It is farked. The umps totally control the game and the whistle starts from the first bounce. They are killing what once was the most exciting game to watch in the world.
If corruption is a disease, transparency is a central part of its treatment.” — Kofi Annan
The afl have done everything in their power to silence critics of umpires including cracking down on disent. The result is the umps can, if they choose to, manipulate game results with impunity. there appears to be absolutely no oversight or accountability for their decisions. The evidence as already highlighted in this thread with the free kick differential would suggest that the great majority of afl umpires simply have a subconscious bias against Richmond. As a paid member I would like to know -What are the club doing about it?

Free money and hookers for all
bender GIF
I spent my fortune on booze, cocaine and hookers and wasted the rest.

Pretty sure free kick stats been around for ever. The free kick stats from RFC been making news too. Mick Molloy put the stats to Laura.. a few years back. On Front Bar ~ not the forum to analyse maybe.

Sport is open to corruption. Match fixing. So far ~ one case of an ump and Brownlow voting corruption.

The local game of AFL doesn't seem have betting by Indian bookmakers. You can't bet on free kicks. The game is adjudicated poorly, unevenly. I'd've hoped the wage the umps are on $150k? is a disincentive. I'd've hoped the salary head office is on $5 million? is a disincentive.

I have no explanation rules with 50 shades of grey interpretation. Hopper gets pinged for HTB. ~ I noticed that they are giving players less time to get rid of the ball.
The Swans got the rough end of the pineapple last weekend with a 9 - 27 free kick count.
Everyone’s an ump and only they correctly interpret rules they probably haven’t even read.
Complaining about it doesn’t seem to change anything though.

Molloy also asked razor ray on front bar why the umps were biased against Richmond. He said “well you won three flags”

Richmond from 2017 rankings Free Kicks for(so opposition infringements v Tigers)

2025 = 18th average free kicks for
2024 = 18th
2023 = 18th
2022 = 17th within an ace of 18th
2021 = 18th
2020 = 15th
2019 = 12th
2018 = 18th
2017 = 10th

4 of the last 5 years Richmond is 18th for free kicks for, and the other of those years they were 17th, within an ace of 18th.

5 of the last 9 years 18th

+

1 x 17th
1 x 15th
1 x 12th
1 x 10th

Richmond Free kicks against from 2017:

2017 1st in the AFL for average free kicks against
2018 2nd, within an ace of 1st
2019 8th
2020 1st
2021 1st
2022 1st
2023 7th
2024 6th
2025 7th

So 18 readings there for frees for and against.

Richmond has the worst in the AFL 9 of the 18 times.

2nd worst twice both within an ace of worst.

And not one single season from 9 has Richmond been in the top half of the table for either frees for or frees against.

Is this just going to roll on endlessly or what? We have the worst average per season for either free kicks for or free kicks against as often as the other 17 clubs put together for 9 seasons now. How could the AFL seriously expect us to believe a single team can go 9 consecutive seasons without finishing in the top half of the table for either free kicks for OR free kicks against?

To put this in some sort of statistical context, the chances of a team finishing in the top half of the ladder for free kicks should be the same as the chances of producing a head when tossing a coin. The chances of tossing 18 consecutive heads(or tails) are 1 in 262,144.

But the statistical anomaly of our free kick ranking results is worse than that, because we are not merely getting free kick results that are the average of teams who finish in the bottom half of the free kick ladder. Our results are heavily skewed towards the lowest part of the bottom half.

Our average position for free kicks for is ranked 16th. Our average position for free kicks against is ranked roughly 15th best. The odds of that happening without heavy bias are way, way higher than the odds of 18 consecutive heads when flipping a coin. It is absolutely staggering that Richmond in 2025 is once again the least infringed team in the AFL.

Umpiring against us hasn't been as bad since we've been down the bottom.

Go figure

Yet we received the least free kicks per game in 2024 and the least per game in 2025...
umpiring is the difference between bottom 4 and top 4

umpirewood would finish bottom 4 with our umpiring

The AFL controls who they want to win the flag with umpiring instructions. They were ok for us to win it in 2017, we defied the odds in 2019 and 2020 and they absolutely DO NOT want us to win another one any time soon.

yep for any future flag we will have to defy the odds as in the cfls eyes its too soon and they hate us
