i have been os for the last couple of weeks and have missed the last two practice games. from what i have read we showed some improvement against the roos and eagles. sounds like malcolm tried most of the young blokes in the eagles game with wittison being the stand out. any comments?

There seems to be some good signs by the sounds of it. Pity out of the three games so far this is the only one that has not been televised here. Also the one I would have most liked to see.
I was hoping that the saints might have had a practice match in hobart this week. But it seems that the AFL have snubbed hobart so far this year. Hope we get a practice match down here b4 the season starts

STL,

There was some great signs from the younger players during the Ansett Cup.

Brett Moyle was best on ground against the eagles and looks to have started the season the way he finished off 2000. Beetham and Hayes both had very good series and could both take the next step. Koschitzke already has seemed to bulk up since being drafted. He took a few nice marks and has a good footy brain. I reckon he will play senior football sooner rather than later. And when you consider Riewoldt was rated higher than Kosi, we have every right to be excited about our future.

We played three rookies listed players against the eagles and all acquitted themselves quite well. Wittison probably excited me the most, mainly because of his height and athleticism. A future CHF/CHB or even ruckman. Stevie Milne was his usual exciting self. Kicked a great goal and picked up 15 possessions. He could be the answer to our much needed small, goal kicking type player. Chris Oliver in his first game for the club is another ruckman/key position player who looked to have the goods. Obviously all will start of with Springvale. With two spots available on our senior list, all have the incentive needed.

The first quarter of 9 straight goals was pretty exciting. The crowd gave them a standing ovation which was deserved. The thing I am most happy about is that the skill level increased dramatically and that Harvey, Hall, Loewe, Lawrence, Gehrig and Hudghton are still to return.

Welcome aboard too TasSaint. Good to get a few more saints fans around here.

Looking at the List we have 11 players under 20.
Namely

Hayes
Riewoldt
Davis
Beetham
Begley
Koschitzke
Blake
Baker
Wulf
Schwarze
Moyle

It will be interesting to see how they develop under Malcoms coaching?

I am looking forward to seeing Riewoldt on the track.

thanks for that,

11 players under 20 with all of them likely to play senior footy this year augers well for the future. hopefully they thrive under the coaching of blight and can make a valuable contribution this year. our improvement will only be realised if these players continue to improve. what is exciting is most of these blokes have already played senior footy and shown that they have talent. last year moyle was the most improved of the younger players, he should step up to be a consistent performer this year. hayes is ready to show us his best after two seasons, beetham looks the goods he knows how to get the footy, these 3 are my tips to be the young stars for this year. Reiwoldt and Kosi are both tall and athletic, if they are half as good as what they are touted to be we are in for some exciting times.
