Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Holy shit. Listen to the Laura Kane interview on SEN this week and tell me the AFL don't manipulate results. She blatantly states the AFL track the percentage of time the margin stays under 4 goals to keep both fans interested, to the dot she said they were at 68%. They monitor teams forward 50 efficiency to make sure they're kicking enough goals (can easily be influenced by forward 50 free kicks).

Just what is the point of this competition? To me it sounds like in their perfect world they could just give every team a trophy and call everyone a winner. Why is the AFL tracking teams forward 50 efficiency? Is that not the responsibility of the clubs?

If you really listen to this interview and what she's actually saying, I now have no doubt in my mind that the AFL is manipulating results to reach their targeted metrics. The statistical accuracy she came up with leads to no other conclusion. There has to be AFL directive to induce higher scoring and keep games close as long as possible.

I can't believe more hasn't been made of this, I just randomly found it doom scrolling Instagram. Laura Kane doesn't give one shit about the tangible product. She cares about the intangible statistics that are ultimately making it worse.

This is glorified WWE, folks. No doubt in my mind.

They are clueless, aren’t they?

Yep, when the umpires decide they are paying the soft free kicks there is no point holding back as they're still going to ping you for any false step.

Instead smash in even harder within the spirit of the game. Worst that happens is you give a free kick away, no need to worry about next week's game, just win today. Grind grind grind.

Umpires and the vfl will start shitting themselves if they see the ticky touch ones result in players going in harder at the contests.
If they are ticky touch, you may as well let them earn it.

I think there is a bit of that within the team already.

The free kick that was down the ground to Naughton who kicked a point had the flavour of taking a guy out because if you're going to give BS free kicks, here's one worth it. I don't know who it was and I don't know how legal or illegal it was but the ump jumped on it really quickly like the rest of them.

if we're going full tin foil hat I swear the players purposefully miss shots. but they're probably too dumb to be in on it. at the end of the day it's like the Flat Earth, we'll never know the truth. :greenalien:

Remember when Dan Houston deliberately handballed to a teammate's feet because of something Hinkley did/said?

Not only are they corrupt and incompetent but add liars.

They are a protected speices. Unaccountable Swill.

Kane wants them all suspended for 4 weeks given the way AFL hands out penalties to players.

Ah yes, they forgot/didn't remember.
They didn't forget the biggest incident of the game reportted on by the media.

They blatantly lied, thinking nobody would dig up the tape.

Classic AFL employees covering their arse.

So, you have a clear fencing response from Schultz, then him falling over (which at least one umpire clearly sees, given his response) but they do not stop the game, which makes Schultz have to run from the ground (which is great for concussion).

But the AFL says it is concerned about head injuries.

I would have a ball cross-examining these guys if they said they didn't recall the incident.

The Coaches Bunker to Ground comms have been very evident this year

The lateness of many calls no doubt as a reaction to discreetly being instructed to pay a free

It is insane
