The call would have been made to AFL House to make sure Hawthorn is still a live contender for the finals race when they play Adelaide in two weeks...which they wouldn’t have been if we had won and they were 4 points adrift going into their bye.

Can you imagine the shit ratings the Bulldogs and St Kilda games would get if Hawthorn was out of the race as well?

Now you’ve got Hawthorn, Adelaide, Port and GWS all in that chasing group and “exciting matches” every weekend = high ratings.

i get sick of hearing that umpires dont influence the result and that we should win regardless of shit umpiring.

Yes we played shit.. but had the umpiring been fair instead of corrupt we would have won the game

4 goals from free kicks with 2 from rubbish 50 metre penalties that took them to easy goal scoring range

Had the game been officiated fairly we would have been an ugly 2-4 goal winner

Yeah the flip side of the argument that you should win regardless is that Hawthorn played far better and with more discipline, yet with all of that....they only won by 3 pts on the back of blatant gifts.

In a game with so much interpretation the problem is that bias, conscious or unconscious, can be delivered by paying most of the 50/50 ones to just one team.

The umpires no doubt try to influence the result, but the aim is to be so good that the effect of the umpires' influence is negligible.

In any sporting competition, professional or otherwise, this is an indictment.

He's been umpiring since 2003, over 300 games, so he has got us in good years and bad and the early years he couldn't dominate the other 2 umpires like he has the last 5 years or so.

no way can it be a coincidence, we need to be vey publicly complaining about this. Imagine what Chris Scott would do ! Normally don't like him, but thats what we need from PAFC at the moment, some Chris Scott inspired complaining.

We need a James Hird bagging Scott McLaren on the Footy Show in April 2004 type moment re Nicholls and probably others. Essendon did lose to the Saints by 34 pts.

Hird got a $20,000 fine for that outburst. But it was his game 2 days later that proved the umpires are vindictive little shits. He was BOG in this game against the WCE and his last quarter was incredible and he won the game for the bombers over the eagles who won by 6 pts 137 v 131. He had better stats than Ben Cousins who got 2 brownlow votes and Judd who got 1 but didnt get a vote. Lloyd kicked 8 so he was going to poll well but Hird was a better player all night who feed Lloyd plenty of times.
