I just saw the replay and Edwards arm went across Stenglines face and neck.

im not saying it would have won the game because we probably would have just run out of time but it was a ****ing terrible decision

Was worse than the sound of the final siren.

Goodwin is about to tear away and boom it long into the hot spot - then out of nowhere, for no good reason, the umpire picks a free kick out of thin air like it's Round 1 and not a Preliminary Final between the two best sides in the comp.

Atmosphere in the crowd went from fever pitch to Hiroshima in the split second it took him to put his arm out to signal the free.

Disgraceful decision.

I've just seen the replay on Fox Footy and still don't know why Stenglein got the free kick at the end of the match.

Also
1. why didn't Burton get a free kick for too high at the end of the second quarter. Result-no chance for a goal
2. why was holding the ball not paid against the West Coast player right in front of our goal in the first quarter. Result-almost a certain goal
3. the free kick for holding the ball against Edwards in the third quarter was incorrect. He was not tackled but had the ball hit out of his hands. Result-goal to West Coast
4. a holding the ball then throw in the same contest not given against West Coast in the fourth quarter. Result-almost certain goal to the Crows

They are just a few off the top of my head but there were a few other holding the ball decisions which did not go our way.
As I said in another thread, I expect this, as it's a regular occurrence, so the team just has to play even better to overcome the deficiencies in the umpiring.

There was only one decent umpire today and that was Goldspink. No 25-Ryan-has been touted as a GF umpire but he was pathetic today. If the umpires we have seen in the 2 PFs are the best 6, then heaven help the future in umpiring.

I live in WA and even the WC supporters didn't know what was going on, so what we may have got nothing from it but it should have been a chance ****en tossers and as I said before the worst decision of the gane was theb 50mtr penalty, that changed the whole lot!!!!

Burton should have got a free just before half time, it was definately too high and could have been a huge goal to end the half.

I never complain about the umps but today they made some horror decisions at the worst times, I still keep thinking about the 50mts penalty, that started the whole lot!! Without that we were well in control and also Johncock/Burton dunno who but whoever it was that was taken high when we were about 4 points down in the last, thats was u huge FUC.KUP too

Are you Bloody serious, the crowd noise when he might have been saying get back.....He wasn't far over campared to any other mark taken this yearm watch a few replays and learn!!! SHOCKING decision and a big one at that!!

First that horrible center bounce which resulted in a Wea-girl goal,

Without doubt the worst bounce ive ever seen at AFL level. Went waist height and about 15 metres to the side. One rule they should bring in - and actually police - is the umpires calling up a crap bounce like they do in the SANFL. Amazes me they dont do this.

Bock was 5 metres over the mark and didnt bother stepping back. Free kick every time.

I dont think the umpiring was as bad as people are making out. There were one or two other decisions that were poor - Selwood holding the ball in first quarter should have been paid.

Not so much the fact that the penalty was paid but for every other similar incident in every match this year the umpire would of said "Back a couple of meters thanks Nathan" and this did happen multiple times today but for some reason he chose to call this one and the umpire never even set the mark in the first place.

Thats the major bit........The umpire never set the mark!!!! In a normal weekly game, would have been normal but chose to be a **** tonight!!!!!!

It doesn’t matter what they do call, it’s what they don’t call or miss is the thing that **** me.

What about Tyson holding the ball just before ¾ time when Hunter hit the post, but midway though the last quarter Johncock tackled Armstrong in the goal square down the southern end but nothing was called, the ball was forced out the boundary line and as the West Coast retain the balled and bombed it back in for Embley mark and goal.

Award Johncock the holding the ball free kick and we can release the danger.

Mathew Bode pinned Darren Glass in the goal square in the first quarter and created an illegal disposal but only a ball up was awarded.

It’s not the crappolla they do pay; it’s the crappolla they don’t pay that should be questioned.

If Goldspink get the Grand Final next week, it’s a ****ing disgrace.

What was the worst call of the day? Toss up between the Selwood HTB and Lynch's 'point'. They were pretty awful at times, but you guys were lucky you weren't playing Sydney. I don't think they've ever had a HTB paid against them, at least not when we play them. It's infuriating.

Have a look at our performances at AAMI this year and then the umpiring statistics where before today we recieved a whole 1.6 frees per game more.


It aint only this article but WLF and various other vic media where 27 of the 32 umpires live.

I watched the last quarter and a half from the West Coast race.

Why wasn't a fifty awarded to Burton(?) when a free was played in front of members and Braun proceeded to kick the ball downfield.

I'm not sure on others opinions, but there appeared to be a couple of times our players went for the speccie and didn't touch the ball. They did impede the WCE player but no free was paid.

On the decision with 14 seconds remaining, unfortunately Edwards arm was clearly over Stenglein's shoulder and thus the free resulted. I was annoyed at the time, but after seeing the replay I'd say that would be paid 9.5 times out of 10.

With the Burton free kick, it looked to me like the umpire blew the whistle after another eagles player marked the ball (because Burton got slung), and perhaps the Eagles player thought it was a whistle for a mark? I'm not sure, but that's how I remember it happening.

Who knows, and it's not worth pondering about.

But the simple fact is, that in a billion dollar industry, with such massive stakes, in the second most important game of the year, the standard of umpiring was ****ing terrible, absolutely ****.

1 how many skill errors do players make in a game of footy....??...the ump made a skill error....it wasnt a bad decision.....it was like a hundred skill erors players make all the time...

2..go to a park and try and bounce a footy...its bloody hard....give the guy a break....

Mate, no one is crucifying the guy for making a mistake - we're all just pissed off that it was such a shocking bounce, which we all know should have been recalled, and it wasn't.

And I don't bounce a footy for a living, I don't need to be able to do it.

The umpiring was rubbish, you got dudded five points, we got screwed alot more than that.
