They've been surprisingly good up to half time IMHO. Only two glaring errors so far, namely Griffen's goal and the High tackle to Johno Brown. Also for some reason it seemed in the first quarter that whenever we dropped the ball in a tackle we were pinged wheras Brisbane are allowed pretty much free reign.

Still, a good showing by the men in green so far, i hope they keep it up:thumbsu:

Griff was robbed of his first AFL goal. Brown got a cheapy for ducking his head but it's been Ok so far.

The '2007 Green Maggot Conference' when they were having a group reach around session to decide whether Griffen's kick was touched or not was a beauty.

Even the commentators are inconsistent, they said Brown should never have received a free because he ducked his head, yet a Lion defender did the same thing and they said it was too high (which incidently wasn't paid a free).

That one raises an interesting question. If the umpires are going to waste a minute bitching about the decision anyway, how would it hurt to have television replays to adjudicate on those type of decisions?

We got a goal thought that was apparently touched in the first quarter.

Well i suppose the Griff one was just a square up then:o

Wow it is not often you see that many goal umpiring mistakes in the one game:thumbsd:

Also what is the need to have a freaking 30 second conference with all the umpires involved if the goal umpire is going to stick with their original decision?

Not a bad week, 24-11 in favour of Brisbane.

It was the chick that made the mistakes, she looked tappable though and didnt cost us the game so all is forgiven :D

I'd say about half of Brisbane's were justified, for some reason the boys seem to be over-eager to lay head high tackles this year.

However i also noticed tonight alot of Brisbane players have a tendency to duck their heads in a tackle (and the umpires kept rewarding it) and that Chris Johnson and Jason Roe seem to be from the Gavin Wanganeen school of football:thumbsd:

The problem with the new in the back rule is that too many players are just hitting the ground as soon as they feel contact and most of the time the umpires are too bigger ****wits to notice. Case in point when Bock pats Roe on the back when Jericho kicked that goal yet Roe manages to go flying. Ridicolous!:thumbsd:

No, she made the first one (that went in our favour).

The bloke made the next two/three. Drop him.

Spot on - he will not be in next week after the field ump made sure he was 100% that it wasn't touched and the call on the replay shows otherwise.

Listening to Jarrad Molloy on pre game abc. Simply stated that if afl and rules committee dont get it right then umpires at all levels have no chance whatsoever.
Put more simply the Afl and R Comm are making it so hard for the umpires that inevitably the fans at whatever level are going to vent their anger and thus put new umpires off. Went on to say that they should be listening to what coaches said this week, take it as constructive criticism, and stop being the gestapo they are.
This is not to say that any gripes posted in this thread already tonight are not worthy gripes.

Something is seriously wrong. The 24 frees to Brisbane I am not so concerned about, it's the fact we only got 11. The disparity now has been too consistent to ignore, it's taking me back to the pre premiership days we we were robbed blind regulalrly.

3-1 in goals tonight.

Rutten would be spewing had conceed only 5 goals in 6 games and the umpires decided to team up with Brown to get a goal.

Yes eye candy no doubt about it, but she's the better of the 2 goal umpies as the bloke stuffed up more than her (and her's was a harder one to call).

The ratio should have favoured Brissy given our tackling tonight but not by that much - umpies are clearly baised and not paying it both ways... it's not a trend, ITS AN OBSERVABLE OUTCOME. Does the AFL monitor/investigate umpies betting, does anyone know ? Ask Goodie for the odds.

And Round 1 was probably our worst game!

We regularly push the boundaries about how much physical pressure we can apply to opponents, always make opposition forwards earn their marks, are quick to tackle etc so it is not really suprising that we give away a high number of frees. Also Paul Hamilton noted when he was interviewed by Rohan Smith that our tackling had been particularly sloppy - lots of high tackles given away.

Not quite sure why we are getting so few frees of our own though. One reason might be that our forwards are not the types to attract frees. Often if you outpoint your defender, claim the front position and look like you are going to mark it the defender will give away a free kick - 'worth a try, he was going to mark it anyway.' Our forwards never really look like marking the ball.

They can't even bounce the bloody thing! How the hell can we expect them to make the right calls.

Dead set pathetic and they will still continue to escape the consequences of their below par performances

I wasn't so concerned about the 24 frees they got. Well, some of them I was peeved about, but overall most of those 24 were there.

The fact that we only got 11, YES 11, is deadset ridiculous. 11 and 9 in two of the last three weeks. Pathetic.

We hear the umpires saying that they want to protect the ball players and give them a chance.

Well **** me but Scott Thompson is getting r*ped with holding the ball decisions. So far this season he has copped 5 of the worst holding the ball decision you are ever going to see. Dead set crap!
