Stole this from radio host Andy Lee but it's a brilliant idea.
Hold the U18 champs in the 2 weeks between R23 an the first final. Could squeeze in 3 games from each side

Play them at major grounds and televise them on fox/7. Cheap tickets and even get some crowds turning up, means fans of the bottom 10 sides can get a look at players the clubs might draft.

Can't see any reason this isn't a good idea. Might also separate some of the blokes who can't handle pressure.

I don't think watching a bunch of 17 year old's go round is going to have wide appeal. Three games from each side would allow no recovery time for the players and just set them up for injury.

It would have appeal in the future if it were marketed as the 'future stars' weekend or something. I'm sure if you ran promos for the top kids in the land who will be in the AFL in a 6 months time, people would want to tune in to see what their club could potentially be getting.

Could you imagine the commentary though? Constant chatter about what school this and that player is from, who their dad is, who their brother is, what's their favourte breakfast cereal, spectulation which club this player would go to, who would fit in to this team's structure, footage of previously recorded player interviews whilst the game is going on. There wouldn't be much of a call of the actual play and it would just become unwatchable.

Exactly! See potential number 1 and draft picks player x and y go head to head this Friday night.
I'd be watching

I actually don't have a problem with any of that. Easy way in the modern times to show a players personality since they are usually robotic in the media.
