His appointment was announced with great fanfare and now he is gone without coaching a single game. Maybe an internal promotion (his son is now playing at OMs and goes alright too) Nash has been involved with Sandy Dragons for many years so perhaps he has gone back there. I believe he came to OMs in a ‘package’ with his old mate Wayne Oswald who spent last year at Scotch. With all their boom recruits maybe they can no longer afford him!!

Someone from OMs care to comment?

OS played Vermont and won quite comfortably, by about 4 or 5 goals. Uni BLues had an intra club game so no reports from that.
Reasonably sure lots of clubs first games are this week...

St Bedes are playing Old Mentonians this Wednesday evening, should be an interesting match-up as I hear Old Mentonians are expected to be the best team in South 1 this year.

Was a very scrappy game at keysborough, st bedes missing a few players because of work or uni. Tim Wigney, ex st bedes boy dominated through the midfield, going to be a big loss for the tigers. Will be interesting to see round 1 against beaumaris.

Who has praccy matches this weekend?

OM defeated OT by 3 - 5 goals. Were not convincing at all and looks like OM will be botton dwellers in premier division again this year.

From the Old Xavs web site.

Under 19's

With Round 1 around the corner, the Under 19’s headed up the Hume towards lovely Murchison to face Uni Blacks. The signs were good early with Kaldawi winning the first few taps and midfielders in Denton, Pepperell & Harangozo all reaping the rewards. However, after dominating the first 10 minutes of the game, the new brigade of youngsters found themselves a goal down as Uni hit the scoreboard with the first major. This was to be the last time Uni would capitalize on any scoring opportunity as the Xavs woke up after that.

Dan Iacuone playing deep at Full Forward was looking dangerous and through his quick turn of foot was able to get away from his opponent and gifted Jack Bergin with the Xavs first goal. Andrew Pasceri had his first hit-out in the Claret & Stout colours and together with Steve Berengo showed plenty of pressure and class across the half forward line. At quarter time the Xavs held a comfortable 4 goal lead.

The 2nd quarter was similar to the first as the Xavs pressure on the ball carrier and discipline to run both ways saw us bolt out to a 7 goal lead. Jenkinson was shifted from CHF to FF and he seemed more comfortable closer to goal where he slotted two majors for the quarter. Ben Plant was also good in the 2nd quarter playing forward as he helped channel a lot of the play through his CHF area.

At the main break it was 8 goals to 1 and the aim was to keep the opposition to that score at three quarter time. The new Xavs started to move the ball really well in the 3rd quarter with a couple of very attractive passages of end to end play. Ash Sorrenti moved up the ground a bit more in the 3rd quarter and his kicking efficiency was great as he looked to switch the ball inboard and take the ball through the corridor at every opportunity. Mitch Skene’s toughness at the contest and good decision making had a real impact too. At three quarter time we had managed to keep them to the solitary goal whilst extending our lead 60 points.

Going into the last quarter, the boys were set with another target of running out the game, extending the lead and keeping the Varsity to 1 scoring shot. If it wasn’t for some last ditch efforts from Tim Dillon and Jack Franklyn, who were solid in defence all day, we may have conceded another. All in all, it was a great hit-out for the boys on a big oval at Murchison which was once again in sensational condition.

With Round 1 against OM’s around the corner, the Under’s will play an intra-club game next Saturday at Toorak Park. It will be a great opportunity for the boys to impress for selection prior to season’s kick-off in two weeks time.

Old Xavs: 5-8-96 def. Uni Blacks: 1-0-6

I think the score has been posted wrong on the Xavs site.

De La beat Uni Blues by about 2 – 3 goals. Pretty high standard game. Both clubs had quite a few of their 19s in the seniors or otherwise not playing. From talking to some Uni Blues people they are very up beat about their squad this year.

My mail Rooster told me that it was 9 point win to De La after they kicked the last goal of the game. A good hit out by both teams.

Pretty impressive work by Xavs at this time of year. To keep a side to one goal for the day is almost unheard of in Premier Section.

Your mail was probably right but not a bad guess on my part. Both sides will be thereabouts this year. Obviously impossible for De La to replicate the dominance of the last 2 years. The 2010 version were quite literally unbeatable. Regarding Xavs and Blacks – Agree an impressive effort by Xavs but can't read too much into practice match form. Remember Blacks were very ordinary last year and only avoided relegation when OC voluntarily took the drop.

OS beat East Ringwood quite comfortably (about 5 goals). Play OCarey next week. Apparently OM's are really struggling for numbers..??
Despite the De La v Uni Blues game only being a practice game, Uni Blues could be a real improver from last year. As always Xavs will be strong, cant wait till R1!

I reckon Rooster could be the man for the odds. He knows more about 19's Premier than anyone else ;)

Thanks for the vote of confidence RFS. Don’t know about odds but I will stick my neck out and give a finishing order after the home and away.
(I would like an opportunity to review after 5/6 rounds). With big list changes every year it is very difficult to make pre-season predications for the U19s. Most teams are an unknown quantity and pre-season form counts for little. Been a while since 2 district clubs featured in 19 Premier. Good to see. Expect this will be very even competition this year.

OX Strongest club in the comp but perennial bridesmaid in the 19s. Have lost 3 recent GF’s to De La and will be desperate to match the success of their seniors. Another strong group and better depth than last year should see them near the top.

UNI BLUES. They are very optimistic about their list this year. Heaps of talent at their disposal and if they gel early then look out. A definite threat

DE LA SALLE Powerhouse of 19s football. The last 5 GF’s in a row for 4 premierships. Some good judges rate the undefeated 2010 team as the best 19s team ever. The reign must end eventually but if they make the 4 will be a big threat. Another flag is a real possibility.

BEAUMARIS Many of the 2010 team that played finals is eligible again. Some very good players in that lot and they will be right amongst it again. They are very confident of making a big impression this year.

ST BEDES Underachieved for the talent they had last year. This group is better than 2010 with some very good additions. Believe they have recruited well and seem to benefit more than others as Sandy Dragons send a few their way. While topping up the talent this can also cause some friction with so many changes from week to week

SCOTCH A club desperate for success at any level. Regular finals appearances in recent years and ready to take the next step. Always seem to recruit well and it wouldn’t surprise to see them push for a top 4 spot.

FITZROY Apologies if this seems disrespectful but I just don’t know anything about them. The 2010 version must have been pretty good to knock off what was reportedly an extremely good Werribee side twice in the finals. My prediction is based only on recent North Division sides struggling when coming up to Premier with the last couple of teams going straight back down again. Can someone from the Roys give us some insight please?

UNI BLACKS Just a guess really. Believe they were decimated by injury last year that really tested their depth. A good result for the club to stay in Premier otherwise all the talent might have deserted them for the Blues. The mail is they have recruited well.

OLD BRIGHTON I hear that quite a few of last years South 1 premiership side are eligible again but that numbers are an issue. Have some real talent but depth might be a problem.

OLD MELBOURNE Some very big pre-season wraps on them last year - mostly from their own, but they never really got going. Relied heavily on 2 or 3 players. Will post some wins but I don’t expect they will threaten.
