Just got the mag in the mail and flipped to Uncle Rick's column to check out the vision for 2008 and the apology for 2007. What did I find ? Pretty much zippo of both. All full praise for Cookie, Parks and Cuddley, record breaking membership but no explaination on why 2007 was such a disaster and what to expect in 2008. What are the factors he refers to?

What apology should he give, I'm sorry people overated our chances at the beginning of the year.
The list isn't so overwhelmingly strong as to overcome what went wrong this year and still make it. Contrary to a few opinions around here.

This is just typical of Rick Hart's attitude.

He thinks he is some kind of feudal lord who can bluff the ignorant members (serfs) with his predictable spin.

Hart is everything that is wrong with FFC.

I had it on good authority that Hart was actually going to stand down as Chairman at the end of the season - Unfourtunately this does not seem to be the case.

IP tells us to wait until the annual review - I can tell what Rick's appraisal of this season will be: "A big tick".

Another year under Hart - Another year wasted for FFC.

Sorry GJ but unless Rick Hart pulled the purple jumper on during the year and played a few games you cant blame him for poor performances. If Rick Hart was going to give this season "a big tick" CC would still be coaching Fremantle. How many times do we need to hear the Rick Hart bashing from you?? Im sure Belnakor will be on later to back you up though...

ffs Pistol, wake up mate.

Of course Rick cant be blamed for on field performances - but he is the guy who should be giving the players a rocket for their shit house season.

Hart needs to come out and say: "We have too many overpaid underperforming players at this club. The 2007 season was unacceptable...".

Hart needs to start and crack the whip.

Instead we just get a bunch of flowery sentiments in the latest quarterly review.

Hart is not up to the job.

Seriously it is not Ricks job in any way, shape or form to be motivating the players. There are plenty of well qualified and well paid people to do that.

Your obsession with the Rick Hart is just weird. What happened, did you get shafted in a deal for some white goods? Does your dad own a Retravision? Whats the real story here?

Why dont you wait until the year book comes out, you never know GJ. Something might be in there about our pickups in the trade/draft period.... and possibly about the season. It is only the quarterly magazine so just wait and see before you jump down Harts throat

I love how people say that we over-performed in 2003 and 2006. The reality is that we played to our potential those two years, every other season this decade apart from 2002 we have played well below potential.

Hopefully when supporters stop accepting mediocrity we will actually win something. Clubs like Port Adelaide and West Coast expect success. After so many years of being let down I think many Fremantle supporters have lowered the bar to avoid disappointment.

Apparently, with an attitude like that you'd better dump your membership and leave Dom

WTF is accepting mediocrity? the supporters cant get in the rooms and ream out underperforming players or in fact do anything at about it. It's just a stupid thing that gets repeated ad nauseum.
The reality is that succeeding in this game takes a lot of things and we haven't had the right combination of players , off field support and the bit of luck with injuries suspensions that it takes.
I hate the fact the we aren't the dominating force we should be. But I dont think whinging and making unfounded accusations about off field staff is going to change anything. The team lacks a little but it seems that simple truth is too hard for some to take.

Statements like "I'm sorry people overated our chances at the beginning of the year." implies that you think our results this season were acceptable. We had a top four list this year, it's understandable that many supporters are angry.

This is where we differ. I think the list has serious deficiencies. The hype pumping us up before the season was in my opinion overrating the side. Add to that the things that went pear shaped for us this year and you will see why I’m not too surprised about where we finished. Unhappy and bitterly disappointed Yes, Surprised, angry No

Angry or dissappointed is one thing, drawing a direct correlation between Hart's influence and everything that has gone badly this year is another.

Looking for scapegoats is a shortcut to actually analysizing why an outcome eventuated.

Fair enough. I would have thought that winning 9 in a row, being only a couple of goals down at 3/4 time in an away prelim, and the addition of Solomon and Tarrant were indications that we had a very, very good list this year.

What do you expect from season 2008?

I agree with that, Rick Hart has very little power and certainly shouldn't be blamed for our shortcomings this year.

What you consider scapegoating others might consider warranted criticism. It's hard to analyse without criticising.

Development of a midfield(and style of play) that can compete with Cats, Power, Hawks, colonwood , Lions

For example the geelong midfield has been about 4 yrs in the making likewise the slime took 2002-2004 to get it right.
But that said the Power midfield with the addition of Rodan(what a story),a fit salopek,a more experienced pearce and a wiser use of Chad Cornes(Kane Cornes, cassisi and Shaun Burgoyne well established) has come from no where to play off in a GF.

With a creative use of Barru and Johnno may be alternating half back and wing, using in Pav in a cameo role at centre boucedowns, Josh given the tagging role, Bryon, Foster, ibbo & Dunn given the confidence to go for it who knows - all will be revealed RD 1 2008

I hope you're not suggesting it will take 4 years from next year for our 2008 group to develop together? Schammer, Peake and Crowley were all drafted in 2002 or 2003, they're not kids anymore.

I did say dom that rolls royce midfields take time to develop. Bartell, Kelly and ablett(gary) all taken in 2002. premiership in 2007.

I did also say that Power added to their midfield and went from 12th to GF. Obviously needs more work but they have the foundations.

Williams gave the youngsters ago in 2006 and backed them in 2007. I heard they thought they would finish 9th in 2007. He has fast tracked the club by atleast wo yrs by backing youth- and fast ones at that.

If Geelong are the new yard stick how close are we to them? On yesterdays performance it's light years. I listed what I saw yesterday Skills, Team Work, Will, Need to win and then asked the question, "Is Freo Up that Standard?" and on our 2007 performance it was a big "NO". As for Uncle Rick, I like the bloke. Made some tough calls during 2007 and stood by them. I just think his message in the mag lacked substance.

From memory Connolly left during the year probably due to some cracking of a whip. PAVLICH STAYED on after events and a carp season. Harvey was signed and allowed to do it his way. Someone is listening to the right people.

We made a pre-lim the year before.

There are some positives with Ricky boy. He has faultered in the past only by making announcements which clearly were wrong, but I beleive he has not made the same mistakes again, and I have positive outlook with Harvey as coach and some cleaning up of the inadequate players and discipline.

One of the issues is "How many times do you put up with being bitten by your dog"? I have great expectations from Mark Harvey but I also had great expectations from Drumm and Cuddley.
