While I agree it showed that both sides seem to be the real contenders this year, I also think Geelong had a pretty good run of the umps. Selwood copped six frees, a couple of which were very dodgy...

That, and jolly HAS to be fit in September

Quoted for truth.

IMO the advantage was there for the pendles non-goal, but had Wood kicked the goal it wouldn't have been brought up at all.

Some ppl do have a sick hatred for us tho, its so super original :thumbsu:
Geelong supporters at least have a reason to be in here, everyone else I'm not so sure about.

This is why you lost, not because of the umpires. Good on the Magpies fans that are willing to see the game as more than 'luck of the umpires'.

sore losers, you guys are pathetic. geelong were much better, be grateful you lost by under a goal.

Pot, kettle, black? You realise Essendon supporters were blaming the umpires for their 5 goal loss on ANZAC day? Get back to your own board and talk about how your s**tstain supporters boo their own players, thanks.

Our players (and for that matter, Geelong's) made far more mistakes than the umpires last night.

We were terrible, they were pretty good. I have no problem with the result.

We need to worry about how we can improve if we want to go B2B in September. Losers make excuses; I bet Mick isn't bleating about the advantage decision.

Umps didnt cost us the win. Sure the Pendles decision was incorrect but we were 2nd to the ball, they cleared it out the middle and our entry into the fwd 50 was shit.

Its May, we will get back Jolly, Maxwell, Johnson and Beams. This loss doesnt change anything for us

lol @ some pies fans

pies got a lot of soft frees early

how about when toovey got injured the umpire waits until the ball is back into the geelong forward line before him going off

umpiring didn't decide the game

BS Joel Selwood Early got a Free Kick when some just Touched Him. He is the Next Juddy with the Umps

Joel Selwood. 6 frees. Geelongs game plan is based around them, every single player for the cats will stage for a free at the drop of a hat. Nice to snag some close H&A qwins but I doubt it'll get you guys very far in the finals when the umps put the whistle away.

If anyone thinks the umpiring is the main reason we lost and thinks that we deserved to win that game then you are kidding yourselves.

We got smashed in scoring shots, inside 50s and tackles. We have 2 outastading players in Thomas and shaw but I reckon geelong had 7 or 8 of the best 10 players on the ground.

Instead of looking at the mistake the umpire made in the last 3 minutes how about looking at the many mistakes our players made.

Swans kick to bartel in the back 50
Swan lossing his footy in the crucial contests against menzel
Dick missing a straight forward shot in the last
Dick not taking the ball cleanly 50 metres out with minutes left meaning instead of have a gettable shot on goal he has to go backwards
The countless kicks out of our back 50 that hit the chest of geelong players.
The total lack of instensity on the 1st quarter and terrible tackling pressure.

We did not deserve to win. If pendles was awarded the goal and we had of won the game I thought the better side would have lost the game. Im not greatly concerned by the result as I always feel as though malthouse has us peaking at finals time and I think they had there best 22 on the park as we dont. I also think they are probably a bit fitter at the moment.

i thought both teams played worse than the umpires umpired.

This thread is quite pathetic to be honest.

Yeah, your comments didn't add a lot TBH>

The teams actually played very well in the conditions apart from Collingwood in the first quarter.

The umpiring wasn't good, but then it's a really hard sport to umoire well with all the hairline interpretations and also three individuals with their own interpretation again.

I don't mind mistakes both ways as long as the thresholds for both sides are roughly balanced.

There's been games this year where that IMHO, clearly has not occurred.

GC / Brisbane last week was as close to a fixed match i've ever seen.

The NAB cup semi where Essendon beat St Kilda was another...St Kilda, and I can't really stand that club, were disarticulated by the umpires all night long.

Whether it's betting, the AFL achieving results that's good for their brand, who knows, but it appeared to happen.

The AFL needed GC to do well last week after being destroyed by Essendon the week before, they didn't need their baby project to lose all cred, which concerns me in the umpiring light of that game.

I have a had a Feeling for Quite Awhile that the AFL tells umps to give certain teams Help with the Umps and Disadvantage others like Collingwood

Very True but in the Last Few Minutes the Umps Help Decide the Game

Just thought I would share my two cents. Firstly, Geelong deserved the win entirely. They shat all over us in every aspect of the game. Now I don't like bantering the umps, but in this game particularly, there were tons of shockers that may have changed the dynamics of the game through score board pressure. Yes, maybe if the frees were given to us, we could have won. However, I believe that Geelong looked more hungry for the win and we looked like we were ready for a P & O cruise; well certain players did anyway.

Here's the positives for us, and there are plenty of them. Firstly, we were missing at least six of our best last night, and a few of their replacements weren't doing justice (e.g. Dick). Secondly, I have found that over the last 7 games, we haven't even kicked into 6th gear; we have mostly been playing in 2nd or 3rd. Yet, we still have been winning. Thirdly, this loss was way overdue. We needed it big time. Just like a fire renews bushland, this loss will surely renew the side and I believe from this, that "6th gear", will be reached. Lastly, Geelong won by 3 points. Considering all the elements above, theres nothing to be concerned about with this loss in my mind. We have much more to improve on then the Cats do. Seriously, we lead them at one stage without all those elements above in place. They played their best, we didn't. We DONT want to be peaking right now! Thus, its all positives in my mind.

So Congrats to Cats. Enjoy the win. You deserved it. Remember though its Round 8 ;) .......Premierships are won in October, not May. :)

if the umps wanted to disadvantage collingwood you wouldnt have won the flag last year...

Geelong got the better run but yes.. the umps didnt decide the game.
The Toovey decision is the correct one, play has to be stopped if the ball is coming into a area where a player is down injured with trainers. Collingwood were smart to not call the stretcher until the ball was coming down that way.

Quite an amusing read.

As a neutral I saw it as an enthralling contest.
The umps got some decisions wrong as they always do ( and Geischen will come out and tell us why they were right anyway), but I don't see that as the decider.

Collingwood had the game at their mercy when they scored the first goal in the last, but Geelong refused to lie down. Bartel was probably the difference.

The one obvious thing about Collingwood is that Cameron Wood is not who you want in the finals. Darren Jolly is super important for you.

KissStephanie did assure me pre-season hough that Jolly would not get injured.

Oh dear. I could name as many poor umpiring decision against us or ones that we didn't get.
