After all those free kicks in front of goal the umps gave the Bombers I was finding it difficult to be appreciative. Then I watched the Hawks and Saints game and realised we can be thankful we didn't get umpire Nicholls. So I am appreciative.

I have to say that we've had a bad run on some pretty dubious decisions but do we need to look at any other reasons for why so many frees are being paid against us? Can it all simply be the umpires fault?

Edit: just watched the replay of the last 10 minutes of the Suns game last week. Definitely not our fault.

I've always held the thought that Nicholls is by far the worst umpire in the AFL, not just because he has screwed us over several times (North Melbourne and Blacky indicident).

Edit: Just realised he was the head umpire in Sirengate, should of been sacked after that.

I think Nicholls was relegated for the first 5 or so rounds this year. I thought we had finally gotten rid of him but unfortunately he has reappeared the last couple of weeks. Its an indictment on the standard of umpiring in the AFL that he can get a game.

I do not have a problem with recognising one round a year as Umpire Appreciation Round… although I do wonder if the umpires take exception to The Laws of the Game Committee who seem hell bent on seemingly reconstructing or morphing OUR rules with a Gaelic Football perspective by rewriting changes that more often than not are almost impossible for umpires to adjudicate without some form of self interpretation.

Make no mistake, from this supporters perspective I think a game without umpires would be a bit like wiping your bum without toilet paper. Yep, they are a necessity of life… allowing supporters from both sides to keep their hands [metaphorically] clean from blaming their own side.

Thank-you bum wipes… I hope you all enjoyed your week. :thumbsu: .;)

Was forced to wear a green armband when playing on Saturday to show support for umpires... never wanted to rip my own arm off before that moment.

It's a bit difficult to appreciate them when they have at least 8 points of ours in their pockets. Fremantle and the Suns should appreciate them for a handy leg-up though.

I appreciate that, with the umpires we have been getting, we don't have to tank to get draft picks. They do it for us.:D

I'm at the stage of just hoping for bad umpires ... then at least we might get some go our way.
I counted 6 goals last week that were given by free kicks against us with possibly 2 of them possible. Did I miss the memo to the umpires that said Brisbane was not to be allowed to win this year:confused:
Umpiring has never been good for us but this year has taken a new depth. Usually when the game was lost (by us) they would even up the score. This year we have probably been too close.
Before the Suns game a mate who goes for the suns sent me a text asking who I thought would be caned by the maggots. Don't know why I bothered wasting the text back.
