Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

We need to seriously clean up some of the undisciplined stuff like Farrell and Wines ....
Farrell being slow to give the ball over wouldn't have been a 50m penalty last week and it won't be next week.

Wines hung on to the ball because after having his head almost ripped off he thought the free was his.

Reckon Farrell held onto it too because initially it seemed like the umpire hadn’t actually paid the free.

I wonder if Dunstall's attitude had anything to do with Willie pointing out the way his father was treated, on social media a fortnight ago...

He seems to be mates with Ricciuto and when they commentate together they almost egg each other on to barrack against us.

Most clubs have a hometown commentator somewhere, we get a board member of our hated rival trying to get our players suspended and muddying the waters. It's infuriating.

Kudos to Kane for torching the umpiring calling it deplorable. Mentioned 4 goals from 4 50m penalties and 2 from direct free kicks for North. He says what the club hasn’t got the guts to say in the media.
Unfortunately Kane will get the talk by AFL HQ and that will be last we will hear about umpire bashing from a non Vic club.

As I posted in another thread, the 50s against Ollie and Kane would not have been paid if the umpire had shown one tiny iota of common sense and told the North player to stop standing over them and let them get to their feet before giving the ball back.

The free kick is the reward. You don't get a bonus play on 50m penalty because your opponent is stuck on the ground because you're standing over him.

In both instances I don’t think our players realised they were free kicked against either. Wines because it was a crazy decision and he would have expected it was his own free. Farrell, although the free was clearly there, it did seem initially that the ump hadn’t called it. Watching the replay, the commentators interpreted the same “ball up” call when the whistle was first blown.

Great summary

Can we add the calling of play on as soon as we received the ball-Eg DBJ, burgoyne
Both of these were free kicks from an "Out on the full" situation. Its play on the moment you cross the boundary line back into the field of play.

DBJ was a pretty harsh call on watching the replay because he was still in the field of play when he received the ball. And it wasn't actually clear what was happening with the down the field free kick. The umpire really should've made him go back behind his mark (ie out of the field of play).

Burgoyne was just his own damn fault for being completely unaware of what he was doing. He received the ball out of play, but then just wandered over the line back into the field of play before he was ready to take his kick. That was just plain stupidity. This is something our players do a lot with out on the full kicks. They just wander sideways back into play while looking for where they want to kick. Often still too close to the man on the mark, and not even ready to actually make the disposal.

The other shithouse thing the umpires let go was whenever there was a stacks on the mill pack, North players were allowed to grab our players and throw them off the pack with impunity. This sort of one-sided crapwent on all game.

Maybe but the play on calls weren’t nearly as quick for north players.

I could have sworn that Georgiades was called to play on from the boundary line when he was lining up for a set shot and hadn't started moving yet.
Yep he was 55m from goal, maybe 2 or 3 minutes left, said he was going have a shot and the umpire said you are too far out, called play on and he was out of bounds when called to play on.
