll check when I’m home from work.

A buddy of mine has a spare GA ticket for tomorrow night. He paid over $300 for it, I’ll pass thanks.
