I'd say Franklin would be too damaging if the ball hits the ground, he's got amazing turning speed, could be worth a shot if the other guys struggle. Think we're better off giving the young guys a challenge. Richo's role is working ok at the moment so if he can drop in front of franklin as well as go forward it could be more effective.

I reckon if we need to turn to Richo on Buddy then we are already shot.
We need to trust in our established defenders to do the job and bust our balls in the midfield to restrict supply & pressure the guy delivering the ball so that it is not clean to Franklins advantage.
Your comments about Richo's athletic abilities are on the mark but he has zero pure defensive skills.
Nothing would be worse than to lose the game whilst watching Richo being towelled up by a guy 12 years younger than him!
If things are going poorly then by all means lets use Richo loose to fill the space at CHB but only as a roaming defender.

Terrible idea, if we did that then Richo wouldn't be dangerous for them to handle. If we think too defensively we won't have any chance of winning. We must win in the middle at all costs and spread our forwards so we have multiple options going into attack.

AI reckon Johno will be in the back line doubleing up on the big forwards, he did this in round one with Fev and we kept him to only a few goals ( can't remember exactly how many )

Surely Thursfield is the logical choice. He's mobile, tall and and a great spoil.

Plan B could be one of the other defenders and plan C of course the old drop a man back ploy. You'd have to expect Hawthorn will have a similar plan for Richo if he plays forward.

Personally I would like to hope that the brains trust are planning a way of making Hawthorn react to our game plan, rather than just trying to blanket Hawthorn's. Throw something out of left field at them (like Richo on the wing against Freo, or the posession game against the crows) and it might force them to play some guys out of position where we can capitalise.

I was thinking the exact same thing,even though buddy is younger I'm sure richo can match him for part of the game.

Why sacrifice Richo for anyone....unless you are confident not only is he going to hold Franklin, but also run off him and be creative????? We would lose so much everywhere else if Richo plays defensive, and I am not sure he could do it anyway.

Richo needs a free licence to roam far and wide...he offers so many leads to the wings and can drop back in front of Franklin when he likes now he is playing further up the ground.

If Franklin can be held to 5-6, and Richo kicks his standard 3-4, with a few assists and a heap of grabs all over the ground, then we can be happy with that IMO.
